I am definitely not a trained hair cutter....but my wife desperately wanted her very thick hair thinned....we don't have a lot of money right now so I watched your video and thinned her hair for her birthday! She LOVED it! I made a whole spa day for her...hair cut, face mask, bubble bath, the works! Now I can do her hair with confidence!!! Thank YOU!!!!
That’s so awesome! I love it…Happy birthday from me too! 😊🥳
Marriage Goals! My stepdad helps my mom to color her hair and I think it’s just the sweetest. May God bless you both 🙏
That's so sweet
I got the asian bowl hair cut at home by my mom for tge longest time. We were poor and she couldn't afford to pay around $15 - $20 per kid ( family of 3 boys ) every 2 - 3 weeks.
To me it doesn't seem much but I grew older that extra $120 ish bucks / month makes a slight difference, it can go towards a week of grocery or small little home bills.
Now a days, you can do must things at home, won't be tge best work as a pro but passable for a decent job .
This comment made my day
When you whacked her head back on the stand I lost it 🤣🤣🤣
It’s at 1:38
Same, I was a bit terrified 😶 🤣
And do that with the customer...🤣
Oh my! Lmao🤣
That was brutal 😢😢😢
Lll
1:39 this is a pro tip when dealing with annoying costumers
😆
😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
😄😄I burst out laughing when you pounded the head so very casually yet with one giant WOMP. I actually imagined you doing it to a client .... just to keep them in line. 😅 I so needed a laugh cuz the place I am holding right now is so very serious. Enjoy your day
🤣 So glad I helped you smile! We all need to take things less seriously...don't you thing? Those doll heads don't like to sit still...they make terrible clients. 😉
Same I SCREAMED 😂
Me Too! So funny! Omg! Haha!
😂😂😂😂
Me too! Hilarious 😂

I'm just thinning a cheap synthetic wig, but THIS IS THE BEST THINNING VIDEO on youtube!! thank you!
Thanks! Glad it’s helpful. 😀
This was so helpful! I have thick hair and my recent haircut made it look very “choppy” when I initially wanted layers.
i swear this was the best video i have ever watched when it comes to explanation on where and why to thin hair. i’m less than a year out from school and de-bulking hair is something that still makes me nervous because i don’t want to mess it up! thank you 🙏🏻
So glad this helps! Thanks for watching. Let me know if there’s anything else you’d need.
Omg im so grateful for you posting this! I almost went straight to the root with the thinning shears😱 Thank you!🌻
This made so much sense!! Thank you!!
I got a hair cutting kit on Amazon with the regular hair scissors, thinning shears, the cape (as I call it) 😂, hair clips, a cleaning brush, combs, and a bag to travel with it; it was literally less than $15 and it works amazing I love the clippers
I love how she explained it ❤❤
Thanks for your advice.
Thank you so much! I really needed this today❤
Thank you!
Thank you for thorough video ! I have very thick asian hair and it's very hot during summer.. salon these days are too expensive.. im going to try this method at home
Very helpful, thank you!
Exact tips that I needed to thin out the ends of my hair a little more after getting a haircut! I like the ends of my hair to have more movement & look like it grew out like that & not to look like it just got cut. Great instructions! I'm a new fan!
Great to hear! Thanks for watching!! 😊
Very helpful! Thank you !❤
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
Thank you great tips appreciate your help ❤
Thank you for teaching me how to use the thinning shears properly. I tried it today, it is such a vast improvement than the last time I used it incorrectly.
That’s awesome! Thanks for watching!! 😊
Thank you for making this video. I was on chemo for a while. Unfortunately, it took a toll on my natural hair. However, I purchased a wig (not a cheap one) and it was too thick which made it look fake. Taking a wig to have styled (cut) is very expensive. I used your technique and it came out fabulous. It now looks like a normal thickness of hair. I appreciate the help!
That’s awesome! I’m glad it helped you. Thanks for watching. Remember to subscribe. 😊
Thanks ❤
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the helpful info ! I cut my own hair,. For years, its always been very thick. Long ago I good friend & my hair guy always used thinning shears after my cut. It really lightened up my head and was much cooler in summer. Now I finally bought a pair, will try now after watching ur video. Thanks very much. 1 question. Can your hair get thicker as you age! Mine seems to. But also front top is receding some, at 63 y o.
