- Lyrics
Remember days of yesterday
And how it flew so fast
The two score and a year we had,
I thought would always last
The summer days and west coast dreams,
I wished would never end
A young boy and his father,
Idol and best friend
I'll always remember
Those were the best of times
A lifetime together
I'll never forget
Morning shows on the radio
The case of the missing dog
Lying on the fields at the only twelve
Watching Harold and Maude
Record shops, the stick-ball fields
My home away from home
When we weren't together
The hours on the phone
I'll always remember
Those were the best of times
I'll cherish them forever
The best of times
But then came the call
Our lives changed forever more
You can pray for a change
But prepare for the end
The fleeting winds of time
Flying through each day
All the things I should have done
But time just slipped away
Remember "seize the day"
Life goes by in the blink of an eye
There's so much left to say
These were the best of times
I'll miss these days
Your spirit led my life each day
Thank you for the inspiration
Thank you for the smiles
All the unconditional love
That carried me for miles
It carried me for miles
But most of all thank you for my life
These were the best of times
I'll miss these days
Your spirit led my life each day
My heart is bleeding bad
But I'll be okay
Your spirit guides my life each day - Hudba
This guitar solo is heart touching, insane, technical, masterclass, furious, and perfect, you can hear that his guitar is crying. The best guitar solo of all time. Petrucci is born to play guitar
Isn't it amazing how a guitar played the right way can send a message without any words.
There's no "right" way to play the guitar. It's an art form and guitar playing styles are interpretive depending on the listener.
Well then, John Petrucci is quite the artist. He plays with so much emotion.
The Best.. Auto-Cry
@@odjrvfjdjr3261 no there is a right way... with emotion
That damn guitar solo. So genuine. Made me cry
czcams.com/video/he7WgkbiWwU/video.html
Wait till you see a 16-year-old girl (then) play it! :O
The drummer, Mike Portnoy, wrote this song for his dying father. There's a version floating around on CZcams with Mike himself singing the song.
He was able to play that version for his dad before he passed away
For the people that might not know that version is on spotify as well. Actually prefer Mikes singing since it's alot more heartfelt, to me atleast.
That's right you will never understand the lyrics without understand the origin of it. When my dad dies, Portnoy wrote this song 3 months later, It makes me cry like a baby when a I listen to it!
@@dirtpile i thought they played it at his funeral?
17:24 the realization
18:17 it begins to hit
Welcome to the club, lady. You're now one of us. The ritual is complete.
I was almost ready to shut this one off, honestly. Your markers are correct. At "The Realization" I said 'holy shit, she's getting it'. At "It begins to hit", I wiped the tears from my eyes and pointed at the monitor with both index fingers and said 'ahh HAHHH, GOTCHA!'. Sweetheart, if you continue to do this, you have to track up the lyrics, as well and do NOT read ahead because some songs (if they're written right) will give you true insight and fill in what the music doesn't.
I honestly can't believe it took her so long to realized. My english listening skill is not really good, but even I can tell this song is about a father and son relationship at first listening. It's literally on the first part of the lyrics ("A young boy and his father, an idol and best friend")
Not getting it by 12:34 baffles me.
@@LongandWeirdName she took her time, initially talking about the ex-BF, the plants, the mushroom. But she eventually got there. She has upgraded.
@@LongandWeirdName exactly.. her harmony was good though 😂
I would listen if it was actually in the song
That was the best reaction I ve seen to Petrucci solo. Makes me notice I wasn't the only one :)
First time hearing and she can feel the emotional of that guitar
It was💙💙💙
You’re not the only one bro trust me.. over a decade later it hits me like it always did
@@petrucci973same happen to me
Guitar solo is a technical and emotional masterpiece. May be Petrucci's best ever.
I agree! The best written and played guitar solo that I know. Technically, emotionaly and from sound…
May Day Pet Trust She best eva
Some of JP’s solos are so perfectly balanced they fly on waves of harmonics. Same has second half of Breaking All Illusions
Her best emotion came out at the starting of that masterpiece solo..
I love your reaction to this!
I can't keep my eyes dry no matter how many times I hear this song.
