    Heya thank you for the comment!
    Ive just had a listen, she got skills!
    You can tell theres a lot of passion in her singing and that she’s really connecting with what she’s singing, which is a big help. When people feel the song, theres a massive difference in performance.
    Thats the key, making it a performance rather than just singing. You can hear at time she gives it more grit and pushes, but she keeps control and also you can hear how quick she is getting breaths in to keep going. It would be interesting to see how she does this live giving it that much power and with such relentless pace. In the studio she will have the luxury of doing multiple takes so she will get breaks to get her breath back.
    With songs like this its about finding the balance between control, emotion, power and breathing. In the studio you can give it more power and emotion because you can rest inbetween. On tour or live, control and breathing becomes the main focus whilst moderating the power but trying to maintain a good level of emotion.
    When in the studio, i find i use a lot of body movement and almost act the part to give the performance that extra edge. Like if you watch voice over actors, they arent static, they move and simulate what they need to do to deliver the right feel.
    My advice, try pushing yourself and experimenting with more power and emotion. See what sounds good snd connects, then try and dial it back in to gain the control.
    I hope some of this makes sense and helps lol

    One of the noobie objections I hear with beginner vocalists is that they want me to turn off the click track. This is a huge mistake. Get used to singing with a click. Get a metronome for when you practice. The biggest problem that producers have with vocals is not the pitch, it’s the rhythm. Pitch correction actually sounds a lot less jenk than correcting the rhythm. Singing with perfect rhythm will make your vocal tracks so much better than tracks that have to be rhythmically corrected. Just get used to singing to a click, you can thank me later. This goes along with using your hands and gesticulating. The more you can gently move your body to the rhythm, the more in sync with the beat you will be. Listening to the drummer isn’t quite good enough, you’ll be more in time with a click track.

    Very informative video. Do you recommend adding reverb in the singer’s headphone mix to help with pitch accuracy during the recording process?

    • @Vonbeardingham
      @Vonbeardingham  Před 2 lety +1

      Great question. I recommend compression and reverb in a singers headphone mix. Basically you want to give the singer an environment in which they can really deliver the emotion of a song, and a raw dry mix makes the singer feel like their voice is lacking. Soon as you add some compression and reverb they get to hear far more of what their voice is doing and can play around more with the atmosphere it creates

    I’m no lead vocalist by any means but I have sang backup vocals in various bands for a while now and people seam to think I’m a good singer but I don’t really like the sound of my voice because I’m a bass player that also sings backup vocals and I’ll sing a song or two if I have to so I really got a lot from your video some things I’ve figured out by now but it’s still a good check list but the one about reverb and compression was one I never thought of I thought they were just for the people on the other side of the p.a. System

      Hmm…interesting, i would probably suggest scale exercises, there are tons on youtube and they may help free up your movement of singing melodies over a note or chord?

    I had a recording session today and we had to reschedule because my voice was too raspy and lost my range. I don’t know what i did wrong. Warmed up during the day but didn’t strain. I’m almost thinking not warming up before the next session.

    • @Vonbeardingham
      @Vonbeardingham  Před 11 měsíci +1

      You can over do a warm up. But its probably more likely to be a myriad of other factors. What you’ve eaten throughout the day and day before, how hydrated you are, temperature, how much talking you’ve done, your general health, how well you’ve slept and if you suffer with acid reflux at all.
      So many things affect our voices. I find best thing is make sure i drink plenty of water, no chocolate, diary, coffee etc. herbal teas are good.
      I do a lot of recording and my voice is different every day due to all these factors…singing can be a real pain in the ass in the studio. 😡

    im going to sing a school song in a studio soon but imm really neevous and cant help my voice shaking have u got any tips?

    • @Vonbeardingham
      @Vonbeardingham  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Practice recording yourself as much as you can before hand, even if its just into your phone. Nerves are such a bugger and affect all of us, so with any fear, the best way to deal with it is slowly increase our exposure to the thing that scares us. Try singing in front of a friend of family member. Then song the same thing over and over again in front of them. Once youve done that a few times in a row, the fear will decrease as the initial feeling scared will go quite quickly.
      Also the more we sing with people around us the more we normalise it and then can start concentrating on our voice more than the fear.

      @Vonbeardingham  Před 4 lety +1

      Brotherj22 Stops on this video i was using just my voicelive 3 effects pedal for everything. But generally i use cubase for my normal recordings and effects. Nothing overly special. Just the standard compressors and a reverb hall sound thats dialed down mix wise. I sometimes use a little delay low in the mix as well to fatten then sound out occasionally

      @@Vonbeardingham it's just that I am going to record my vocals for the first time in a studio. Although I have practiced and listened to my voice with a mic (audio technica at 2020) on the DAW (bandlab) but I have never monitored my vocals as i sang them because I don't have studio headphones. So I don't have much idea what a "balanced" sound in a headphone is suppose to sound like. How would I know if we have arrived at a balanced sound and if not, how should I go about achieving that by taking to the sound engineer?
      Any thoughts

    • @Vonbeardingham
      @Vonbeardingham  Před rokem +2

      @@MrShahid0072 ok what i would siggest is its all about being comfortable and creating an environment in which you feel you are at ease and can deliver your best performance. For me personally i like to have the vocals compressed abit with some reverb for ambience and atmosphere so it doesn't sound dry and horrible. then generally just make sure you can hear your vocals clearly, but not too loud with the music. i tend to image i'm listening to a cd mix of everything, then just bump up my vocals so they are a little more prominent. A good engineers job is to give you the best sound for you to work with. If they say "no you cant have compression or reverb" and they want you to just sing dry, they are just lazy and not very good at their job
