The near religious commitment by The Dead to record thousands of shows on soundboard has, in my opinion, turned out to be one of the greatest acts of foresight in human history. Forever Grateful.
Amen
amen and hallelujah! imagine tho, if u will, it was all full color vid ... oh well, life would be too good lol
It is religious. And probably will and should be a religion... if anyone can build a cannon.
cannon, dogma, or other rules to live by... I'm sure we would all love to hear it and then do our own thing anyway. Grateful Dead is a religion that rivals any of the others in that there is no idolatry or worship of an icon -- yet there are songs that allow people to meditate on them as a form of worship. That worship is simultaneous of the event, the mass worship, and as preserved, exists for us to also experience and commune by following the journey the music sets forward for us. *maybe someone can express this more eloquently than me.
that we are all chasing and
followers of Grateful Dead
Must've been a thrill to be here. With NRPS AND Walon Jennings as opening acts.
Grateful Dead playing 3 sets on a beautiful afternoon 30+ tunes
50 years ago 👏 Listening today: 5-26-2023⚡🌹
My first show in NYC was NRPS with Waylon warming up, 74 at The Academy of Music, 14th and 3rd Street!!!
I’m 51 years of age and I just became a fan three months ago. It has helped me get through the craziness that was 2020. When I see the stories of fans that say I was at that show it makes me feel sad that I missed a chance to experience the love. I don’t even know if Dead and Company is still a thing. That would be okay but you guys that got to experience Jerry G are truly blessed. I won’t say I’m envious or jealous but I feel an empty feeling knowing it will never happen for me. I live vicariously through Dead Heads who post stories on Facebook. I’d love to meet some of you guys. I could sit down and listen to the music and stories. I’d love to go to a festival of GD fans and just be a fly on the wall. You all sound like good people with great stories.
@We'llsee1969, I'm just a few years older than you (54) but didn't get on the bus until sometime around '83. I, too, live vicariously thru the Heads here who share their stories of the shows in the earlier years...wish i could have been there. Met a patient Head freshman year at college who was a trader and who enjoyed educating me as long as I supplied the Maxells! So this internet thing, which gives us almost unlimited access to the Dead's recorded concert history, is a gold mine to which i return daily. Thank you Wall of Sound for your generosity in sharing these amazing performances.
You ARE one of Brother. Jerry and the boys didn’t just play to a crowd. If you listen close, they’re playing to you personally. It a very beautiful Deal. Stay cool Brother. 🤟
@@jodysherman2447 You got it straight Jody, they played to us all and the magic is right here in the music. All you need is that open mind and time to LISTEN and you'll HEAR it and FEEL it!
hey man ifirst saw them in 74 and i still feel that sad/empty feeling sometimes knowing they played many shows could've been at near me , its an odd sensation no doubt, cuz on the other hand we have - all this music - anyway be glad u found it , better late than neverland
Better late than never!!
Suffering from a bit of depression and some anxiety this just melts away the Blues just what the doctor ordered.
You are the best of you.
Amen. Me too. Hope you have more good days. I’ve learned to really appreciate good days. The music blesses me.
Me too. It's the only way too calm this sad, sad heart of mine. The Dead saved my life on all levels...
right on brother!
“Radical Acceptance” brother. Google it.
The "He's Gone" into "Truckin" Proves there is a Heaven! R.I.P Ron!
Absolutely my friend👍👍👍👍👍✌✌✌✌✌🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I remember Jerry and Buddy Cage sharing a joint and marvelling at Ralph Mooney's pedal steel playing during Waylon's set
Wow!!
Thanks for sharing your memory.
That is the shnibz.
Pick it moon!
I was there and saw the same thing. Waylon took everyone by surprise. Great show!
1973/74 Dead = peak Dead. Keith was on fire, no heroin for Jer, LSD still dominated the crew instead of coke later, jazzy jams, epic PITBs and EOTWs and 3 set shows like this! I just wish I could have been alive then! Thank you for posting this.
Love the '73 Dead. My first Dead concert was two weeks later, 6/10/73 RFK stadium. It was another 3 set, 4 hour concert, with Dicky Betts and Merle Saunders joining for the 3rd set. Morning Dew was the opener.
Feel that. So happy that people recorded all of this
Let's be honest LSD always dominated the Dead, no matter how much blow or H you do psychedelics will always overpower it. Although there was a "battle" between the trippers and cokeheads backstage that culminated in everyone on stage getting dosed during the performance for the Grateful Dead movie. Never once was there a battle between the drugs. A battle WITH the drugs, sure.
