- In Super Mario 64 there is a creepy hidden secret face in the background of the ending screen. I spoke about it in my 50 Unsolved Mysteries in Super Mario 64 iceberg video. This time I'm going to go into more detail about this mystery.

@@Y2Jerms Yeah haven't streamed in awhile planning to get back into it sometime soon. So follow if you want for whenever I do. Thanks for watching.
@@ABrandonToThePast kool! I hope to see more. I've been a fan for awhile now. It'd be kool to see what you've been up to and how you've been or other random videos and gaming stuff.
It could be a painting of a KING
The higher part is a crown
The curve culd be a beard
Looks like mario with a crown
For some reason, despite his debut occurring six years later, Bowser Jr. is who/what I most prominently see in the background. Other than the lack of a right eye, I see his beady little left eye, his left nostril, and a smile that more closely follows the curvature of his face than any other character's.
Me too!!!!!
That is what I see too. But it also looks like the koopas from the mario bros super show.
It actually looks more like Koopa Kid from Mario Party, which would make sense considering the year this game came out, compared to Bowser Jr, who we wouldn't see for a while.
@@calebdonaldson8770 oh yeah your right!
i always thought it was yoshi
It just occurred to me.
That’s not a mouth. That’s a handle.
It’s just a drawer.
you're goddamn right.
Oooh I see it now ! It was there all along and we started seeing creepy faces instead ^^' Someone get this comment pinned.
That makes sense but it be a HUMONGOUS handle...or a miniscule cake
It really does look like a handle now lol. Just weird it has a strange design unlike any other decoration in the game.
That, or a mushroom
chances are it’s probably just a design on top of the mantle. it’s probably a mushroom or something
Actually, by looking the design of the 1-Up mushrooms in the game makes it clearer that might be just some sort of mushroom carving in a wooden plate
huh, yeah, I'm kinda seeing it
yeah it looks like a mushroom in a bowl
Its either coopa troopa or yoshi
Ummm it...looks like Mario's head in a frog suit in a bowl actually
Pretty cool how these old games still have mysteries
I used to think the outline at 3:43 was the top of a grandfather clock (maybe the design was the same as the clock in peaches castle) but the boxy shape being a fire place mantle makes more sense with the perspective
Hope you’re doing well Brandon! Glad to see more frequent uploads as of late.
I personally see a Mario. The mouth being his mustache, the nose being his eyes, and his “eye” being the tip of his “M” on his cap. Only issue is that his nose is a little beefy.
I don't find it hard to believe that there would be depictions of mario with an unusually large nose. My real question is why the "M" on his cap would look like that.
@@mikumika3819 I think it’s angled funny, like he is looking up or something. Then again why he would be looking up is a weird choice.
Yeah, I thought it was Mario.
It's a drawer lol
When I was little, this genuinely scared the shit out of me. I never put together the yoshi thing as it’s “nose” looked like the snout of a pig and I thought it was a pig monster for the longest time. Now looking at it long enough I can see that’s the handle of a dresser or a decorative plate atop some sort of furniture but it still gives me chills.
I never wanted to peer into a fish tank/window peering thing after ff7 and the jenova thingy
Also made me scared to death of the dark
Something about those low poly enemies and the way you can't see them in their entirety is so Eldritch and I hated it
It wasn't even funny, I was horrified
The DS version seems to me to look a lot like the weird 3D planet shown on the SM64 box art. The asymmetry suggests to me it can’t be a face, and the “mouth” looks like the edge of one of the regions of that planet thing. It’s a bit of a stretch, sure, but hanging a map above a mantle makes sense
Hello Brandon,
The Cake is sitting atop a dinning room table, cups of tea surround the cake. The likelyhood of the image behind being a fancy dinning room chair with some wood engravings on the back support section of the chair is very high... that's my theory anyway... A GAME THEORY!!
all this has taught is how much I want to see an official beta Mario 64
I kinda see an engraving of a mushroom above the fireplace. The dip along the bottom of the shroom is empty space to give it a circular frame, while the spots on the mushroom are engraved into the top, forming those weird “eye” spots. You can also kinda see one of the eyes on the middle right of the engraving (guessing that’s what people saw as a nostril if they thought it was Yoshi)
If you're beginning to show creepy content, I'm really looking forward to see what you have in store for all of us on Halloween! 🎃 😄
It looks like a fancy door handle design, one of those knockers.
2:05 dramatic sound effect XD
It actually jumpscared me 💀
Honestly I can’t say it’s a face myself. I only think the ending screen is slightly eerie is because of the lighting of the whole thing
It possibly could be Mario's face to the side, like facing at an angle, the bottom right kinda looks like Mario's mustache
Glad to look back at this Mario mystery and see if we can find anything new to uncover the truth. Thanks for making this video!
before i thought it was a painting, but after seeing the DS version, i think its either just light or shadow hitting the wall (maybe coming from the star)
It looks like a carving to me, like someone carved Bowser's face into the wood (which given the fact he took over the castle, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case)
And maybe when they made the end screen for the DS version they weren't too worried about giving it any extra detail, making it appear to be less face like
I'm happy to see some of your longer form video making a comeback.
