I obviously dont know what happened, neither do you.
For a heroin addict to run from a scene before the cops come is not uncommon behaviour. Not at all.
That doesn't mean he's guilty or had a part in the crime. It means that he didn't want to get locked up and go Cold Turkey in a cell while the police investigated.
I'm sure you dont have any experience with the drug-world but everyone has heard the true stories about junkies draging their dying friend out of their apartment and lay them on the elevatorfloor sending him down to the entrancefloor before calling an ambulance because they doesnt want trouble with the police.
Your conclusion that Pete has to be a evil person with bad intentions is very weak. Judgemental.

Not everyone realises how difficult and how dangerous alcohol addiction is (i do...i did).
Imo it was worse than the stone and the marching powder.
There is still an ongoing conversation to change the wording of the 'drugs and alcohol' test in the work place to 'alchohol and other drugs'. And rightly so.
The hardcore booze drug is so normalised in society, that when you talk to people about the madness of it being available everywhere....people look at you like YOURE the lunatic.
You go into work and say "I'm not feeling the best, had a skinful last night watching the tele"...and people laugh.
You go into work and say "I'm not feeling the best, had a few lines last night watching the tele"....and you're fired.

Alcohol addiction is up there with opiates and benzos, far worse than addiction to any of the other illegal drugs. It also makes people behave far worse than other drugs do, you don’t see people fighting, pissing and puking in the streets due to anything but alcohol. People who claim to be against drugs while swilling that poison irritate me.

This is what drives me nuts about cannabis still being illegal in so many places where alcohol is legal. Yes weed has the potential to trigger psychosis and mental health problems and also smoking anything is bad for you, but when compared to the problems booze can cause both physically and mentally, weed really doesn't deserve the stigma and legal status it still has in so many places. In the UK its almost perfectly acceptable to be in a pub drinking pints on pints and doing lines of gear in the toilet but someone smoking a joint in the park is treated like a low-life and a criminal, partly because it has an offensive smell, but also due to years of a false stigma. Ultimately, adults should be able to do whatever they want with their bodies and not have to fear legal consequences for what they consume as long as they aren't driving, operating machinery or being a nuisance in public (which ironically alcohol is one of the worst ones for and is completely legal!)

I watched the interview and it’s sad as Pete is quite clearly still in active addiction but it’s with alcohol - swapping one addiction for another. And I feel for him because I’m recovering (8 months sober from alcohol now). I think he is a very lost and lonely in his head… such an intelligent guy but with that you can become your own worst enemy. He clearly needs a lot of therapy but I also think he needs to get completely sober from substances so that he can focus on his mental health and wellbeing. He’s in the right place in France away from the partying.

So yeh, still a long way to go, but you can tell he's mentally in a far better place. He's always been articulate, but you can tell from his speech he's much healthier. Let's hope we see him off the booze and nice and trim in the next few years, if only for himself, his new baby and wife.