Listening to you is extremely pleasant, you seem to have a warm aura that actually made me learn something, this is a video we all needed but nobody admitted
Hey, thanks! 😊
Thank you for your tutorial. So helpful!!!!
Great. Thanks for watching. 😊
Very useful video. Thank you for sharing your skills with us!

Such a good video. Easy to watch, easy to follow and so soothing to listen too as well!
Does this apply to short thick hair? E g halfway down?
thank you x
Thank you 😊 will give it a go my hair is so thick it’s ridiculous, I had my thinning scissors arrive in the mail today 🎉
Thank you :)
The wack on the head and the slight pause... perfection
I think some hair dressers get to confident with their clients and just do whatever. I’ve had the same stylist for over 20 years. Let’s just say I won’t be back after thinning my hair like this. I asked for texture after she did such a blunt bob cut. She went in and took sooooooo much hair out. She went ham on my hair and I literally can’t wait for it to grow back. I spent $582 on this hair cut and color. 🥺
Yikes! So sorry to hear that.
So expensive!
I agree! I don’t let my hairdresser use these stupid scissors! I hate them.
Yrah..i don't get it..i already have thin hair. Went for some layers and after layers hairdresser went all out on using these shears. All I heard was the ripping of paper?..possibly not sharp enough? But why use on thinnjng hair?.. any one have an answer??
Friend, you were robbed before you were bobbed! 😮
Super helpful! Thank you lady 😊
You're so welcome! Thanks for watching...

Best video on U tube ❤❤❤❤
I almost spit coffee all over the desk when she pounded the model on its head to make it stay put, HAhahahahahaha,, Great video ☺
This video was really helpful! I’m not a hairdresser, but I do cosplay and am currently building one with a wig. I already don’t have much experience with wigs period, but this wig is THICK and needs thinning and didn’t know how to do that.
I'm so glad! Thanks for watching. And good luck with the wig! 😊
Thank you i been cutting straight not at angle ❤
Hope it helps. Thanks for watching. 😊
Very informative and definitely easy to understand thank you 👍😊
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching! 🙂
Thank you, I was definitely going to do this wrong lol
That was just to funny when you TKO'D the doll head 🤣
I lovee your shirt❣️
And the great advice also❣️
Thanks! 😊
IM DEAD how she smacks the head down BAHHAHAA
Oh yeah, my hair was was messed up with thinning shears years ago,. Also my entire hair was ruined by a razor and also supposed point cutting, which was done about an inch from my scalp. I have very fine straight hair that isn't thick. It was so thin and broken looking. I had to figure out how to wear it up. I hardly had enough thickness to wear up. These things were done at different times in my life. I'm 52 now. My hair is long and not colored. I get it cut straight across. Really does do a number on your self esteem getting your entire head of hair ruined.
Wow, I'm so sorry that happened to you...you'd be surprised how many stylists really haven't been taught how to use thinning shears correctly. Thank you for sharing.
I hear you Melissa! I'm 55 and have sadly suffered the same at the hands of some very "Snip" happy hairdressers and ended up with missing chunks of hair so now I tell them before they even start "Please don't use thinning shears or a razor on my hair" because of the bad experiences I've had.
I just started cutting my husband’s hair for him. It is so thick, he wants it thinned on top! This helped me a lot. Thanks for the video!
Awesome! So glad it helped. Thanks for watching! 💕
Nice tip
Thanks...I'm glad you found value in this video. Let me know if you have any tips for thinning shears...do you use them frequently?
this vid was a super informative lifesaver! I have a sort of mullet with crazy thick hair, it grows back so fast that I wanted to learn how to do this at home, otherwise it grows out into a big ol mushroom mop on my head lmao
Glad I could help!
My life..!!!!
Thank you for the tips, they are really helpful 😊
Glad you like them!
