Not only is Hyce hammering the F key to move fast, he's also paying respect for each car he has destroyed
ya, god dam annoying but its the only speedy way to move :P sourse i god dam am playing realistic
@@lechking941There's also the that can help hugely
He's gonna start having to pay respects to keyboards he's destroyed at this rate.
and traction motors
Hyce: Let's play on realistic physics! Also Hyce: "let's play on realistic physics as though we're playing in sandbox mode!"
I can't wait to see him try and run the DM3. It hunts so much at 60 that you think it's derailing. Plus the manual gearbox.
The DM3 is scary at over 75, bouncing around so much.
The ES&D mechanic came into Hyce's office later that day, ear plugs in his nose; "You need to come look at this and no I'm not fixing it."
M8, you didn’t press the fuel cutoff button. The engine is still running. :)
Something worth noting, particularly with the DE2 having no dynamic brakes, is that the train brake system in Simulator is graduated release (as is the case in Europe). There’s no need to kick off the brakes all the way when you want less brake force, and it’s also impossible to pee away the air as the reservoirs are constantly being recharged in this system.
I cannot wait until the USA themed DLC comes out and everyone used to the gradual release brakes finds themselves running out of air.
This actually has me wondering whether best practice actually does change with graduated release - is there a preferred/instructed way to do things differently, or is there a benefit to running it as if it wasn't graduated release. That's something I've honestly never thought about before, so I want to thank you for your comment prompting me to wonder about something I didn't know I wanted to know.
Not even hooked up the first train, and Kenosha started??? this is gonna go well.
I said out loud, "it's too _early_ for Kenosha!!!"
29:21 "I don't wanna litter" says the man that indiscriminately spilled every chemical in the game across the environment and then exploded it.
I think the reason they left the switch setting in thru the Comms radio is because it's like your asking dispatch. And a realistic mode without a "dispatch" isn't really realistic. Also goes to show for the radios name.
@@thundergroup yes, you can.
Rare occurrence of Hyce having no fees, relish in this moment while you still can
It was very short-lived. Managed almost $10k in fees on the first job 😂
The intro to this is lovely, Hyce, I love the continuity of it from that last career to this one. Very nicely done, thank you for that.
And of course there's some Smells Like Kenosha
This is gonna be a great series, I can tell!
ES&D must have played the "Bankruptcy Trap Card" to get the EPA to let them start over hahaha
Squirrel's videos showed that if you look in career manager under stats, you have a fee tolerance. As long as you dont have any single fee above that, you can still take jobs, so you don't have to pay fees every single time. So if you keep swaping locomotives, you can make the most of your copay, especially early while it's still low.
DM3 is a very engaging locomotive, especially when downshifting while engine braking on a downhill. Or trying to
Yeah and blowing up your gearbox, that's what happened to me the first time around
Honestly, spending the $1k on the shunting licence at the start of the game is the best decision to make, opens up a lot of jobs and a lot of money in a fairly short period of time, and if you're halfway competent at trains you'll always make the time bonus
The DM3 is very hands on, but fun to drive. DH4 is easy-mode! Love the play-through. 😀
The Hyce has to be a good boi now mode. Imagining how serious and careful he'd have to play once explodey/atomic bois reenter the fray. Or if Kenoshas still happen enough, how often will there be streams and such trying to work and get the payments paid.
With all what happened prior... got off lightly getting his licenses and such 'taken away' and not outright fired and then jailed.
Will/should this mode have a pee in a cup counter?
It's time to start anew.... only time will tell how the valley will fare this time.
Hint: Shunting is only 1k, so you can buy it almost immediately if that interests you
Edit: ah...you did indeed buy it xD
22:22 it's not over till Kenosha starts playing and i don't hear no Kenosha.
Hyce I can offer some tips that I have learned after 4 or 5 career restarts.