Going to see them live for the 4th time next month !
hell yeah was a good time hearing you react to this band
Gm my beautiful Russian friend. Nice song. Relaxing, love the guitar. The sounds of acoustics, piano.. then it goes mad wild..solo guitar, pounding of drums, remember days of yesterdays.. funny how they all fade away and becomes a distance memory...
Dream theater were very underrated. When I was growing up ppl say they sucked. Well they dont know what good music is about.
Thank you for your reaction. As usual you didn't disappoint. And still being the best person I know who reacts differently.. well be safe out there my friend...
The way you experienced that solo is how I do every time. It tells a story in and of itself. I love it so much
Mike Portnoy, the drummer, wrote this song for his father who was dying of cancer. Luckily, there is a version where Mike is singing, and you can definitely hear the soul in his voice, much better than LaBrie's. It was the final song Mike wrote for the band before leaving not long after her father had passed away. This was his Magnum Opus. He played the hell out of the drums, and then John Petrucci(the guitarist) knocked the song out of the park with the ending solo.
That melody singing you was actually really wonderful. Love it.
Just found your reaction. I love your accent! You have very good musical instincts as you harmonized with the song. Great reaction! Hope you try more Dream Theater.
Your vocal jamming is amazing too haha!
If you want to hear the singer at his greatest, listen to Learning to Live
You have a beautiful voice! 🤘
You had the most sincere reaction to this song similar as me, especially for the solo :)
Was beautiful the vocal arrangement you did in the background! I don´t know if it's possible because of copyright, but it will be amazing to see a full "cover" of this song with your voice, and i will be glad to hear it! Greetings from Mexico!
Privet, this is one of their most beautiful songs, there are many more, but this one is exciting.
And wow your voice is beautiful love it
Lograste entender la emoción y el mensaje detrás del solo final de este tema. Very nice for you my friend :D
The drummer wrote this song for his dad when he found out he had cancer. Such a beautiful, beautiful song.❤
This was written by the drummer, Mike Portnoy, about his father who was dying of cancer. He presented the song at his father's deathbed and he got share his appreciation for him. They both shared tears over it. The song was also played at his father's funeral.
Fantastic reaction. 18:30. Welcome to the world of Dream Theater. I agree with the others. Please react to the live version of Illumination Theory.
Exactly!!! ILLUMINATION THEORY ON BREAKING ON THE FOURTH WALL
I love you react, thanks!!! 🇧🇷
you summed it up really well at the end there. the whole song the singer is talking and telling a story, but the guitar solo sent the actual message much more effectively without words.
🧡🧡🧡
Dream Theater :
Breaking all Illusions, or The Shattered Fortress. Both from Breaking the fourth Wall live concert. Keep the dream alive and let DT touch your soul!

The solo is heart-piercing. Petrucci melts her heart.
Ohh woww how you sing like this your voice and performance is gorgeous!
Love the hair and eye shadow looks good on you.
Any Petrucchi haters should be directed to this video. It's a slap to their face regarding if Petrucchi plays with feel or not.
Did someone claim that Petrucci has no feeling? That’s insane. This solo speaks for itself.
It's cuz the man has a lot of crazy haters watching his every step. Plain jealousy. Obviously that's what happens when you become the best at work.
@@igorlopes7929 I've heard people say that for years, usually from guitarists with fragile egos who try to overplay on every track
Petrucchi is phenominal no doubt but i like eric johnson more
I've never heard of a 'Petrucci hatter's. Are they beings from another galaxy?🤔🤔🤔
Your reaction to the solo is why I'm subbing.
this beautiful solo is a truly SWORD!!!!!
What a beautiful voice...
one of the best solos ever written
I listen so many greatest solo, and for me it is not one of the best. But the best guitar solo of all time
You cried during the final guitar solo. I cried during the final guitar solo.
