Johnny vs. Mega Man 2

- The game you've at least heard of a million times before is now getting the review spotlight. Mega Man may have not been financial hit, but that didn't stop the developers from wanting to make a sequel to it anyway. Did the extra work and dedication pay off? Let's find in Mega Man 2 for the NES!
0:22 "In actuality, Capcom wanted to forget Mega Man and move on."
Foreshadowing...
GzG92 my god. That explains everything
Kurokage X MEGAMAN IS ILLUMANATI
GzG92
Whoa. Yeah. That explains EVERYTHING.
Thundaga the Jolteon yep
GzG92 i was thinking the same thing
Perhaps the reason why Mega Man was walking around the valley for many seasons was because he was exhausted from having to chase Dr. Wily for two games, and was thinking things over before deciding to leave behind his helmet and retire at the village he kept walking by. I know that Mega Man can't retire, but maybe Capcom originally thought Mega Man 2 would be their last Mega Man game, and therefore made the ending cutscene to indicate that he was retiring... Of course, he didn't, but that's how I interpret the ending cutscene.
It's funny you mention that, because despite the fact that Rock has a strong sense of justice, he...really doesn't like fighting all that much (he chooses to do it anyway, because he wants to keep the world safe from assholes like Wily), so your interpretation could be quite accurate.
That or Light was being a dick and refused to use the teleporter to warp him back quicker
@@esmooth919 oh kinda like x
X probably had to get it from somewhere…
I would actually go under the assumption that the Mega Man 2 Ending *is* the actual ending to the Classic series. The X-Series set up the start of the Zero Series in X6, so it makes sense that, at least in a retroactive sense, the Mega Man 2 ending is what happens at the end of the Classic era, at least excluding what's shown in Maverick Hunter X, with Dr. Light building X. Maybe Classic decided to hang the mega buster up for one reason or another, such as what you listed, where he just becomes exhausted after the same song and dance continuing to go on, or Dr. Wily passing on for one reason or another, or, in a more gruesome twist, Rock's expiration date has arrived, and he's taking one last look around his town or the world before he gets scrapped, leaving helmet behind for anyone to find, so his legacy is remembered.
Mega Man:
Can throw a heavy ass blade of metal in eight directions
Can only shoot his own arm straight
Ceramic Titanium isn't that heavy when there is that little being thrown, besides, have you beaten Mega Man 5?
He held up an entire Wily Fortress
How about there is a MegaMan X fan game currently in development that allows X to shoot in all 8 directions, as well as dash under narrow ceilings (similar to Rock's slide), and roll over on his back from a dash in order to shoot someone behind him (as impractical as that sounds in a 2D game, it still looks cool).
I downloaded MM2 on the Wii U e-shop today. I started with Metal Man. I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN A SITUATION SO INTENSE IN MY LIFE.
I was so excited in that battle! In fact, I nearly lost at the end, but I managed to shoot Metal Man before the dying animation started.
I will love this game forever ♥

Not true. The version I played for the review was the Virtual Console version.

Whats with the light change at the beginning when you say its pretty obvious?

The ending he was thinking about how he in a way killed his brothers.
O_o oh my......
in 1, Wily took them from Dr light, in 2 he built them..
Only the robot masters in 1, 3 (since both Light and Wily built them) and 9 are related to Rock. Wily built all the others since 2.
+L-Y3T
In 4, they where build by Dr. Cossack.
Schwarzer Ritter true
I think the point of the Megaman 2 ending was to say "Megaman's hanging up the helmet" He's going into early retirement, in other words.
Why? Well, in-game, I don't know. I guess two adventures fighting 14 robot masters, and a stubborn doctor, "tired him out" and he doesn't want to keep fighting. Or Megaman Classic was having similar thoughts to Megaman X from the first 3 X games, questioning why people fight. And Megaman was considering stopping because he didn't like violence. But these are both big stretches.
Another reason was that they were probably planning on ending the series here because Capcom didn't even care about it that much. They only got to work on it as a side project for about... 8 months, I think you said? In the end, they probably didn't expect Capcom to say "Yes" to a Megaman 3. The melancholy tone and Megaman's yearwalking work into this because the people who made the game must have really enjoyed making it, and wanted to make another but didn't think they would ever get the chance, so they show that it is a sad ending for the series.
And then Megaman 3 came in. And Megaman 4... and 5, 6, 7, 8, and eventually 9 and 10. Plus the X games and... well, they sure got their wish. :3.

