About that bird/Toriyama joke. Toriyama is the name of the creator of Dragon ball. Goku heals the bird and says "Go Toriyama and teach a dinosaur to ride a ball". This is a reference to the original Japanese lyrics to Dragon Ball Z. There's a lyric in there that says something about teaching a dinosaur to ride a ball.
5 years late to the party, but the joke goes a little further if you know "tori" is Japanese for bird.
The flashback scene at the beginning shows Goku being sent to earth, not vegeta. So technically Cooler could have killed Goku as a baby but decided not to, just to stick it to Frieza.

Much like the "Big Green" joke in season 2, this is a reference to the infamously horrible Harmony Gold dub of DBZ, which renamed the majority of the characters for some reason. Korrin was renamed to Whiskers the wonder cat, Piccolo to big green, etc etc

The Spaz Boys had NO IDEA they would be as into this series as they are when they saw Episode 1. DBZ Abridged sucks you right in, doesn't it! I discovered them in 2012 finding them from a sidebar link after watching old DBZ video snippets. The worst part as you rightly foreseen is the wait for new videos. It can be EXCRUCIATING! But Episode 54 is coming soon so by the time you're catch up maybe Episode 55 won't be so far off.

Well there was this egg salad I brought one time. I tried to keep it cool in ice, in a cooler. I guess that wasn't enough and apparently I was the only one eating it, cause about two hours later I was the only one barely able stand in front of a toilet, my body evacuated itself, from both ends. Quite violently I might add. I was told I blacked on the toilet after being purged and zapped of all energy and water. Later to wake up many hours later in a bed covered in sweat. In pain all over and throbbing headache.
Picked up the cooler, handle broke, slammed on my toes, spilt all the ice and meat on the floor

Once I used to use a cooler to keep fish in when I went fishing with my grandma, So then one day we were going to go to the beach and my mom told me to get the cooler out of the garage and fill it with ice, soda, sandwiches, etc. When I opened the cooler, the rank stench of dead fish hit me in the face like a mushroom cloud from an atomic bomb. And THAT is my story of how a cooler once got revenge on me. :D

That's apparently a reference to the opening song, Cha-La-Head-Cha-La in which a line tells you to teach a dinosaur how to ride a ball! Piccolo kidnapped Gohan after he killed his father and his uncle for good reason only to use him against the Saiyans. Though he may have earned some points for saving him and dying but he only see's Gohan as a little friend and student not a family member. To say Piccolo is a better father than Goku isn't accurate due to Piccolo's real relationship as master and student not father and son.