@@allabouthairwithdanise 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
Awesome thank u dude
Thank you. I just cut my daughters hair. I also went to beauty school in 1980. I was never taught how to use them. Her hair is so thick. The cut came out beautifully! ❤️👍😊
That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing.
I'm so glad I was able to find this video you explain it so well. And I have a question 😊 I'm biracial & have thick wavy curly hair what is the best scissor size for my type of hair to thin out. Thank you😊
Hi there! I would pick thinning shears with 20 or less teeth. But please be careful. It’s very easy to over-thin your hair. Make sure to do vertical sections, angle your shears and check after each cut. Also, remember the half-length. Thanks for watching! 😊
Interesting, Thank you. I need to cut my niece hair today so those tips came in handy ❤
Glad it was helpful!
I have really thick dense wavy hair I NEED this done so BAD thanks for the tips I might buy a pair and have hubs do it.
Go slowly. And good luck. Thanks for watching. 😊
Thank you 🙏 now I can thin my daughters hairs
I do use thinning shears on the top of my scalp. I have short hair that is extremely thick on top. I have to thin it for comfort.
Thanks for sharing!!
I don’t know why I laughed so hard at this moment 😂😂😂😂😂😂 she was so calm and collected 😂😂😂😂 1:40
I love the way she gave the head a good thwack to keep it in place! 😂
My friend wants her hair thinned..Im glad I watched this because I would have started @ the top then down!! Oh no! Glad you schooled me!
Hope it helped and your friends hair turned out okay. 😊 thanks for watching.
My thinning shears have teeth on both sides. They do a good job of blending and don't leave cutting lines. I didn't realize that when I bought them years ago.
I’m glad they’re working for you. There are so many types of thinning shears out there. Thanks for watching and sharing this with me. 😊
I love the way you hammered the dummy into the chair 😂😂 by hitting her on top of the head 😅😂. By the way superb video , I gonna get one scissor because I trust everything you said , I got from this video ! Big thank You , you are a brilliant teacher ❤❤❤❤🎉⚡️✋🤗
Thank you! And thanks for watching 😊 be sure to check out my newest video for more thinning shear tips.
when you bopped the mannequin head down onto the stand I laughed out loud imagining you doing that to a client
I literally did everything you said not to do and my hair is still so heavy I feel like cutting it all off it's frudtrating. I'll try cutting more layers and this technique
Yikes! Good luck. Thanks for watching.
1:39 i actually cackled
I have thick wavy hair. I find the thinning shears cause my hair to become frizzy, especially in hot m, humid weather or when I get sweaty. What is the best technique to thin out my hair type without causing frizz. Thank you!!
This can be true for individuals with a frizzy hair type. This happens because you are shortening the hairs...and those shorter hairs react differently, because they don't have the weight of length to help control the frizz. A couple of things I'd recommend: make sure you are not thinning more than half the length of the hair...and make sure you are using products that help weigh your hair down a bit and protects it from the humidity. One of my favorites is Eufora Smoothing Oil combined with Eufora Behave. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
My granddaughter has the thickest hair I have ever seen! She has always had a very tender scalp and it is super easily tangled. When she was small I thinned her hair with this kind of scissors and it worked just fine.
Right now its long and all one length and is an every day tangled mess its a huge problem.
My question is can I use this technique on her without creating a lot of short pieces throughout? My fear is that the short pieces will tangle with the long hairs making a bigger tangled mess!
Please advise 🙏🏻
TIA
You are correct in your thinking. The shorter strands could possibly make the tangling worse. You did not mention if her hair is curly, wavy or straight, however I advise using a wide-tooth comb while conditioner is on her hair in the shower. And then when she gets out out, DO NOT wind the hair up in a towel or briskly dry with towel. Just blot it dry with the towel, and then comb through again. She might need to spray a detangling spray on her damp hair beforehand.
Thanks for watching and good luck! Let me know if it works.
I have very thick hair begining from the top when I cut it from half it got really funny looking likebit bulged from the top and got leaner by the ends 😩 I only was wondering what side this scissors cut from the teeth side or straight side?
