Yeah, and that's saying something considering the amount of amazing solos JP has done. Almost seems like he put in some extra effort because of the significance of the song.

In my opinion, the final solo by John Petrucci, is the most beautiful guitar solo of all times ... Isn't a sad solo, it is a celebration of life ... I never seen a guitar solo so pure and real !!

My favorite guitar solo of all times and I also think it's the best ever written, how the sections/parts of the solo flow and connect with each other is just beyond incredible. He is literally pouring his soul over that solo. Biased or unbiased it's just perfect in every aspect in my opinion. Petrucci is a genius.

This song gives me chills everytimes I listen to it. There is no perfection, but I do think this song is perfect. This song, just got something more than everything else. You feel every emotion in every part, every notes, every mesure. And right now, I have tears again listening to it haha!

In all my years of listening to rock and progressive rock, (50+ years!) I have never heard such an emotional, lump in throat guitar solo as John Petrucci's in this song. For years, I thought Jan Akkerman's solo in 'Tonmmy' from 'Eruption' on the Focus albim 'Moving Waves' couldn't be beaten for tons of emotion in playing, until I heard this several years ago.
That solo hits HARD every time I hear it and I've been listening to this album since it came out...

The music is beautiful but the vocal melodies are weak. I'd rate this on the bottom half of the album.
I can see that. I think the emotional aspect is what makes it good. On a whole I really liked it. And yes, that solo is pure 🔥
You're right, that's what drags the song down for me. Nothing to see there as far as singing goes. But the music is wow! And THAT solo?!? You gotta be kidding me!
