  • *This video is part of an ongoing effort to catalog my favorite shows in the highest sound quality possible (ie, no cassette generations, no mp3 compression). To the best of my knowledge, each recording is the clearest available version. Some recordings may be "Matrix" (a mix of soundboard and audience taping). Files have also been combined so that transitions between songs are seamless. All recording info has been copied from etree.org.*

.shn and .md5 created by Mike Hall (myko@well.com)
    From Jim Powell:
"OK, I just got the master of the DeadLists Edition of Roosevelt Stadium, Jersey City 8/6/74: a digital copy of the master SBD reels with the 20 second flip cut in Scarlet Begonias patched with an excellent AUD master.
    .....
We owe thanks especially to Hugh Barroll, who passed along CDs of a digital copy of the master SBD; to Ihor Slabicky, who supplied a copy of his AUD master of the show; and to Dave Greenberg, who used Soundforge to patch the tape flip in Scarlet Begonias on the SBD and produce our masters. Noah Weiner also helped with the project, forwarding a copy of
    Barry Glassberg's AUD master."
"The lineage of this copy of 8/6/74 is MR ... DAT ... CDs. It is the entire show, uncut, including Seastones (and the encore). The flip chop in Scarlet is expertly patched with excellent AUD. It very markedly upgrades the copy that came around a year or so ago, as well as all other circulating copies. Until and unless they
release this as a Dick's Picks, and do as good or better a job than we have with the patch, this is the ultimate copy of this alltime great show, hands down, no shit."
    .....
More work was done on this by David Gans using Sonic Solutions. A digital copy of Ihor Slabicky's tape and the cd's from Dave Greenberg were used to further patch the reel flips in Eyes of the World and Truckin'. David also edited the reel starts and stops between songs. Nothing that was said was removed. What we have here is the FINAL copy of this, my first show, to be
    circulated!

    Audience patch info:
    MR...R...HD...Soundforge...SHN...CD
Recorded by Neil Merin using an unknown mic (mono) onto a
Uhrer 5" reel deck. Neil's batteries were showing signs of failing in set two so he tried to conserve power by not taping a few mid set songs. Even so, by the end of Truckin' the recording tape speed slowed and thus the playback pitch rises.
The end of the show plus other missing parts from Neil's tapes
are supplied by Ihor Slabicky's recording (AUD MC...DAT...HD...
Soundforge...SHN...CD). Ihor recorded with AKG d190e mics onto a Sony TC-152sd deck. The use of Ihor's master is indicated with an asterisk (*).
Analog to digital transfers done by Noah Weiner.

Listening to this only confirms that Phil Lesh's influence on this music was very powerful. There has never been a better rock bass player.

absolute sick 74 sets of celestial slop, and the dead machine engine just gleams once again taking you places you had no idea existed. This show will remind you why you've been listening all these years or if you've just recently caught the wave why you can't stop listening since Jerry deadtized your soul, Cowboy Neil is definitely at the wheel on this one, The sound quality makes it a monster, you need a sound system from area51 to plug this into, every note from every instrument in every song has been perfectly placed , it's just that rock solid good, you can even hear the insane dead show chatter under the music sometimes taking you back putting you right there inside the show with the baddest band on earth, singing, thank you!...for a real good time.

Got into the Dead at 13. Going on 65. Soundtrack of my life. Saw the 76 Roosevelt show. This one is real good as well.

Fun trivia fact: When Bob says "that wasn't the only news that came out today," he is referring to a meeting that president Nixon had that very day with the top Republicans in Congress and the Senate. In this meeting, they urged him to resign, which he did on August 9, due to the unfolding Watergate scandal.

I've loved the dead since May the sixth , 1967 when coming back from UC Med on that Sunday after visiting my wife Billie and our daughter Greta , both still in the hospital for one more day , our daughter was born two days earlier on Friday May 4th , 1967 . I am about to take the 6 or 7 electric trolley bus downtown , going home to our apartment on Pine St. near Taylor . I'm on Haight St. and Masonic and hearing music in the distance , I ask somebody if they know who's playing , told 't'was the Grateful Dead over in the panhandle . I walked over and was blown away by their sound . They played a considerably different sort of rock than any other of the amazing bands of that iconic time . To me , they sounded oh say more mature kinda more adult like than others . I loved it . I'd just bought a camera the day before to take pictures of our new member of the family so I took a few pictures of ' the good ole'Grateful Dead as I later thought of them . Two months later my wife and I went and saw them at the Straight Theater , we both were blown away . Those two times in seeing them , the two of us had never yet been stoned and the Dead were astounding ! Now back to the Panhandle on May the sixth . While hearing the Grateful Dead I talked to a guy who was one of the two funny men and I got to see them a lot at shows doing there comedy between musical sets . They were called the Congress of Wonders . He pointed out some longhairs behind us standing beside a VW bus . He said that they were . the Quicksilver Messenger Service... 'Man alive' , those were 'far out' times...

Boy, what different take on "Bertha", Billy totally set this pace and playing and Phil drops right with his playing to funk it up, totally different from SkullF*ed album.

What a way to spend a Sunday afternoon. (~);} When you shine your light you are constantly giving others permission to shine theirs. Use the energy of this music to fuel you through life and remember all of the good it has brought you. We are all so lucky to have this