💋We are on the same page !)
if I were your boyfriend we could cry but above all laugh together 😂
Check The Count Of Tuscany by dream theater.. BUT prepare cause its long
What a beautiful tone you added to the song - it fitted perfectly
That song is too powerful lol, I definitely cried the first time I heard it, and a few times after that 👀
Your harmonizing was impressive. Normally I would just wanna hear the song but I actually liked hearing you sing along.
mi papa fallecio en 1990 cuando tenia 10 años, desde q escuche esta cancion pro primera vez la reaccion a sido siempre la misma, lagrimas, esta cancion es todo lo q esta bien
They are all fantastic musicians but John Myung on Bass is seriously underrated and doesn't get enough love. Octavarium is a Masterpiece. ❤️
Lol no, john myung is not underrated, he is the best!!!
nd everyone knows this
@@daphenomenalz4100 That 'underrated' bandwagon just keeps chugging along doesn't it? It's like Simon Cowell is out there telling everyone their career is shit after 40+ years :) lol
First of all, you're very cute!! Second, loved the video very much, your reaction was so genuine, totally loved it. You definitely should react to "The Spirit Carries On" by them. Such a great song. Such a great Guitar solo. The Outro solo for The Best Of Times is so amazing and melodic, but the solo for The Spirit Carries On is even more melodic! I'm talking about the main solo of The Spirit Carries On, there is also an outro solo which is also amazing
Your expression clearly showed hurt which reflected in your eyes as you reminisced about the past during the beginning of the song!
Yeah.. very clearly
Beginning of solo you mean?
I get goosebumps hearing his guitar solo
One of best of Dream Theater
Your humming skill is unbelievable. I dig it!
Humming skill?))) I’ll add it in my LinkedIn- maybe it will change my carrier )))
@@IYOU I hope so. Have a great life.
Cannot not get emotional.
Watching you holding back your tears made me let go of mine 🦋
People forget the level of emotion that they can actually put into these tracks and although I'm new cause I really am mostly a prog fan outside of a few outliers. It really showed in her reaction and she caught on right away at the end what it was about. Plus I love her jacket and she has an amazing voice too
Liked your Reaction.. Dream Theater is the most talented band ever.. ( its not everyone’s band cuz they make Progressive music but everyone respects and accept their talent and what they have done for Music),.. and the Guitarist JOHN PETRUCCI is a God.. that solo is one of the best in music history.. thanx for sharing and keep rocking 🌸
They were. Till Haken showed up
Ulises Hernandez r u honest?

Yes John petrucci is a great guitar player the drums 👌 good rock 🎸 bass 🔊 vocals all mixed into won perfect song 🎵 the way these guys play is magical the power in these stories into the music 🎶 great power cords on the guitar solos i have seen dreamtheather live on stage a while back 😀
Mi padre falleció hace un mes y aunque ya conocía la canción para mi ha cobrado un gran sentido,no puedo escucharla sin llorar aún así es una de mis canciones favoritas junto a "Spirit carries on "
So..first reaction video I've seen on this channel, and I must say- DT needs to get you to do some backup chorus on their next album lol
Love your reaction to ending solo! Please do The Count of Tuscany next =)
Please, you wont regret it. Last song from same dt album. You will be in tears again :)

Thanks for your reaction to this amazing song! Dream Theater was always my favorite band until Devin Townsend came into my life! Please react to Devin Townsend - Deadhead (Live at Royal Albert Hall)!
The emotional feeling kicking in at the guitar solo was heartbreaking
take way my pain. this song helped me with the passing of my grandmother. live version
You have really stolen the words out of mouth. This solo is so intense . Since you have felt it in your inside...we Saw from your eyes...I would reccomend you to listen to The Spirit Carries On. ps: wonderfull voice
Live version from score
It's father and son. Quite a bond he's sharing.
I am sure you have a special talent to make passionate about everything, looking at your eyes i can feel your passion , listening to your stories i feel the details you notice about every song you can hear to make it yours inside! I started smiling about mushrooms and others crazy boyfriends of the past ( not asshole this time i hope ) , and i ended it up getting interested to listen Dream Theatre with you , a group that i dont like at all i find it boring and long-winded ! But You are really good at making emotions alive telling stories , i think the luckiest person will be' your daughter who has a Mom who tells so many things and emotions 🖤
Thank you Andrea, you make me to think about reaction to Britney) ☮️ I didn’t know about DT much before, but I understand why ppl love them, although I always pay attention to voice of singer, and I feel that it’s too soft for me. 🤷🏻♀️
@@IYOU yes i agree DT i dont like for style sound and voice of the singer ...maybe it would be' nice for me a reaction to Britney 😂! Several songs are very pretty and i guess you would be' able to make it pleasant also to ppl standing here ! Specially usefull for your workout that i'm going to see now , because the streaming is about 7 in the morning italy, i cant watch it in direct 😥
Love DT & i love u
This masterpiece of a song should be heard with headphones on otherwise i like your reaction it is exactly like my own every time i hear it please do more Dream Theater but with headphones on you will get a better sound from it.
