    I had the privilege of meeting Pete in 2013 and we chatted for about 15 mins. Although he seemed a bit messed up, he was very sympathetic and caring and I think he asked more questions about me and how my day was so far. After our chat, we hugged like mates saying goodbye. I told him to look after himself and hope to see him again. His response was… believe me mate, I’m trying to get straight and one day I’ll crack it.

    From the title I assumed Pete would be the one behaving in an embarrassing way. But no, he handled himself with great grace and humility in the face of very intrusive questioning from someone totally ignorant of his work. Kudos to Pete.

      I’m old enough to remember his heyday… he was literally famous for being a massive drug addict & acting like a complete mess, always causing chaos… his band had a couple of hits but then fell apart because he used to do heroin before gigs & then fall about mumbling gibberish on stage instead of performing… the fact that he doesn’t understand why an interviewer is asking him about his drug related behaviour pretty much shows how out of touch with reality he was back then tbh.

    There’s a real unfair romanticism around tortured people and creativity. Winehouse passing at 27 really upset me because she was abused by all the people around her. There’s nothing romantic there, that’s just sad. I’m just glad another young guy on the cusp of adulthood is around today and clean. You can see it in him that he’s a better person. He’s also quoted as saying when he was high his writing was crap. Which I love.

    • @ChampagneOasisGaming
      @ChampagneOasisGaming Před 8 měsíci +2

      Amy winehouse was her own worst enemy man. Noone could ever abuse her the way she abused herself, even her mom said that in her book (Worth a read for a very straightforward and surprisingly unbiased book about amy's life and tragic death). The real tragedy is she died at a time when she had kicked all drugs and simply couldn't kick the alcohol. It was an accidental death 100%. If anything you are joining in on romanticizing it by saying it was everyone elses fault and implying she was some kind of victim of the people around her, which has been proven to be untrue. If anything SHE treated those around her like objects. I'm sure you haven't researched nearly this as much as I have since I am a certified winehouse fanboy, but I just wanted to clear up the matter.

    First things first. I’m Irish, and this eejit Pat Kenny is a dinosaur from our national broadcaster who are a consortium of dinosaurs. He’s a charmless man who has no art in him and as such has to just continuously ask him about the usual ‘drink drugs women’ yada yada yada. I think Pete handled it like a gentleman, charming and elegant in his responses despite the idiotic and deeply personal questions being asked of him. It’s a shame because most Irish people couldn’t give a toss about his drug use and are more interested in the man and his art

    I was with Peter and his wife last night in Glasgow back stage, he's very generous with his time, he's kind and great to be about, my friends who I took were all glowing as they left him and Katias presence... he's been clean for four years now and he's on top form, if that guy who interviewed him had asked proper questions he could have had a comedy show as Peter is very funny man with a wealth of stories that would have been entertaining for the audience, instead he went for the tabloid interview which will never be entertaining, couldn't he see that Peter was very perturbed with his line of questioning...no wonder Peter up'd sticks and went to France... he's the only Rock and Roll star as far as I'm concerned from the UK, and a dam good one at that, he has great time for anyone that not the police or journalists...🎶 I doff my cap to Mr Peter Doherty and his beautiful wife Katia...God bless them

    This interview just encapsulates everything I hated when Peter was interviewed in the mid to late 00s. Every interview was like this, quizzing him about his addictions, prison or Kate Moss. Nothing about his music, songwriting, lyrics, inspirations. You can see how frustrated he gets but he handles it so well. The part here where he says he’d rather be known for his songs rather than all of the other tabloid gossip really hurts my heart, because the man has written so many fantastic tunes over the years. I think in recent years he has definitely changed peoples perspectives of him. I’m just glad he’s still with us and seems to have found happiness and stability in his life.

    Well done Pete. For a time in the 2000’s they were the best band about. Mad concerts , word of mouth, then Up The Bracket. What a debut. Proper Raw album that was. Tunes like Horrorshow, Death of the Stairs and the outstanding tune for me Time for Heroes and Boys in The Band. All the Albion Stuff and Babyshambles I liked most of it. Kilamangiro was genius. The Libertines second album was good but over produced in my opinion. Both albums done by Mick Jones. Can’t stand me Now was a tune. The way Pete and Karl are doing vocals together a verse a time or just both join in. “ You shut me down and blamed it on the brown , cornered the boy kicked ………”. Top lyric. Last Post on the Bugle is a tune not forgetting the final record What became of the likely lads. Just finished the album off perfectly. Great band. Two mint albums , debauchery , drug addict , 2 best pals no longer, burglaries , the lot but they and there fans didn’t give a fuck. Last I listened to him was the one he recorded in Normandy during lockdown with Frederic Lo The fantasy life of poetry and crime. Well chilled 👍🏼. A fine album but very different. 'Cause there's always someone, somewhere
    With a big nose, who knows
    And who trips you up and laughs
    When you fall

    It could have been anything, anything other, than what this was… the abyss between life and what others think that life is about has never been so gapingly wide.