1. As you found out things are expensive and your ability to earn money is poor at this stage. The lantern, flashlight, and lighter are all *massive* wastes of money at least until you need the lighter for steam trains otherwise again the light sources are all traps to cripple you early game.
2. Manual maintenance saves about 50% that I have observed but the maintenance costs are unbalanced and get out of control very quickly.
3. When dashing tilt your view up and you will dash much farther at the steel mill you could have gone from your train to the office in 3 -5 dashes if that much.
4. Don't be afraid to be aggressive with the air brakes as you will very likely never run out of air in the main reservoir before you bring even the heaviest train to a full stop.
5. Many licenses and trains require other licenses on top of them so the cost for licenses quickly gets out of control. The DM3 doesn't have any additional requirements so it makes for a good step up from the DE2.
6. Multiple units at this stage of the game is another trap. You can haul a fair amount with 3-6 DE2s but the maintenance costs which for one engine are already excessive get out of control even faster.
7. Coast as much as possible to save fuel. It's stupid and not as fun as going full tilt but keeping your speeds between 40-60 kph will let you glide through most parts of the network I have noticed without touching the brakes or throttle for the most part.
8. Be prepared to shunt cars for a long time. It's cheap on maintenance costs and lets you manage a few jobs before drying a location up and having to take a freight job to a different location to shunt some more.
9. Because of the earning potential issues it's been generally advised to save up and buy all of your licenses in one go so you can have access to the higher paying jobs needed to maintain them.
I hate to say it but at this point you may have already crippled your play through when you don't have enough money to pay off your copay and can't take any jobs because of your outstanding debt. I *really* hope that the devs fix the income balance fast because it can kill hours of work.
As for the dashing, the distance of it is pretty much limited in Realistic mode. Looking further up to increase the range won'twork here.
@@CakePrincessCelestia Odd I could have sworn that was one of things that didn't change with realistic mode.
I can already smell the Kenosha.
When it started so early, I couldn't imagine how he'd derail so soon. Then I remembered traction motors blow now right when he throttled up hard 😂
Awesome intro to a new series, Hyce! Just one thing I wanted to mention... _I don't think you're supposed to have the headlights on High Beam during daytime operations_
For any object push "R" to place item down. With the lanterns you place them down then light the lighter and click the lantern. Also instead of buying MU you can just jump between engines and run each manually. I once did it with 7 DE2s.
Little tip, when you're shunting (or just moving around the yard, for that matter) you might just as well leave both headlights on, instead of switching between white snd red lights every time you change directions. Don't know how you do it in the us, but this is how we do it here in Europe (or at least here in Czechia).
Your knowledge of all of these trains definitely makes this even more enjoyable to watch!
I’m glad you like the Sim! Just a little tip once you get up to cruise speed about 70 km an hour you should have coasted to save a bunch of fuel!
Love to see DV videos coming back. Got the game earlier this week and fell in love with it. Something I do know about the DE2 is that it can pull about 400t on flat surface so that’s fun trying to pull some early game trains. But overall a very fun experience for me and new favorite game.
At the moment I'm trying to pull 400t up the harbour +1.2 grade with 1 de2 and it's not going well...
DE-2 really should not haul more than about 250t up a slope, shunting in the yard it can do about 800t before it struggles
Hyce playing DV on realistic, OMG this is going to be good!
Hyped is an understatement!
I suddenly recognized Smells like Kenosha and I couldn't fathom what Hyce was about to get wrong until I saw the blue flash in the train console.
Yes, I'm a complete train driving noob, but I'm trying to understand.
That code brown moment had me clenching also, I didn't think I would be so invested in this series and I didn't hear Kenosha at that time so that calmed me a little.
Looking forwards to seeing more of this series, hopefully it will be a long-term success!
Yup, I was thinking pretty much the same thing about Kenosha playing when unexpected, and then not playing when I was concerned it might!
"The DE2 is basically a tractor on rails."