Beautiful singing add, great voice
Lost My father three days ago and now i'll try If i can listen to this one.
A lot of people were commenting correctly, this was for the drummer, Mike Portnoy’s father and his father had been sick and passed away around the time this album was recorded...
Mike Portnoy’s mother tragically passed away in a plane crash when he was young, and his family was tighter because of it. That’s what makes this song so sad...and happy at the same time....
They also wrote the song A Change Of Seasons mostly about his mother and about getting older, etc.
most expressive solos guitar a change of seasons, the count of tuscany, the ministry of lost souls. i always crying and i dunno why ;)
This guitar solo is pure wizardry.

2. Transatlantic
3. Spock's Beard
Neal morse a genius man!!
Too preachy for me, can't do it
Hey,
You got it, that song was written by Mike Portnoy (former drummer of the band) for his father who passed away shortly before they recorded this album
The acoustic guitar on the intro always made me think of "still got the blues" by Gary Moore personally ....
Nice vocal improvisation there. Actually the song was written as a tribute by Mike Portnoy for his father “before” he passed away from battling cancer. They are a very theatrical band, so yes I get what you mean about the feel of some sections in their the songs.
Try listening to the Dream Theater song Space Dye Vest from their album AWAKE. l love this band as they present so many colors in their music.
I was in the Supermarket and found a Dream Theatre CD in the cheese section.
@@Ontariosound okay.....and...what are you trying to say?
@@odjrvfjdjr3261 Music that is pompous is often described as cheesy.
@@Ontariosound it ain't easy being cheesy ?
@@Ontariosound so Dream Theater in pompous music?
What do you consider as non-pompous music?
That solo at the end - John Petrucci is one of the best, no doubt about it!
If you'd like there's a 16-year-old girl from France called "Tina S" on CZcams that plays that, if you want to see how it's done.
But there's nothing quite like Dream Theater - amazing songs and instrumentals.
If you want to hear a song by the same writer about his mother, listen to "A Change of Seasons".
Warning, it's twice as long as this song, but absolutely amazing.
You should learn this song and make a vocal cover. There are instrumentals of this here on youtube you can get, and sing under :P
Yes exactly she need to do that i wish listen to her
Great Idea
Yeah one day pls🤘
Styx also did a song with the same name. It was on their Paradise Theater record.
Sei FANTASTICA
I really, really want to hug you throughout the end solo.

Dream Theatre, the song "Home". My Personal favorite, it will not disappoint
Another Day by Dream Theater
from their 2nd Album Images&Words 😎
Try to listen to OCTAVARIUM SONG by DREAM THEATER. Don't skip. you will be amazed too.
Hello dear! Yes the song is very personal, not for his mother just for his father this is a litle history about mike portnoy the dream theater creator and his father in life! He was so smashed about his death and this song is a very inspired deep feeling as a tribute for his father! This song makes me cry remembering my father and his departure of this world!
see you on the road !
The Best of Times is the fifth song on Dream Theater's 10th studio album, Black Clouds & Silver Linings. A tender song written by Mike Portnoy for his dad, as he was dying of cancer. Celebrates Portnoy's relationship with his father. A version featuring Portnoy on vocals can be found on the Wither EP, and was played to Howard Portnoy on his hospital bed and at his funeral.
It has not been played live yet as it was too emotional for Portnoy. Due to the personal nature of the song, it is unlikely to be played live without Portnoy.
John Petrucci recorded this song using a 6-string guitar in standard tuning (E-A-D-G-B-E).
The ex-BF, then the plant and mushrooms, then back to the ex-BF just blew my mind.
No words, man...
You have a soft heart sweety, so cute
The drummer's father had recently passed away. This song is dedicated to him.
ur good reaction lads
JP's guitar solo is paramount i have heard ever!
I think this song's title must be changed.
The best of times -> The best of alltime
First.
You pick up the melody and harmonies exceptionally quick.
If you want another achingly beautiful guitar solo, I recommend Steven Wilson's - Drive Home. Guthrie Govan's solo is astonishing and heartbreaking.
