I used to only be able to see the creepy Yoshi face, but now that I'm looking at it more closely, it looks like a decorative plate. I think the structure itself is a fireplace. Some of the "hinges" on the side of the object could just be small structures that hold the plate in place. Alternatively, it is just a decorative "seal" of sorts, which would make sense with the "tendril"-like plumes coming out of the bottom. Still hard to tell, though. Definitely looks creepy at first glance.

If that's true, what is the design of the seal or decorative plate? Whether it's a plate, seal, drawer, etc., the design isn't making sense to me. It isn't an obvious ornate design, it's asymmetrical and strange.
This hits different when you realize Yoshi was originally intended to play a more prominent role in Super Mario 64 before being relegated to a postgame cameo. There exists unused 2D sprites of a bouncing Yoshi egg and Miyamoto has said in interviews that Yoshi was incorporated into the earliest design documents, all the way back in 1993. That is to say the image behind the cake looks like a front facing Yoshi.

Agreed. Looks like either Yoshi or a caricature/different design for Yoshi. If anyone sees Mario they need their eyes checked.

Watching this I realized the thing was a mirror! The framing, the metallic appearance and even the reflection of something, but we don’t know what it’s reflected, maybe Peach, Mario, maybe even Yoshi! Possibly hinting at 120 stars to talk to Yoshi!
But it doesn’t really look like a mirror. Why would nothing else be reflected, and yoshi at that angle in the air behind the camera?

I recently 100%ed SM64DS for the hundredth time, and was reminded of this mystery after first hearing about it from the iceberg (I never noticed it before then.) I personally find it to be the most intriguing mystery of SM64 because Nintendo thought it was a necessary-enough detail to bring back in DS, despite the original not being clear on what it actually is.
Like most suggest, I would agree that it's probably Yoshi (with his pre-Yoshi's Story, droopy-eyed design), but, after seeing your combined image, I could kind of see it being Mario, too.
Top of Yoshi's nose = lip of Mario's cap
Yoshi's nostrils = Mario's pupils
Yoshi's cheeks = Mario's ears
Sides and bottom of Yoshi's nose = Mario's sideburns and mustache
The only problem with this idea is Yoshi's pupils, which would have no analogous feature on Mario. Either way, it's definitely a strange yet thought-provoking mystery that may never be answered.

It always looked like a koopa’s head to me, where the upper part of the handle is like a mouth, the large main oval part with a dot near the middle on the right is a nose with a nostril (where the other nostril is covered by the star,) and the two areas up too are its eyes, with the dots being it’s pupils.

That could be something like a door handle of a glass cupboard door of the oven core, I don't know, I just guessing the almost completely obvious question!
I think a more pressing question might be why the DS version looks like a tea party in Silent Hill. O.O
google 'baroque style'. Notice how frames of paintings, or mirrors, have this elaborate designs? Almost CASTLE like. that's probably what that is. Look at the pillars and structure where this "face" is on, what a coincidence, it's baroque. It's symmetrical, like a face, because that's how this architecture works. Again, google baroque style and you'll see the resemblance.
This only looks like a face, because of confirmation bias. when we are told there's a face, the brain immediately looks for one. the dark spots that would be interpreted as "pupils", reinforce that face feeling a lot.

I used to think its was bowsers son Jr. but now that I look closer at it it kind of looks like a person more so a toddler raising both arms in the air and the thing on the top look kind of if you look hard enough a crown I think its maybe a baby peach picture. and what I think is on the shelf is like roses but the stem was cut off, but that's what I think I don't think its that but I don't know

Maybe it's just a picture of yoshi and they just didn't know how to draw a yoshi from the front without it looking weird.

I see Frog Mario from Mario Bros 3. The two “eyes” at the top that many think are Yoshi’s eyes are the frog eyes from the suit and below it, is Mario’s eyes and face smiling with his mustache. Just my interpretation.

I have a dark theory on what it could be, in sm64 after getting on the roof you meet yoshi and he gives you 120 stars and then jumps of the castle likely killing himself. The picture on the cabinet is a memorial/carving of yoshi to show honor to him.

Jajaja, saying yoshi would kill himself jumping from a high place is the most stup1d theory. He is like inmune to fall damage in most of the games, this theory would have some sense if yoshi did other things.