But yeah this was probably them at their best despite the cocaine use (which started in 72 and was supposedly at its worst in Europe 73 when they accidentally invented crack)
Grateful Dead = LSD 25
Promised Land, Deal, Jack Straw, Tennessee Jed, The Race is On, Sugaree, Mexicali Blues, Row Jimmy, Looks Like Rain, They Love Each Other, Playin' In The Band Here Comes Sunshine, El Paso, Loser, Beat It On Down The Line, You Ain't Woman Enough, Box Of Rain, China Cat Sunflower-> I Know You Rider, Big River, Bertha, Around & Around Mississippi Half Step, Me & My Uncle, He's Gone-> Truckin'-> The Other One-> Eyes Of The World-> China Doll, Sugar Magnolia
Thank you. Now I don't have to play the guessing game, although that can be fun!
I just have to figure out the times they're being played.
I'm listening to the show now and marking the times as I go check the first comment later today, should be all finished
No need really. We can figure it out as we go along. . .😀
Four hours of music. No Drums>Space. Bang for your buck.
this is a remarkably clean and well mixed recording and great performance by the band. outstanding, actually.
Yes it is 👍👍👍👍👍✌✌✌✌✌🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
absolutely amazing...
Yes! Somebody turned up Bobby! Keith comes through clearly too
Had this in cassette back in the day. Three sets! Yowzers.
Kezar Stadium, SF, CA
G.D. is American treasure! 💖
Quite literally actually, Truckin' is a National Treasure!
Bullshit. They are a galactic treasure, beyond any imaginable borders...
Jerry conversing with the crowd, with a "Thank you" or two. That takes me back. Times were easier for him back then. Great to hear. Thanks.
This stuff puts me right back there THANK YOU SOUND MAKES IT
China Doll is just so beautiful the line "pick up your China Doll, Just a little nervous from the fall" so beautiful
Never have I felt 20 (or so) years younger...thank you for this recording.
The Grateful Dead at their very best!
You bet ya 🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊✌✌✌✌✌👍👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
YES!!👍
those vocals in that row jimmy were too beautiful. incredible show overall
Amazing. Thank you 😊 💓
The thing that this picture shows me is one of the things I most remember about Dead shows...diversity! we were all family!! Thank you Wall Of Sound for the amazing recordings. I would love to find my Bday show...12/30/71 if anybody has it.
Can I live vicariously through you
Such a powerful Looks Like Rain
Now THIS is a Dead Show 3 sets. 31 songs 4 hours of Music. No other band ever did anything even remotely close to this. A true American Treasure.
Thank you.
The E street band did for many many years
Nice mix. Jerry's guitar is right out front. Awesome.
One of my favorite shows!! Thanks for posting this classic!!🍄👍 great sound.!!
We Love each other!!!! LORD! you can see that its true... We Love each other. Peace N Love
Love is all we have ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Hello Rosebud!, Great tunes! CS🌹
💧👅😎💥
Thanks for this. ❤️
Not only is this one of my all-time favorite shows but this is such a great quality recording. Thank you Wall of Sound!
the wall of sound was not in use at this time. they had a couple tests in 73 but the official wall of sound didn't debut until early 1974. unless of course you were just thanking the poster.
If this is the case then I would expect you'd know where it is from; since very disappointingly the poster neither provided that essential information, nor a song list? Thank you kindly! I don't have deadbase handy although I suppose I could try the archive, I guess that's my next stop. You see I know they routinely play incredibly long 1st sets and as long or long 2nd sets as later on or even 3rd sets in '73; however even given this this recording being over 4 hours long I'd really like to know what it consists of before listening to the whole thing, since the only show I know of, of such a length is such only when one counts the opening set backing up Joan Baez =~ 4hours& 10 minutes not including the breaks of course on New Year's '81-'82 at Oakland Aud. for which I swiped a 5-day backstage on the 5the day while mopping the stage-left hallway (the one that caved it short there after so they closed it for repairs and renamed it to Henry J. Kaiser center) in order to get in for free! Augy, San Diego
@@jkoz8821 I think he may be referring to the uploader channels name 'Wall of Sound' =) thanks for the info
Are you really sure he wasn't thanking the P.A. system?
@@yguaray enjoy
I played this on my phone while trippin on mushrooms, great trip but it took me ages to find this soundboard again cause I thought it was a video of the band playing whenever I looked at my phone, haha.
The only way I was able to confirm it was I remembered a few of the comments
This makes me happy. I just went and disputed all the copyright claims on this. Next time you can listen to a psilocybin-soaked Eyes of the World without being interrupted by a shampoo commercial
@@WallofSound65 And, that my friend is right on. Your efforts are gratefully appreciated!
Man, I can't extend enough thanks to Wall of Sound for all the AMAZING soundboard boots on this channel. Really generous of you to share these for all to enjoy. And what a great pic of Garcia smiling.
Check out etree
Thanks and happy trails...
I was there. What a great day.
You my friend are a lucky man.
I never saw you there......