You have to randomly cut places - do not cut only half way down or you’ll create too much thickness. Your starting point should be the half way mark and then randomize to the ends. And also make sure your shears are at an angle. It sounds like you might have texturized too much. The thicker the hair, the more cautious you need to be. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. 😊
I saw the cut at base technique to use for wigs. is it safe or should I do the way you did it for my wigs?
Thank you
To be honest, I’ve never worked with wigs. I personally wouldn’t cut at the base. But maybe try it at the nape area, to be safe. Good luck and thank you so much for watching. 😊
Thank you for your reply:)@@allabouthairwithdanise
i have a question! when thinning from midshaft to ends doesnt that leave bulk from roots to midshaft? im a year out of school and thinning makes me so nervous!!
Great question! Congratulations on entering the beauty industry! You are correct with your thinking...if you went through the entire head and removed the bulk at the same midpoint, yes, it would create a feeling of "bulkiness" from roots to midshaft...however, you will not be removing bulk from the entire head and you should alternate where you remove the bulk. It does take practice and a bit of an eye for it...however, if you start out conservatively, this technique will definitely calm your nerves...you really can't go wrong.
Imagine being a customer and receiving one of those to adjust your head 1:38 lol.
😉 thanks for watching!
@@allabouthairwithdanise No, thank you! I took your advice and my hair came out looking pretty darn good. For once I managed not to ruin it 😌
What do you do if you over texturized your bangs? I used texturizing shears on my bangs and removed too much weight now they’re very spacey and sparse as they were much fuller looking before. (Didn’t watch this video before doing it 😂) do I just wait for my bangs to grow in full/thick again?
Yes, unfortunately you will have to wait for your hair to grow. Thanks for watching.
How about with synthetic wigs?
I’ve never cut a wig, however I would think the same rules would apply. 🤞🏼Thanks for watching. 😊
My undercut just got ruined into a bowl cut and its so thick and blunt cut so i been trying to watch videos to fix it 😢
I am grateful I paid close attention to our family's hair dresser...yeah, I am that old!
Do i just thin out the bottom section of my hair, or all of it.?
It really depends on the density of your hair and the overall look you’re trying to achieve.
The bang on the head 💀
I got my hair cut this past Tuesday and the stylist used texturizing shears on my hair. The next day when I washed and dried my hair, I noticed a difference and did not like the new look the stylist gave me with the texturizing shears. I usually like my hair having body and now it doesn't. I'll have to wait for my hair to grow out. I asked for a lightly layered (meaning long layers) bob and now it doesn't look layered to me.
I’m sorry that happened to you. It’s true, thinning shears don’t always need to be used to achieve the desired result. Some stylists use them when they don’t know what else to do. Luckily, Hair does grow back. I know that doesn’t help your current situation. Have patience. Hang in there. 💕
@@allabouthairwithdanise Thanks for your advice. I'll wait until my hair grows out to get it cut. I will have to tell the stylist NOT to use texturizing shears the next time I get my hair cut.
What do I do if I over thinned me hair now its very frizzy
When it comes to thinning hair, less is more...meaning, don't over thin...Frizzy? Do you have curly hair? It may be caused by the curl pattern not having enough weight to it now and is curling up a bit more.
Is it normal if the thinning shears i boughtkind of tight to cut? I try to loosen the screwbut didnt work out.
Hmmm. You should be able to adjust with the screw. Try some oil. That might help. Let me know. Thanks for watching 😊
How do you compress hair strands? My hair really turns into a very wavy and uncompressed, it wasn't like this before combing it doesn't help it only adds volume 😭
If you have curly/wavy hair, do not brush or comb it after it's dried into it's natural state. It will get bigger. You should use your fingers to rake through it, only after using something to control (compress) the wave pattern...like a gel. Not mousse. Hope this helps. Check out my video on how to use the diffuser...it has some tips for wavy hair in there too.
🙏 thanks ❤️❤️❤️
I'm a brand new stylist, I've only been doing it for 2 months professionally and I took a chunk out of someone's hair today at work. She had very thick coarse hair and I just took my thinning shears to the back top layer of a big chunk of her hair and it was sticking out and looked awful.
Oh no! I hope everything turned out okay.
