Update to my last comment. Went and bought one today and very happy with the silence aspect and scored my first ton on third throw. Was considering this or the Blade 4. I hear most players plump for the Blade 4, but comparing both in the shop, the Unicorn won my wallet. Thanks again for review, also was not sure about the plastic numbers but they do look great...

It's a beautiful board, thats my favourite thing about newer unicorn boards is how tidy the spider is. The numbering is nice also!

them plastic numbers seem such a stupid idea. they'll be constantly getting cracked and broken and falling off especially if you're using them in tournaments taking them up and down
Yeah potentially that may be their failing and I think its why some will hate them.
They are extremely durable as the actual reviewers are reporting. They do not fall off easily. They are replaceable unlike other number rings and will be available in a variety of colours.

With two basic mounting systems out there I was waiting for you to say what system used. For instance I like the plastic lug that slots into the keeper. Better for rotation
I show the bracket at 02:23 nearly all dartboards come with that basic type, the only one I have had that came with alternative was the Shot Bandit but Shot/Puma/Bulls also do the round plastic one like you mention.
I got an hd2 a few months ago I really like it alot. I like how the spider is more flush against the sisal. Love the number ring. Can't get any easier to read. And I like how the white sections are actually white. I also have an eclipse pro and the white sections are more yellow. I like the contrast of the black/white hd2. The only thing I didn't like was the 4 thingys that hold down the number ring were loose so I gorrila glued the nails down into the sisal now they stay put. Would recommend this board to anyone

I think its a very good looking board and the spider is great but it has not worn as well as the Blade 4 which is a pity really.

I often say that boards are a bit like darts, people will prefer one board over another for various reasons, I used to like the old Eclipse Pro as it was just right for me but they are not quite the same as they used to be :)
I understand why darts are kind of a personal thing, but im new to darts (kind of) and i feel like most dartboards are the same.... whats the difference between a winmau and a unicorn????
The spider is different, thats the wiring on the board and the performance of the board is different, the Winmau Blade 4 wears better.
Wouldn't touch a Unicorn board for love nor money. I'm happy with my blade4
So if I gave you £10,000 you would not even put your finger on it? :P I prefer the Blade 4 Dual Core over the standard B4 for me its got the best healing of holes and wears better than B4
+Darts Review Channel Well that might put a different perspective on it :P never actually thrown on a B4 Dual Core so can't compare the two but I've heard the dual core is meant to be amazing
Yeah I am a big fan of the B4DC but like every board I have tried there is good and bad points but I would say the B4DC has come the closest to been the perfect board, I think this new HD2 has a lot to like about it but I think its not matching the wear of the B4DC but I guess it depends on whats most important to the individual as I do feel I can focus better on the HD2 :)
I have already played a night. The plastic numbers quickly broken if a dart collides. They also shift during the game and you get the idea that the dartboard does not hang properly. The knife wire damaged very quickly, playing after three hours had to turn the dartboard twice!
The cafe where I play, has again ordered the trusted Winmau dartboards.
Not had any numbers break yet but I have pinged a few off, not sure why they move though not had that issue, maybe if they have been hit they got loose, that's a strange one. But I have said before that the thinner the wire gets the more it will break but in the case of this spider its embedded quite flush to the surface so its not as bad as on the Shot or previous HD1 where it was more raised and more susceptible to damage. I don't think they will ever get a wire as thin as this one that's unbreakable though. The B4 wire is quite thick underneath and rises to a triangular blade so may be that is the only way to go for a longer lasting wire, I cant think of any material that will be longer lasting when made so thin, even titanium would likely break as thin as that?
It's a good dart board, but after two weeks, you can buy a new one if there is any evening is played, even the darts fall out quickly so you have to make the steel points rough, and that's usually the kiss of death for a dartboard, especially the gripper points.
I think the Winmau dart board blade 3 is the best, but that's my opinion and experience.
I think all people have their own favourites really :)

Number ring is great. Proper numbers look good compared to naff bent wire numbers. They are replaceable, and don't damage the dart tip if hit. Also wire number rings are never properly aligned with the sectors (even on the Blade 5). These numbers can be aligned properly.
it does look improved the spider is well beatin into the board.it will be good to see how shes holding up in a few week
Yeah I think they have done a good job on the spider :)
The Unicorn boards are quite harder than the Winmau, that makes it special because it increases the strengh of my right arm, the grip of my right hand & my arm's just got used to be tired. That won't make me giving up darts, thanks to the HD2 (though I don't have it). I got the Eclipse Pro board, I really like it despite there are minor errors. Unicorn darts & board are my absolute priority.
Note: A good board makes you great, but a pretty bad board makes you perfect (somehow)!
Hardest boards are the Bulls, but not every board is made the same, sometimes some batches are different, its not as consistent as darts because it is using a natural material which is sisal.
I saw the board producing videos, and it's interesting to watch.

