- This is the complete recording of the filming of James Bond's and Madeleine Swann's arrival at the fictional hotel "Palazzo Lucareschi" in Matera on September 15, 2019 for "No Time to Die". At first there were some rehearsals with the doubles, then they filmed exactly seven times with Daniel Craig and Léa Seydoux.
The filming location is Via Bruno Buozzi at 40.664441, 16.611474.

This cool video gives us a look at the time consuming "process" of filmmaking. Stand-ins first for "blocking" the scene, then having the principal actors do their thing. Take after take, and then again for another camera placement. Then the editors, and director have to go through all the footage to craft the film. No wonder it takes months to edit a movie. And as actors, they need to be prepared to repeat the same action take after take....until the director has the shot that he or she needs. This really is a rare behind-the-scenes look at not only a Bond film, but for any film.
Must be so difficult for the actor to get out of the car and walk up a few steps. Doing that several times, damn, I bet heart surgeons have it easier. I can't believe actors must go through this process multiple times. Only a few people in the world can possess such a talent, get out of the car and walk a few steps, doing this several times. Wow, I'm amazed there are people who can do that. Must be such a difficult job.

@@waynehazle I agree, yes tedious, but can be strenuous as well. As an example, after Cruise broke his ankle jumping between buildings filming MI 6, he still had to complete many high speed running scenes. In an interview after the film's release, Cruise told a reporter that he devised a strategy with the director to basically get the remaining shots in one take....and ONLY one take, or else. Craig fractured his ankle during a running scene in Jamaica while filming No Time To Die. He apparently was back at it after a couple of weeks. Good thing too, considering how much production costs can go up if the star goes down as a result of an injury. Tedious for sure, but there's alot of money at stake.

Mark Sieve and in my favorite movie of all time, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Harrison Ford injured his back middle of the shoot and they had to work around him for weeks. You can see all the sections with the stunt double and then they just inserted him later
As someone who has directed a number of large musicals in the world of amateur theatre it is always fascinating to watch things come together and how blocking changes from initial rehearsal to final production. I direct in a way that allows actors to try what they feel comes naturally to them and I find this makes for a more realistic look, and sometimes it takes a number of times for them to “feel” it. In this video Lea gets out the car when Craig opens the door then proceeds to go around the front of the car, in my director head that made on sense and I would always challenge the actors to think why did you go that way?
Also if you let live stage actors go with what they understand and are naturally comfortable with, they are more likely to repeat (or set) their performance that way, when there are a million and one new things happening on stage (prop movements, set changes, modified exits and entrances, listening for musical cues, blocking variations from that rehearsed, costumes, etc.) during the last few days of rehearsal and the first few shows.

I believe they ended up using the one at 5:24 minus the sounds of the bell in the background of course, nicely edited out.

@@nithincs They're not filming, it's a camera rehearsal so they use stand-ins. They never have A-listers stand around for lighting and camera tests (They're too expensive) so they bring in the stand-ins so that when the cast is in they can roll and not waste time.

They did not use taking and carrying luggage out of the car...In the end, it's not the two guys who carry the luggage, but their older colleague who greets the couple. :)
Now I want to go and see the movie again and see what they finally used since I have seen so many takes of this scene, lol.