Man these shows are incredible,I had a friend (deadhead ) and those freaking bootlegs he kept jamming into my cassette player ,omg!! Now if the sound quality had been like this I would’ve been running up and down the east coast with him instead of listening to all those cool stories!! 🙏❤️WOS
This is a real treasure. I am so glad that it is preserved for the future.
Beautiful...thankyou for posting...✌
grate sound, grate playing, grate set, very grateful for the post!!
Love this time in GD history. New tunes new line up. so raw so energetic
They can say what they want about Donna, but imo that was the start of the best Grateful Dead years ever with 72-74 the very very best.
That's how my pretty ears hear it
A Gem, thank you for sharing!!!!! Fantastic.
thank you
this is a monster show. got this show on tape.
Me too!!
Sound is truly "chef's kiss"!
Great sound and set, thanks Wall of Sound. Was 6 and nobody was taking me to any Dead shows that's for dead sure. Million thanks for making me feel like I got to see them, so thankful the Dead let anyone record them. So glad you guys who did it, did it. Thanks thanks thanks. Love you all and of course, RIP Jerry, love the stuff you left behind.
I was 6 here, too (and not there, either)!
I was four guys. It’s amazing.
After all of these years I found my favorite version of Sugaree. Thank you!!!
Me too - I think it's the bass that really makes this.
Shoot, now I've gotta skip ahead
You were not wrong friend
Wonderful performance!
Always one of my favorite tapes, but incomplete. Glad I found the whole show here!
The one drummer era was truly the best.
I disagree
I agree , bill swinging like a mad man. This is the show Waylon Jennings opened for them right? Must be one of my all favorites mustabeen shows together with Bruce springsteen and bob Marley in Max’s Kansas City also in 73
Totally agree
that the Bill Alone Years are the best. Two drummers = a pair of sneakers in the dryer ...
I also agree 100 %. They could turn on a dime with one drummer. When you got Billy K holding it together in the back line you don't need no one else
Agree, Billy was king, Micky more like a funky percussionist, slowed the transitions way down
Excellent sound quality
Crisp, we'll created, and an EXCELLENT SHOW !
This is my B-Day Show. Really hyped about it. 2nd time listening to it
with great clarity....the GD and Jerry Garcia were a gift of all time!
Sounds great. It's almost CHRISTMAS... So too all my fellow DEADHEAD brothers and sisters... Merry DEADMAS!!!
Tom Wayne
Have a very Jerry PhishMas and a Hippy New Weir!!
ASTOUNDING QUALITY AND GRATEFULNESS!
This is my D.O.B. show. I listen to it a few times every year in May.
Same here brother. Let the good times roll.
Awesomeness 🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊✌✌🐊✌😭😭
This is SUCH a GREAT BOARD and concert!
Awesomeness at its best!!!Thank you 🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊✌✌✌✌✌👍🐘👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
wow. thanks, majr grateful.
this is so majestic
Thanks, WOS!
Thank you =)
you are very kind WALL OF SOUND!
What a grateful way to start the weekend🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊✌✌✌✌✌👍👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Just found this and as an 80's kid, hearing about this from my parents, this is amazing to listen to.
Killer show!
so much good stuff
I had a cassette of some of this show. Never lnew how amazing the first two sets were until i listened now. Fantastic show. I didn't realize this was Kezar stadium until i heard the Phil solo, then i thought "i know this show! It's Kezar 73"
after being immersed in the incredible shows from spring of 69' most recently - this show is sounding better than i could have imagined - to hear Jer tell the crowd at the stadium it's really nice to be out here' - can't think of a better possible scenario for a show from he and the band …
Bobby's guitar is delightfully brought forward in this presentation.
Thank you. Eyes into China Doll nice treat!
Really stunning versions of both. Wow.
Very sweet
Thanks W.O.S. for another great show to enjoy. The quality is unbelievable! 👍
DOPE ass SHOW
The Grateful Dead saved my soul 5/2/19. Wish I could've been to an actual concert.
It was like being transported back in time. Hard to describe. Similar to trying to explain to somebody what it's like to listen to the Grateful Dead on acid.
I feel the same way. I was lost and was found in November of 2020. I’ve heard their music my whole life but I just fell in love. The misery of the past months has been lifted.
@@mikeyj.3605 Even if you didn't does out ,so many people did and they'd swet out their chems into the air from dancing ,so just breathing could pass on a mild acid high
@@steveh7682 little poetic license is ok
Was lucky enough to have attended this show. The bill was the Dead, Waylon Jennings and the New Riders (with Jerry). I love hearing this show again. Thanks to whomever provided it.
Steve Marinucci Beatles news I was there.. Beautiful day, shared food and lots of stuff passed around. Great memory.🌹
Me too....