Just wait until you properly use the DM3. XD
FYI the DM3 license doesn't increase your co-pay and can pull 2-3x the tonnage of the DE2 (as long as you can stomach the slow pace)
I do have to agree it's slow. Even at full tilt it's top speed is like 40-50 i think. But it does have power.
@@taliakuznetsova7092 with nothing behind it it can hit 70.
I pull a dm3 behind my 282 for emergency and hill assist.
The other day I pulled 1200t out of the harbor and never went below 30
@@nextalcupfan Really? I found I ran out of rpm at 40-50 at full gear. Unless you were at max max rpm to the point it would blow if it was down a hill.
3-3 at 1000 RPM is around 70-72 kph
@@nextalcupfan I got it to 70km/h with a load, just after the end of a slight uphill
Island of Sodor mod! THATS what's needed here
Hyce me boy! You can still use Alt-mode in realistic. Helps alot when using the turntable. 🤓
Woow, did not know you can turn the turntable by walking against it! noice!
Why is Kenosha playing in the yard? Oh. Oh. Hyce finds a way.
I'm gonna be living vicariously through this because my current laptop cannot run Derail Valley Simulator
also I love how "realistic" mode is basically just the DV game experience before the Simulator/Overhauled updates
While having a discussion with my non-train friend about steam locomotives, I came to the cursed conclusion that a steam loco technically drives on its crankshaft and now I can't unthink it
Ol' Sparky is on the throttle I see 😂
The intent with the time bonus being so high is that you start the job before assembling the train
Yea but who really activates the job before hooking up the consist?
@@deniskennedy4483 the devs said they made the change because no one was, to encourage it
I played along, like I guess a few others did, but I already have a few licenses. Still took the DE2 and a train of rails to the harbor. I had 7 cars though so I had to back up and make a run up the hill out of the steel mill. By the time you called it quits for the episode I had just cleared the last switch for the final downhill into the harbor. This was great though! Im excited for more!
Me at 8:45 : Why am I hearing derrail music? He is not even moving!
Hyce: *Proceeds to melt traction motors*
🤣🤣🤣
32:22 that's a setting, you can turn off lean toggling somewhere and make it hold-only
Using the new Alt mode really helps when driving.
Also when doing the turntable thing... you can actually watch it doing its thing without having to be in VR.
Oh yeah. I found a fun tidbit in the keybind config: a Keybind for Pantographs! I have a hunch that we'll be seeing some electric locos soon(ish)!
There's also one for Alerter, which means they might make it so you have to push the button every few minutes on realistic mode to not go into emergency brakes. XP
derail valley desperately needs a multiplayer
I feel like there should be an option where holding the "teleport button" allows you to just keep porting forward specifically for realistic mode so that you don't have to Mario Party to "sprint"
I programmed a macro to one of my spare keys. I can teleport across the entire map in about a minute. Usefull when I don't want to waste money teleporting with the map.
Yeah I think they should change that. As long as you can teleport, there is no reason to limit the distance so drastically. It just makes it more annoying
They could simply make the sprint more of an actual sprint, and less of a relaxing jog. The teleport always felt like a necessary evil for this game. It's unrealistic as hell; an ugly remnant of VR movement controls that somehow made it into the desktop version... but we need it, because things are spaced so far apart. Short of giving the player some roller skates, I'm not sure how it could be improved upon.
Hahaha love the Unstoppable reference! 4 cars Connie lol
I haven't driven the DE2 in the Simulator update but I don't know how I feel about seeing it go at high speeds because I'm so used to it beginning to overheat once you put it in notch 4 like it used to.
Try pulling something heavy uphill and you get the same experience except it also blows up
@@Spacccee watchout: can not manage 226 tones out of HB to the west
@@botaohenryfeng9587 Yeah, because of the DE2's tractive effort, I basically just had a permanent double-header of two DE2s for every job because of how hilly the island is until I saved enough money to buy the DH4 license.