Judging by the face being the exact same color as the wall behind it and the lack of much depth or clarity, I think it might actually be some kind of shallow sculpting or engraving. That still doesn't answer what it's supposed to be *of,* but Yoshi might make the most sense in that case. He was not only a helpful ally but sort of a newly discovered species in SMW, so it'd make sense for an artistic depiction of him to exist in the castle.
I know that this is old, but its actually just a drawer. The mouth is a handle and the nose is kinda like a screw or something idk
You are one of my heroes Brandon! Stay bold king! 👊🏻
I loved that you've been uploading again, I really missed this channel. Been subbed for a long while
It’s clearly Bowser Junior’s face!
Omg yes the face has eyebrows
Could be a painting of a globe, the round world was prominently shown in Mario 64 promo art and it had mountains and oceans on it so maybe the weird “eyes” and “mouth” are just parts sticking out of the round globe. Also it looks like the only light in the room is coming from the candle which is a little creepy but I’ve always thought of it as a birthday cake (turning off the lights and blowing out the candle)
Honestly I think it may be Mario , due to the star , floating above the cake.
because in the ending for Mario 64 DS , we see four stars swirling around on the bottom screen , representing the four characters.
So the star in the Original is most likely meant to represent Mario , meaning it would make sense if the painting did to.
I remember I used to watch you everyday as a kid but stopped when your uploads became less frequent. Awesome to see you're still uploading, guess I better get to catching up haha
I was lying in bed trying to go to sleep and suddenly I remembered your channel
Glad to see you’re still making amazing content ❤️
You know its gonna be a good day when brandon uploads
So happy you’re uploading frequently
Happy to see more videos Brandon! Your doing great!
Missed you Brandon!
Some older leather chairs have buttons on them for decoration. So maybe the eye is like that or something, the smile does kind of look like arm rests. And love to see you upload again man the “why is link such a butt” popped in my head the other day too lol
Omg I get so excited when you upload .. do the super Mario 64 ice-burg
Fantastic to see you return to uploading!
This is a just for fun guess. That last one, the face reminds me of Bowser Jr, like it was modeled in mario party 2 (that i know of).
Maybe it's some kind of foreshadowing of Bowser Jr 's upcoming role as main enemy in Mario Sunshine. Maybe that's exactly the moment he started plotting!
This is the first time in years that I've seen a video recommended by your channel. You played one of my Creepypasta based games years ago. I still make those types of games.
Hope all is well glad to see ur ok man
I got this video in my recommended and recognized your username, but I couldn't put my name on it until I clicked on your channel despite your voice triggering something in me. I remember being OBSESSED with your Pokemon videos when I was little, and I'm stunned to see that you're stil making content all these years later.
Bro i subscribed back in the “Genwunner” days with my old youtube account, i accidentally signed in on it and saw you were uploading again, glad ur back
Pretty sure it's just a drawer. take a closer look at the "mouth". it looks more like a handle than a actual mouth. someone in the comments pointed it out and now that I look at it more, it looks more like a normal drawer than a actual face
The face looks like a reflection of the cake, except in the mirror it’s on a plate, there’s nothing surrounding it, and I have no idea what the eyes could be. Real sussy stuff
Holy crap, dude. I didn't know you came back.
I used to watch your videos all the time.
Here's a new fan back.
Great video as always bro
First, also, what I think that face is a Yoshi and the reason why it’s even there is because it just wanted some cake
Omg, abrandontothepast finally hearted one of my comment. I been of fan you since I was 9
this is literally the fnaf 3 springtrap "i'm still here" teaser all over again
I like to think it's Bowser stuck in a painting somehow
Or it could be some kind of painting or carving that have gone old and withered, and due to it, that’s why it looks like that.
@@yapyapthedestroyer2562 that's why I said "I like to think that". Obviously nobody knows what it is, so we all speculate what we think it is. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind, I'm just saying what I see.
@@mistermisfortune13 ok. I mean hey, it could be anything, for all we know it could be the secret to Mario lore, a hint to Luigi’s mansion bowser painting before the boss, or just a troll the developers made for us. Either way, its booser.
