I kept telling them to leave me alone until finally I "threatened" calling the cops on them, and they never called again. For anyone about to blast me with comments saying what I did was illegal, I knew from googling the phone number that it was based in New York and that there was no possible way I could actually call the cops in New York to tell them about something they were likely going to ignore altogether. It was an idle threat, but it worked!
I think I know which collection agency from the last story. They have been calling me about a debt that I supposedly own from a credit card taken out in my name from an address that I hadn't lived at in years when that card was opened. Every time I told them to go ahead and serve me so we can go to court, they'd stop calling and then a new company would call with the same information. They'd never send me any actual proof of the debt and the last woman who I spoke got an attitude with me when I told her they were not getting one red cent and to go ahead and serve me the papers I'd been waiting for for almost 6 years. That was the last call I had from them for more than a year. Hopefully they're the same company.

But yeah, always be on the safe side and let them know you are recording, if they refuse to accept that then you know they are doing something shady because there is ZERO reason for any legit company to disallow that.