@@kood995 I would say if you're confident enough to go for the DM3 license instead of shooting for a DH4 license, it is cheaper to repair a DM3 than a DH4
You can print while selecting a fee for a locomotive (or a job) and it will give you the breakdown of what each item costs.
You can also print on licenses and you'll be able to see how each license affects your copay.
Not even 15 min in and Hyce is already blowing traction motors, this is gonna be fun to watch...
Music volume needs to come down a wedge, but this is a great watch. Very excited for more ^_^
You can *unsafely* go 40 out of the turntable tracks. To make it safer, ignore the sounds of the train almost coming off the rails at every corner.
I have good news for you Hyce: the coupler mod is updated!
Get the DM3! It's got some great pulling power. I took a train of excavators from MF to IME.
I didn't realise you could go and hook up the train before you even accept the order!
You can even move them around like assembling trains for multiple jobs before accepting them or putting drop offs on the loading tracks for those shunting jobs.
It's always great when Big Hook is at the start of something, because you can have a hook while you hook.
Just found your channel after starting dv this week, so good! Thanks for the fun ☺️
On the mill & harbor quick bit, you hit the mystery limiter of 70 and still had her in 11. the Trip Optimizer police don't like that one bit!
Need to put the Laughing Sawfish logo on that L-096.
Well played. And then go crash dive it somewhere off a bridge! XD
It was good being back to DRV and look at things and you managed not to binge anything but giving a TM a little more than it could handle.
Keep them videos coming 🐻💪🏻🇩🇰
When you started going for the manual service without the licence I was shouting at my screen haha. And then when you didn't hit the fuel cutoff and thought the engine was still running... yeah it totally was lol.
Good luck pulling anything up the hill out of the harbor, cant wait haha
I have really been enjoying driving the DM3. Not nearly as complicated as the steamer (which almost needs a dedicated fireman and brakeman now), but still nicely hands on, and with the engine braking, I barely ever have to touch the air brakes.
Just don't miss a shift at speed.
10 mins in... and already beefed it lol. Realistic will not be easy on you sir!
FRA finally caught up to old ES&D
Maybe you know this already, but cut your throttle when you're cruising on flat. You're just burning fuel otherwise. The reason is that electric motors generate a voltage when you spin them (which is how generators work), but unless you allow current to flow, they don't do any actual work, so with the engine idling you'll roll for a loooooong time (just friction slowing you). Allowing current to flow to something (say, a battery or a bank of giant resistors) means the motors are actually doing work, and so your momentum is converted into electricity and you slow down. This is how dynamic breaking works. This is also the reason less and less current flows the faster you go: even when you're applying a voltage to the motors and they're drawing current, the faster they spin, the more voltage they generate themselves. At some point the voltage you apply no longer exceeds the voltage generated by the motors and you reach the top speed of the motors for the given voltage. Increasing the engine throttle spins the generator/alternator faster and creates a higher voltage and thus you can accelerate further.
5:15 hyce has observed an observation tower
i live in a small country with soviet era diesel locomotives and they barely run with just 1 passenger car attached at max 45 mph... im suprised seeing a locomotive pulling more than 3 cars XD
Hi Mark that was ultra cool. Realistic detailing for sure. I continue to learn by watching you operate the simulated controls! Looking forward to your next job! Thanks Professor and cheers!
Have you heard of stormworks? It’s a game where you can build your own vehicles including locomotives. It would be really interesting to see how you’d design your own steam locomotive and freight cars.
Dont think he would enjoy it too much, given that it has the most scuffed, nonsensical physics ive seen in any procedural vehicle builder.
I would LOVE to unironically do this for a living lol. I don't know how realistic it is to want to work at a tiny, private, trainyard. But I'd love to run trains for a company that's slowly getting on its feet while getting progressively bigger jobs.
Haven't played this game since January, but I am happy to see that they remodeled the starting train. It really needed that light in the cab.
@hyce just in case you didn't know the new tank engine is located in bob's old garage.