great review as always mate, board looks great , I'm going to wait a couple of months until after your progress reports before I decide to order one or not. but from the forum I know unicorn have good customer relations so hopefully they have taken all the problems with the HD 1 into consideration when designing and making this board. keep up the good work sir. any chance of a retro Bristow darts review?
Thanks Ben, its still by no means perfect as I point out on the things I nit pick on but they don't detract from it much really, but still I can see room to improve it there. But if it wears well then it will be a very good board.

I've always been surprised when watching the Unicorn boards the amount of broken wires especially around the doubles, and this is in big tournaments, plus the inordinate amount of fall outs as opposed to bounce outs, plus the removable numbers is just a gimmick, From the reviews here I think Ill be sticking with the Winmau and probably go to Blade 5 soon, which looks great.
The HD2 does like great visually when you first get it but it does not hold up so well over time sadly, the spider is very good and the numbers were a good idea in some respects but quickly get annoying when you knock them off or break a few, but the ability to have your own combo of colours was ok but I think it would have been best if they were a rubber type material, something that gripped on better and was more durable. But the Blade wears better and that for most people is the most important aspect :)
Too hard, and the spider sticks up too much for my preference. Winmau/Nodor, or Gladiator are just the best overall IMO.

Yes at last a superb quality dartboard from Unicorn must say that they have took time to create a decent innovative beautiful board, I've had both eclipse pro and also hd one boards and have to say very dissatisfied with both as always had problems with bullseye being of centre or colour segments being very poorly painted and bleeding into board on hd board hated spider as to raised from aisle and white paint chipping off when dart hits it etc. I nearly always use winmau blade 4 or dual core now as they are simply made to highest standard and make you want to play darts, I do have to say though I will try this board out and just hope sisle last a decent time and remember to use normal dart points as I've found knurled or gripper points pull sisle out pretty quick. All in all a very clever dartboard design and it appeals to me for sure. Nice review Darren so many thanks
Thanks Stuart! I think they must have reacted to my review on the first HD board and improved the spider, I do like this new spider a lot though it is so much better, but still remains to be seen how the performance and durability holds up :)
Yes I agree Darren I actually complained to unicorn about my hd one board and they were very nice and replaced it for me however after six months it looked absolutely shagged so just threw it and went down Argos and got dual core from winmau, I'm hoping winmau will maybe do a blade 5 sometime soon!
Yeah I had similar issues on the HD1, both spiders lifted so I binned it. I just don't know what else they can do to make a board better though?
Question is will it last I worn out the eclipse HD board with in three Months my blade 4 duel core looks brand new four months on
Yeah will have to see, I like it so far though but I think the one thing people may get annoyed with is the numbers, if your an average player or a beginner its quite possible you will break them, I did throw darts deliberately at them the other day and hit them a few times but did not break them but I figure people with heavier darts or harder throws will. So I will try again throwing some heavy darts, may do a vid of it too :)

Well I played a little when I was a kid then a bit again when I was about 18 then never played again until I was about 35 then I played a bit more seriously for a couple of years until I injured my throwing arm, had to stop for a couple of years so I guess I have been playing properly (although not as good as I was due to my injury) for about 7 years :)
I may be in the minority but I really like how the veins look on the blade 4

I got winmau blade 5 which I currently had since XMAS (I do practice 4-6 hours daily) and the board is pretty knackud, Have only 2 segments that isn't worned out. I kinda noticed that the blade 4 board actually lasts longer? have you noticed any of that between blade 4 to blade 5? anyways im going to buy new board next month, would you recommend me trying the unicorn eclipse HD2 or do you think blade 5 is better? THANKS
I have heard a few mention that now, I just have not had enough time on mine yet to judge it properly but I am inclined to think the Blade 4 may have lasted better. I only play around 1 hour or so a day though, cant play much longer or my wrist starts to bother me but I would say you may be better off with the Gladiator 3, I think its just a little firmer than the Blade 5 and so far people I know using it are saying its lasting well.
Yeah Im starting to defo think Blade 5 is not as good as the Blade 4, so out of Blade 4 or Gladiator 3 which one would you go for?
I wonder what they may have done to make it not last as well, its very strange if they have changed something like the sisal or its density because in the long run it wont do them any favours. With the Gladiator I know that One80 put a lot of time and research into making it as good as possible, they listened to the feedback from people about the G2 and as a lot said that was a little too hard, so they spent a lot of time getting just the right level of density for the G3 and testing it for wear and I hear a lot of comments from people saying its wearing very well so far, so I am leaning towards the G3 as been the best, I just need to use it more myself first to know for sure.
Yeah i'll go order myself the G3, I do use 26g g3 phil taylor darts so that's prob why I go through the board so quick. 2 years back I usto throw with 14G darts and that hardly put a dent in the board haha :P

