- So despite the British Autumn so far being wetter than an otters pocket, I had a few small windows of dryness to bring you this review of the base model Indian FTR1200....so did it tug on my heartstrings?

Nice review. It looks really good and they deserve to sell a lot of them. The tyres are a bummer. I think most people would have to change them immediately at extra cost. I know I would. The two 'more expensive' versions have the much nicer paint but the entry level bike is probably the pick of the bunch.

I like how they kept it understated. BTW 1203cc is how big Harley-Davidson's 1200 Sportster is. I like basic myself.
I would probably do two mods Tires yes and I would get the kit that moves the rear signals up to the tail like Sport Bikes.
I tested this bike awhile back myself, just a demo ride, no long term like you I was impressed.
Before Polaris pulled the Victory Line they had a model called the Octane and it had a version of this engine, I test rode that and almost traded in my Iron 883 for one, only I was paying on it owed too much on it, I still have that Iron 883.

Thanks Donald, I agree they've done a good job with it. The tracker seat option looks good too, particularly with a tail tidy

Ha, true though, I did the same journey on both bikes and my butt starting complaining sooner on the Tiger
I agree with you regarding the round speedometer vs the upgraded rectangular display. When I looked at these side by side in the Indian showroom, I thought the round Speedo looked the part much better than the rectangular screen. Of course, I’m old, so more partial to analog looking equipment rather than digital. Maybe younger riders like their Speedo’s looking like game screens.

Looks so much better without the digital dash. This is the model to get imo, plus the money you save can go for a full exhaust and aftermarket parts. The tires are a big fail however and you will be stuck buying a new set which is a bummer.

The demonstrator I rode had pirellis which were great. I was thinking the better suspension/rider aids etc on the s was worth the extra, I did enjoy the sport mode 😀

This is not fair... Either I'm a complete newbie or the analog meter has info the lcd does not...
I have the lcd display and I can't see voltage or average/current fuel consumption..
Is there some hidden menu on the lcd that someone can tell me about or is it just that the analog display is better?

It's been awhile since you've made this, so if you don't remember that is cool. Did you stand on the pegs at all during the ride? If so, was it comfortable? What was the wind like on a long ride, would you recommend a wind screen? Thanks! Great video.
Cheers. I do remember standing on the pegs, you can do it but you wouldn’t want to go it for long (or really need to). Wind like any other naked bike, although not too bad with the slightly canted forward riding position. A fly screen will always aid a little bit on long journeys
The only downside of looking for more "road biased" tires is that there is not a very large choice of street 19" tires. I've looked.
Thats true, you tend to be stuck with the choices for big adventure tourers
I am looking at this and the Bobber, but at 60, 6 ft with 34 inseam, I am concerned with leg position on FTR being to sport bike like, any input?
It could be, ive got a 32 inch inseam and it was OK, in fact pretty comfortable on long journeys

What camera arm did you use for that side shot? I've almost lost a cam like that on my channel;) cool video cool bike.
All shot on a GoPro hero 7, most of the side shots were mounted on a Manfrotto Magic Arm
Sounds like you were well taken with Mr Man Cave, if I were doing a trip to oooooh maybe Normandy with half a dozen mates do you think it would cut the mustard?
Ha! it did surprise me. Yes, I think it would cope admirably with that trip, probably best around early June though I would say ;)
Doubting people will use this bike on dirt its like doubting I'll use a sport bike to take curves

Indian FTR VS Triumph Speed Twin? Which one would you choose?
I was expecting this question to come up, and i'm still thinking about it. Yuo get more for your money with the Speed Twin, but this would be a decision you would make with your heart not your head. The Indian is more than the sum of it parts....although thats not really answered your question has it?

Which one do you think is more reliable Triumph speed twin or Indian Ftr?
I haven’t seen enough anecdotal evidence that would suggest which one is more reliable. Modern bikes tend to have very few problems and both bikes seem to be well engineered and finished

In the UK they retail at £11,900 on the road, more expensive than the Speed Twin and cheaper than the RnineT, which I guess are kind of in its 'sector'? It appears to be well built though

how efficient is the weather protection? especially from the rear tire? thank you!
The front mudguard does a decent job, but the rear not so much. If you ride it in the wet, you will get a damp back. That’s certainly my experience.

Funny you should mention that, I’ve now got a scrambler 1200 for a couple of weeks, so I can get the Tiger up on the ramp 👍

'Bubba' Myers completed a 1 Mile Wheelie at 131.137mph on the FTR1200S if that answers the question?
What is that number plate bracket like.? Winkers on the bracket low down. Spoils the bike. IMO. Bloody ugly. I’m sure a nicer athsetically pleasing set up can be found. Tiny winkers on the suspension hangers, number plate and tail tidy under the seat or side mounted number plate. That’s all I can find that I would sort. Cheers Tony👍🏻🏍

The problem with the stock exhausts is they are ugly. Noise from the tyres wouldn't bother me. As long as they grip.
I'd go with the stock bike, too. The cost would be the main thing, but I have no need for rider modes or traction control, and the TFT screen on the more expensive model is hideous.
Yep, they are not beauties for sure, something smaller would look much better. Its not the noise from the tyres, its the actual vibration they radiate through the bike. Ok in the dry, not particularly confidence inspiring on wet tarmac. Agree, bas model for me all the way

Yep, its not cheap for a 'base' model, but its well put together

Thought I recognised some of your route. I am at Felixstowe, but know the A140 and KrazyHorse at Bury St Edmunds, the Indian dealers. Favourite Saturday morning destination.

Yes I love my FTR 1200 I wanted a stripped down bike and didn’t care about the gadgets or ride modes.

Just a question, how are the service schedules and costs for service compared to other manufacturers?
@@WozzasSportsCruiserRides The factory recommend a service every 5000 miles, so for the majority of owners that'll be an annual service I guess. Pretty much in line with most modern bikes. initial service about £150, and the same for 5k service. 10k is about £300 as its airfilter and brake fluid change, the 20k (if you get there) involves valve clearances, so will be a bit more

Very good power and tq numbers, the weight is a NO-GO. A lardassed pig. Should of been 400 lbs or less.
I must admit I din't really think the weight was an issue

Seriously tho, any of the flat track racers are more than capable. My dl100 could have easily been stripped down to 430 or less. Some carbon and less bling , a simple dash. done.
