    One thing I will say is that some of what happens at some bases are due to the surrounding area or town, others is due to either lack of moral, leadership, or a disagreement! It does happen on or near these bases! And some of the prevention should have started at the top with in the chain of command.

    I was stationed at Fort Hood for 2 years, probably while this was filmed and got out last year. I will say this vice video is VERY accurate. The culture and attitudes of soldiers is exactly as presented in this video.

    Hey don’t let these older folk tell you otherwise. As a recent veteran of the United States Marine Corps, this video was spot on. No one ever talks about this so someone as big as Vice covering it is good news. How anyone can watch this and still defend the institution is beyond me.

    I am a US Army veteran. I was in Fort Hood in 1971, more than half a century ago. I had later achieved the rank of SFC, E7. I suspect what is going on. I had seen problems like this before. Enlistment standards might have been reduced. In the past, during the Vietnam war, some judges gave prisoners a choice of prison or the military, meaning the Army. In addition, the judges had the prisoners' crime records wiped clean. Behavioral problems appear in places like Fort Hood because of combat soldiers, not elite airborne, not SF, and not technical soldiers. This also means, you will probably find similar problems at other Army bases that house combat soldiers. Fish around CZcams and you will likely find one or two.

    • @marktisdale7935
      @marktisdale7935 Před 18 dny +5

      @ytgeorgia Your views on the Army are very outdated, this crap happens with all types of soldiers. If you were to looks at different types of soldiers per capita, I would bet that the SF community is far worse than conventional forces. It is just a size of the type of soldiers, that is why the numbers look so bad. I was stationed with 4ID at Fort Hood from the beginning of 2009 until late 2010, then PCS'ed to Fort Campbell. The real problem is that there are a few bases in the Army that are "blackholes" ones you get assigned to them you can't get out of them. Fort Hood is one of them. You also have to remember that these soldiers were deploying every other year for over a decade, and the military doesn't care about the mental health of service members.

    These crimes arent bound by rank either, Ryan. The channel, Angry Cops, is always calling attention to all sorts of things, whether it's something cringy to downright criminal, or even the lighter side of things like Angry Meme Review. Rich is an Army drill sergeant and active police officer in upstate NY with an eye for being objective in dealing with all manner of things good n bad.
    To step back to my comment about crime at different rank, he made a video about 3 months ago featuring an Army officer who put a spycam in a dressing room. I'll just leave it at that.

    There is the UCMJ Article 32 process where a "hearing officer" conducts an investigation and prepares a report to the commander (aka Convening Authority), who has SOLE DISCRETION to refer the case to court martial. And, the Convening Authority also has the power to grant clemency after a court martial. Perhaps the commander/Convening Authority has too much judicial power.

My last duty station was Ft Lewis, to be renamed, Joint Base Lewis McCord ( JBLM ). A few years before I was forced out though my MEB. The hospital on post, "Madigan" had a situation. A LTC or maybe it was a COL was busted for screwing soldiers out of their disability percentage. He said the quiet part out loud to a news media group. There was a HUGE investigation which never went anywhere. The crap continued on. I was kept in two years ( roughly ) past my ETS date. Was almost forced to go to Afghanistan during my MEB! Congress Woman of Colorado intervened. This doesn't surprise me its still happening. The U-ASS needs a HARD RESTART!

Perhaps, perhaps we should do some of the induction interviews that the foreign legion do in France. Some are told they failed induction and will never be allowed to try again. The video made me believe that some mental questions they might ask are a general red flag for possible issues that could arise. Yes am guessing the SAs are not new and more spoken of. But, perhaps their interview system helps weed out some who might not be in close proximity to others with access to weapons and hand to hand training.
