- The 2024 Toyota GR Yaris, debuting at the Tokyo Auto Salon, marks a significant evolution in Toyota's hot-hatch segment. Originally launched to critical acclaim, the GR Yaris has undergone extensive improvements in response to three years of continuous development. This new iteration promises an unparalleled driving experience, enhanced by Toyota's unwavering commitment to "driver-first" principles and insights from motorsport expertise.
Key enhancements include an evolution of the turbocharged three-cylinder engine, now delivering increased power and torque. The introduction of a new eight-speed GAZOO Racing Direct Automatic Transmission ensures rapid gear changes, adding to the car's dynamic performance. Furthermore, the chassis has been strengthened, and adjustments to the suspension system result in improved handling and robust performance, especially under high stress.
A focus on the "Circuit" specification simplifies the range, including a cooling performance pack for superior thermal management. The interior redesign emphasizes a sports car feel with a revamped cockpit layout and driving position, catering to both on-road driving and motorsport competition.
The development journey of the GR Yaris reflects Toyota's philosophy of "develop, race, break, fix," with continuous improvement driven by real-world motorsport challenges. The engine's upgrade, tested to its limits in various racing series, now offers 280 DIN hp and 390 Nm of torque. The cooling performance pack, featuring a new sub-radiator and intercooler spray, bolsters reliability during intense driving conditions.
The new eight-speed automatic transmission, designed for optimal downshift speed, incorporates advanced software that anticipates driver intentions, mirroring professional driving techniques. This system has demonstrated its effectiveness in track testing, achieving faster lap times than the manual transmission. The addition of front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials enhances handling performance.
Chassis enhancements, driven by increased body rigidity, result in improved yaw response, steering feedback, and grip. The suspension system, retaining its lightweight design, has been fine-tuned based on feedback from competition drivers.
Interior modifications focus on a competition-inspired cockpit, with controls repositioned for quick access and a clearer field of vision for the driver. The new 12.3-inch fully digital combimeter offers both normal and sport layout modes, catering to different driving scenarios.
Exterior refinements are not merely cosmetic but functional, influenced by motorsport feedback. Changes include optimized grille designs for aerodynamics and heat management, relocation of lights for reduced damage risk, and a new exterior color option, Precious Metal. Equipment upgrades feature the latest Toyota Safety Sense systems, navigation, and digital key, with higher specifications in the automatic model.
In summary, the new GR Yaris is more than an incremental update; it's a comprehensive overhaul that elevates its status in the hot-hatch segment. With its roots in motorsport and a relentless pursuit of improvement, the 2024 GR Yaris sets a new benchmark for performance, handling, and driver engagement.

I love the new dashboard. It's so simple looking, it reminds me of my NA MX-5. I've never been a fan of lavish interiors, keep it simple and humble, spend the money on the engineering.
The "drivers first" approach is a good one, also kinda looks like the Supras dash used to be, oriented towards driver. Like a fighter cockpit 😂
best TOYOTA ❤
I hope these changes will filter down the GR Corolla
I think a lot of the changes have come from the GR Corolla!!
except the big weight penalty @@kevinparker461
@@kevinparker461 all tech that are in GR Corrola were all from Yaris not the other way around
The bonsai-warrior within. What a cool little thing!! Knowing it comes from Japan, makes it very delicious.
Gr Corolla is getting auto, hopefully. Would love to get one for daily commute in congested city.
MANUAL is for FUN😂🤤
AUTOMATIC is for COMPETITIVE 🏆.
Protect the Manual Every one heehe😂
Finally auto one guess will buy this one
I cant wait until the driver less versions come out, that way I can sit at home and watch a movie, while my car goes for a race at the local race track.
Battle with i30N DCT please!
Cool on the automatic, too bad not avail in USA/Canada
DATのGRカローラ待ってます。
Google japan toyota taxi. The dash is sooo similar to the new gry
hopefully they give the auto the gr corolla

How can there be a world debut when they don't offer this car in the U.S.
Hopin they put it in the GR Corolla
Maybe you should learn to drive stick, how about that.
They're enthusiast cars. Having it with automatic is kind of ridiculous.
I hope Toyota got rid of the fake engine noise pumped in through the speakers.
It can be turned off…either by the dealer when getting serviced or via Carista
@@terryg1575 Thank you for the info. 👍🏼 I can't understand why Toyota would make a car so pure and then pump in fake engine noise.
@@davidhunternyc1because you cant have loud exhaust anymore, especially in Eu.
3 cylinders hv no sound la.
@@torrhthc4103 3cyl has awesome sound. You just need to open restrictions.
The manual box in the current version is very notchy and hinders fast driving. If they haven’t improved it for the 2024 version, the auto is a no-brainer, it will transform the driving experience of an otherwise brilliant car.
As long as if it's not CVT
It's not, it's a torque converter.
The design, if you can call it a design, of the dash is under big question.. the design of the car is so brutal, but why the dash is not following the same logic. It is like a pizza delivery van from inside....
I get theres a segment for it but who buys an homologation rallye car and picks an auto box ? Nothing about the car is practical or useable beyond getting something really fkin small from a to b usually in several pieces...........ff 20 years and I assure you the purists will want a manual just like every other iconic car ......E46, i30n, type r, mx5, any fkin 911, nissan z, M2, supra, gt4 etc etc. Fk Electric, Fk Auto, Manual FTW
Good morning my name frank Owusu from Ghana am welder I heva 15 years experience in job I need companies to apply working visa sponsorship for me
And now nobody will buy the manuals
Think most people will still buy manual.
But the people that cant drive manual and lives the yaris.
Perfect
I will
Depends on how much torque the auto's can take.
@@jorgnyoa3561i have a manual 2022 gr yaris the handling, torque and everything else is more than okay
GR Yaris is not an easy car to drive. People who want this car should prefer and have no problem with manual transmission.
Still manual will be better from a dig in this case
How fast can it go? M2 fast? If yes and price is cheaper it will be a game changer. Need 5 yrs unlimited mileage warrenty too.😂
It’s a homologated road going rally car so for driving tight bumpy back roads it’s already faster than an M2 and in the wet faster across that type of terrain than just about anything else on the road. Certainly in the UK they come with a 10 year warranty.
For open roads/motorways the M2 will of course beat it hands down. Different cars built for different buyers.
Even if the Automatic exists, it is still 20kg heavier than the manual version. This makes the manual have greater performance potential than the automatic.
Nope… the acceleration of the auto makes it better
やっと2ペダルの時代がキタ━(゚∀゚)━!