Yay back in the Valley! I don't know if its bad too do but i use the handbrake alot while backing up to cars cause the big wheel is right there. especially in the dm3 its brake looks like an old ships wheel.
This game looks like a hell of a vibe, just doing train stuff in the middle of nowhere. wonder if my computer can run it...
Personally, I would prefer a standard difficulty career LP. The outside view is whatever but operating a railroad alone is unrealistic. It is far easier to do the jobs of a couple of people in standard mode. And, being able to use the keyboard controls is honestly better I think. Being able to look at what you’re doing and manipulate the throttle and brakes is more realistic, at least to me. The map HUD is the only potential downside to standard mode, and even then, a real train crew already knows their route by the time they finish training and get released unsupervised so when that’s whatever. Vote to switch to standard mode.
Yeah the keyboard restriction is frankly stupid and makes it less realistic. In the real world I can look one way and reach my h and in another. Keybinds and simulators go hand in hand.
I personnaly think that if you are playing in VR , it's better to use realistic mode since you won't have keyboard control anyway and you are able to use both of your hands for operating the train.
That "chess piece" is a weather doppler radar.
Another banger of a video. Great job Hyce. Keep them coming and we'll keep watching😊
Oooh Fresh map to cover in wrecks!
"the DE-2 is a Tractor on rails so that tracks"
Tors
Hold ‘R’ to set down objects!
And here we go again, let's see how long it takes for explosions
In response to that 'one can pull that the other can only start' I always wondered how well a steam engine with a diesel electric tender would work. The tender could help at slow speeds like having a 4 or 6 axle shunter permanently attached.
...Hearing Smells Like Kenosha start up not *ten minutes* into this save with *real consequences* is an Experience. Props to the editor for having it start up so far ahead of the incidents, there is not *one* horror game this good at inducing dread.
Hyce, the reason they didn't spin the 96 around was so it was right when you inevitably end up upside down next to the track :P
Also, to place the lantern down you need to press R, it'll then give you a silhoutte, position that where you want the lantern to be and click. Then to light it get your lighter out, light it and approach the lantern and click on it.
Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. 96 upside down is still 96.
@@BrooksMoses fair point, but as they always say, don't let reality ruin a good joke!
Very much looking forward to a serious career play thru. 👍
That description of using train brakes and worrying about using up all your air going down the hill sounds a lot like the time I was driving to school in my beater '65 Mustang and the master-cylinder started leaking a bit. The brakes worked fine in short amounts, but if I used them too long the pedal would sink to the floor and I'd have to release them to get them to work again.
This was really enjoyable to watch. It was so relaxing
love the video, its just the right amount of serious but still fun and the typical "thats fine"
As I'm saying to myself, nice and easy... Hyce - "Grab all of the speed! ...30 through the yard is probably great." 😂 ...and then blasts through at 70
Awesome. Just please turn the music a bit down
Yessir the ES&D is back
You are WAY more aggressive driving through these yards than I am. Nearly took a bite out of my chair a couple times.
We've got places to be, mate!
Started my own Realistic career run after watching your video. Two jobs down: Steel Mill to Machine & Factory, and Machine & Factory to Harbor Town. Many more to go.
A fresh start to be crazy with.
i quickly fell into the outside view, and onscreen controls menu, i might have to start a realistic run myself! before simulator my fav way to run trains was standing on the roof with the remote.
Never really thought too much about this game or any tycoon type of game. Never been what I wanted to do. Route building is more my thing so it's TS or TRS for that...but...now I see this sim with the fancy update and I'm thinking I might have to want DR. The graphics are excellent and I can almost overlook the bumpers in front of the couplers. If this game had North American content the sim might well be legendary. Maybe someday.
I am so happy to see a play through again! Blowing stuff up every time is fun but it was getting a little much. Keep doing some of those videos every so often though.
All that work to get to the roundhouse, and you need the license 😂
Super excited for this series!