I personally beileve this whole shot takes place infront of the clock at tiktok clock. Sure, its pretty barren of detail in the actual game, but this could be what the clock is actually meant to look like. (the pre rendered images typically have alot higher fidelity models than on the actual hardware.) The face probably looks like a creepy character because of the compression, but if it was clearer I would imagine that it would reveal itself to be the face of a clock. this is just speculation, but probably the most solid awnser I have ran across my brain.
good to hear you again king
Yo!!!! Hey buddy, hope everthing is going well. Glad to see another vid.
i love the n64 skyboxes, atmosferes etc
I think it's either a dresser handle or a fancy oval mirror
I love this context
Him : try to know who is this guy in the background
Me : *M A S H A*
You good Brandon?
I’ve been watching you since I was 10. Love to see your still making videos. Hope Your doing well and I can’t wait to see you make videos of the next gen Pokémon
Yeah, this guy was my introduction to youtube, and now i'm a highschooler and i'm i'm so happy hes back to youtube
That's obviously a front-looking Mario with a very big nose.
It could be the late king toadstool
I think that the face is actually just a grandfather clock (you know, the big wooden clocks that are like big ben ) with the nose being a part of the hand, the eyes being numbers, and the smile being decoration, or possibly more numbers
Honestly wish Nintendo was easier to contact, they could solve this once and for all.
Problem isn't just about contacting someone who'd know though, the specific team at Nintendo who worked on Mario 64 got such horrible burnout, they supposedly never worked on video games again after that. There's a good chance they'd know, but almost no chance at all they'd want to talk about it.
maybe theses are some flowers in a pot, or a mirror reflecting the table with the cake.
it may also be tick tock clock painting. idk
To me, it looks like some sort of clock.
Hell yea, i think it was my comment that got all the discussion started in the og vid
Definitely is yoshi's face
I think the so called fireplace looks like a chair, And the rectangular bit with the "face" is a pillow on the chair leaned against the back of the chair. Thats what it looks like to me..
What do you think the face would be then? Just a design on the pillow?
It could be a mushroom as they have eyes in the mushroom kingdom and have red and white spots. They might have a particular texture when in 3d model scale.
Its Mario's traumatized realization that he will be saving peach for the next 25 years
4:54 Idk why you don't see the other eye, for some reason I see it. To me it looks definitely like Yoshi.
Its Yoshi after committing suicide, jumping off the rooftop
If you look to the left or right the screen you can see someone who usually is in another castle on the left and a cut feature on the right
By this day I still believe that this is tick tock clock but with mario instead of peach
your funny and smart and your an awesome person
love your videos brandon and stay GOLD
Huh, odd, i was just researching this like 3 days ago!
Secret fourth floor... cake..... Door... If it was finished with a exitable door from the floor to the 3rd floor then when you jump off the balcony then you may fall off the castle the pipe to the maze maybe that box would have a star in it, the maze would be bigger for 7 stars and the game would have 1 more course and the game having 3 more secret castle stars to unlock the ending of mario 64
I think it might actually be the globe/world image from the background of the box for Super Mario 64! It seems to match up quite well to me
Guess who's back. Back again
Looks like a painting of a face, man. Very plausibly above a fireplace.
With further examination I can definitely see Mario’s head and maybe his face is just reflecting off something
It's a painting. Perhaps the Koopas waged war on the Yoshis and it is a painting of a Yoshi war hero. This could mean Nintendo intended to release a Super Mario World 3 (taking place between SMW and SMW2.) with a more war-like theme, maybe like SMW2 but with swarms of Koopas while protecting Mario.
Yoshi mural on the wall
What I think it is, is an old version of Mario. I feel you can clearly make out ears, an eye, and maybe sideburns. The streak across the bottom looks like a moustache. By the way, what you see as the nose I see as his left eye. His other eye is behind the star.
Had no idea it was there until I saw this video honestly.
It looks like a picture of mario.
Maybe it's a picture of Yoshi
Lol dude I feel like it's Halloween now.
I think its a warner for him in DS
Honestly, to me it looks like and alarm clock.
I originally thought it was some werid distorted Mario face. Never really saw Yoshi. I saw the "nostril" as the eye.
But now that I've seen the (slightly) higher res DS version, I think you're right--it's probably not a face at all. It's probably some decoration and our brains are doing what brains do and seeing a face.
IMO I think its is a painting of early concept art or maybe a picture one of the developers kids drew for yoshi or maybe a koopa that kind of made to look old an worn out like how treasure maps are portrayed in pirate movies. That's just what I think it is, what does everyone else think about it?
i can see where people could get the face but i see it more as one of the murals of peach that's outside the castle the part that people think is the nose part is her little chest emblem thing and what people see as the smile is really just her hands in that praying sort of pose
That's just Yoshi staring right into your soul.
Honey come here, Brandon uploaded new video
It’s yoshi . Look at those nose and mouth and even eyes it’s so obvious it’s him . His the main in DS .
woah new uploads
It’s creepy, until you realize it’s just a drawer.
It could actually be a fire place of yoshi’s head made of stone
It reminds me of the clock from Tick Tock Clock.
Its skin was peeled off of someone or something.