Hi darts review channel I would really appreciate it if you answered this question: we all know the bristle quality of the unicorn boards don't even match winmau. Is there any improvement here. I do 4 hrs practice a day. Will the bristle be falling out of it like on the TV???
I cant really tell if it has a different sisal, sisal is a plant fibre and its just called Grade A so I assume its the best you can get but I don't know how to tell one from another. I think what makes the difference is more to do with how it is compressed together and how dense it is and also how it is glued to the backboard. I don't know what process they have done to improve that but on first impressions it does seem better and I only had one bounceout/dropout so far and even that was from a slightly dodgy thrown dart. But my darts usually land in the board at an angle so if other peoples darts land flatter then they may have more issues? Its holding up well so far but I have only had about 5 hours use on it.

Its quite holy, the only thing for me is the holes dont heal up well enough. I would say the Gladiator 3 is the best board for wear now.

I've been saying this for many years, blunt points ruin dart boards, mine are razor sharp and my home dart board is in fine nick after a lot of use,
Razor sharp is not a good idea either, they need to be sharp but not needle sharp :)

Well its doing well so far, only had one bounceout and wearing well at present, still early days though.

Well I think for better players than me it will be but I do think I have hit more 140's the last few days and I came close on 3 occasions of beating my best at 100 at 20 :)

Thats what would a fair review look like, i completely agree with you there though. Not sure what is technologically possible, but those little things actually do bother me ! Looking forward to your verdict in a few weeks time, curious to see how the problem with spewing darts out looks like !
Well I played on it an hour yesterday and I had 1 bounceout but it was kind of thrown a bit off so not sure if its fair to call it a bounceout really but I still marked it down as one lol
does this board have stabilisers like the back of blade 4 does?

I really don't like the number ring because you have to pay to get numbers your missing which is ridiculous. the welding numbers are perfect as even if you strike the number, it doesn't come off and you just take the ring off and back on when you rotate the board and not splashing out money on numbers.
I think they were just trying something different but more for the option of been able to customize your set up with different coloured numbers, like I mention in the review I think (cant remember now as it was a while ago) but some will like the idea and some wont. But after using the board for some time the main issue I had is the fact the numbers would break or ping off if you hit them which got annoying after a few times. I do like the fact I could centralize the numbers better which is something that bugs me on the welded numbers when a number has not been aligned right but the breakages is not good so now they have changed it on the new version and the numbers are now made of metal which should be better, but it remains to be seen if they still ping off when hit :)

I would call it shit. Just because a sponsor supplies a board doesnt mean its quality. It means the sponsor paid to have their board used. Look at EVERY Unicorn dartboard used in a PDC tournament. After ONE match, the treble 20 looks like crap. It took me months of daily play to make my Winmau Blade 4 look half as bad. Unicorn boards just seem cheap and the sisal is just cheap
yes then take that board home & use it for 30hrs & it will be fucked. blades & about any other boards are better than crappy unicorn boards.

I forgot what it was when I bought it but all darts shops sell them, I think the current price is around £45. Double Top Darts have them in.

Not sure yet, I don't know when they will be out but Unicorn have their product launch next week so they could be shown for the first time then, but they will also have coloured numbers!

Yep I said opinion would be divided, I think it has a good look but they are trying something new and some will hate it and some will think its cool, I have not 100% made my mind up yet but I think I am leaning towards liking it especially now the new coloured numbers are out :)

Well either a B4DC or Gladiator 2 or Bulls 3 or this HD2 look to be good buys, I do like the rota lock on the B4DC though :)

Just feels a better quality made board and so far for me at least its lasted better than the two Blade 5's I have had. However boards are not as consistent in production as darts, dartboards are made with sisal which is a natural fibre and how they are stored and used and where etc can affect them differently. So what I am saying in short is that no two boards are a like. But most people I have known agree the G3 is better overall.

unicorn have many issues, not the best value darts manufacturer.
Not as good as they once were but having said that I often find their darts suit me more than most and thats what its all about in the end.