Never heard Waylon Jennings before. I remember Jerry and Buddy Cage sharing a joint on the stage and marveling at Ralph Mooney's pedal steel playing during Waylon's set
IIRC this was the first show in SF after Pigpen's death tears during 'He's Gone'
I was there. Jerry did NOT play with NRPS.
Jerry was no playing w New Riders In 73 I doubt unless SF fans got double pedal steel w Riders set anyone know
Holy Christ on the Cross, this is AMAZING!!!
Almost like being there thanks for sharing........
Won't you lay your head upon your Savior's breast
Jerry loves you, but Jesus love you the best
And the Dead bid you goodnight, goodnight, goodnight
‘73 TLEO’s just make me happy. Thanks for posting!
Amazing that they used to play for so long! We were so spoiled!
Wow. Wall of Sound ! What I'd give to go back in time n hear THAT system. I was around, but still a tyke.
This is not the sound system known as the "Wall of Sound" That setup, designed by Owsley, doesn't come into being till March of '74. This is however a killer sound & recording!!!
Just finished listening to the Good ol’ Grateful Dead podcast episode about this show , what an epic day must have been. Thanks for this monster show
Wow! What a great time. The boys sound so good and confident. That '72 - '74 era was special! They had so many tunes to play with. R.I.P. Ron "Pigpen" McKernan
I’m sitting here, in Seoul Korea, after months of corona-quarantine, with this concert playing on my palms, on my iPhone watching this on youtube - and the vibrations are turning me inside out! Fucking love it all ~
Oh yea great show indeed!
⚡️💀🌹
Going to a Dead show was something more than just going to a concert to hear a rock n roll band . It was like going on an adventure into an alternative reality in another dimension.
Saw the Dead at Nassau coliseum 2 months earlier. They were incredible during this time period. On top of their game for sure.
Nassau coliseum just opened that year and the GD were the first band to play there spring of 73. It was general admission Bill Graham show. My ticket was $6.50
GRATITUDE TO WALLOF SOUND! TIME STANDS STILL GOOD OLD GRATEFUL DEAD!!!!!
Hi John Do u speak Wolof. You mu have been in the Peace Corps in the 70s and sent to The Gambia as a Teacher?
FOUR HOURS OF JOY!!
I listen to these Dead songs and i am still in awe. The Dead could be very well the best live band ever.
I wore this tape out, and still find little nuiances' of fascination in it!
exquisite !! 🏅⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Love the tempo that TLEO is done at. Plus the bridge is a bonus.
✨✌️💒🚌💨💨💨✨
I love how Bobby's guitar is in the left channel. He's a better guitarist than I realized!!! Thanks for sharing
When I was at the gigs I never understood the amateur recording zones..... Now it is understood and I find it fully fascinating as uploads countinue. There could be a 2 hour documentary on Dark Star alone.... Amazing Amazing Amazing
This isn't taken from an amateur recording, not from a tape made in the audience, it comes straight from the soundboard.
I think this one is pretty good. I melted
Awesome dudes. I heard them in person...Bay area, Cali
love the TLEO
Wooow 73' all the way and a three setter only time i caught one of those was the year before july 72 in jersey at Roosevelt stadium 5 and a half hours unreal!!.. after this Kezar show they cam right back to us on the east coast for the runs in DC RFK with the Allmans and of course Watkins 600K Glen sandwiched in we caught Jerry with Old and in the Way that june what a freakin year!!
Roosevelt 72 my first show ; 3 sets & fireworks for each drivin that train 😂 must have been 10 drivin that train. Hopefully you'll will support the GREAT CHAIN tour ? No chemtrails sprayed everywhere no vaccines & throw Bill & Melinda Gates off the golden gate bridge please Mr ORANGE President
Another beauty from Wall of Sound, damn. Right between Europe 72 and GD Movie sonically. Small wall gator.
how sweet it was
🔥
Waylon opened the show! Are you kidding? Amazing 😊
Loretta Lynn, I have heard the dead do it all!! Awesome.
Ha ha...never heard that before... Almost wrecked my truck...That, the Race is On... It's a freaking ho-down....!!!
👍
God bless the Grateful Dead
A FUCKIN MEN
you said it brother
The Grateful Dead's music saved my soul and I"ll be eternally grateful
when I read this a voice in my head whispered
"been there. done that. didn't you notice?"
I'm on the fence between agnostic and atheist, so I'm not up on these things, but
I'm not God, so
I gotta wonder now if that was The Voice Of God I heard whispering inside
someone or something sure blessed them folk, and it wasn't just their friendly neighborhood Bear
The Row Jimmy is simply perfect. The vocals are supreme. Keith is present and loud. 🙌
And the looks like rain right after 🤌
Great show, highlights for me was Jerry’s slide solo on Box Of Rain, China/Rider, China Doll🥀