Watching this made me realize how much Megaman 7 borrows from this game, from weapons, to stage themes to obstacles, guess that is part of what makes MM7 so awesome.
My favourite one of the classic series followed by MM6.

Metal Man, still my all time favorite Robot Master
And that music... :kreygasm:
Indeed
when you talked about the first wily stage music, i was curious and looked it up on the search bar. the first thing that popped up when i typed "megaman 2" was "megaman 2 dr wily stage 1". whoever made that track deserves a raise to say the least
7:17 - best part of the game, loved the scale of the bosses, which was rare at the time. Also the 3D parallax with airman was awesome, going behind clouds amazed me when I first played this.
I personally love the quick boomerang more than the metal blade. Sure, some people like the metal blade for its long range, but I love it because it has a very high ammo count and it can add more challenge to the game. I have completed Megaman 2 with just the quick boomerang and I continue to do that in my free time.
Oh hey! Thanks for watching my stuff dude.

Ey 2017 watcher over here!... Oh... Wait
ay no prob
dad
Understandable. It has some moments that feel really archaic sometimes. But, to me, something about it really clicks. When it shines, it REALLY shines. It's the kind of unique experience where sometimes I just stop and think "Damn, I love that game." I never got that with 2. I still enjoy it, but it's flaws seem more apparent and come up more often.
So... Capcom wanted to forget about Megaman originally and the only way they'd let a sequel come to be was if it was done by those who cared about the character in their own free time, while Capcom wouldn't lift a finger to help?
Oh, the irony....
Well, 25 years later, they got their wish! And look at how much good it did them, blue bomber fans abandoning them, protests to continue the games they gave up on, a spirital successor that was made by possible by the fans, going out of business- Man, this company knows how to get shit done!
They wanted to give up on the character after one game, which forced those who did care about it to make ONE OF THE BEST NINTENDO GAMES EVER on their own time- and after it became a success? Capcom did their damnedest to milk the series dry, and eventually kicked the series to the curb along with everyone who still cared.
Blame the fact that Keiji Inafune left. Imagine a Megaman game not helped by him... *points at X6*
Well, not without justification. Capcom didn't completely give up on Mega Man after the first game, or else they wouldn't have ever allowed them to make Mega Man 2 in the first place. It's not that they didn't wanna lift a finger to help, it's that they wanted to focus on games that can turn a profit, like any game company. Their recent practices though? That's a little more puzzling to me.
Okoa DmC wasn't that bad. The plot was uninteresting, but who plays DMC for the plot (other than DMC3)?
Giordan Diodato X5 is worse than X6.
Israel Romero then megaman 11 announcement.
Every day I have nothing to do really, especially considering the fact that I got a Wii U recently JUST to play Mario Kart 8, but when I'm bored, I know I can always come to your videos and never get bored. Thanks Johnny!
Dude, can’t believe this was made in 2013! These reviews are superb, even almost 7 years later!!
i heard a pretty interesting theory that since megaman 2 was supposed to be the last game, (what with you know, capcom wanting to move on...) the ending was supposed to symbolize the end of megaman.
I have a love/hate relationship with Mega Man 2. On one hand, I do love the game. It improves (nearly) every aspect the original game had, has some great platforming levels, and has one of the best soundtracks in the Classic series. On the other hand, I'm probably the only Mega Man fan out there that wants other games in the series to be recognized. Seeing 2 over and over again gets to me, and it annoys me when people brush every other game after it. Also, I loathe the weapon system in this game. The Metal Blades are great, but I find them to be the biggest problem with the weapon system. Since the Metal Blades are so overpowered, I feel a lot of the experimentation was lost from the original game and the rest of the series. The other weapons feel incredibly situational (looking at you Crash Bomber, Air Shooter and Bubble Lead), and the Buebeam Trap is one of the worst bosses in the series. Overall, Mega Man 2 is one of my least favorite games in the Classic series, but it is still a good game. Damn good, but I personally prefer many other Mega Man games to this.
I do see where your coming from on the Weapons and Buebeam Trap, but Megaman 2 just has so many good things about it that they outweigh the bad things, Buebeam Trap not withstanding
Zero Ace. That's true, but compared to the rest of the series, I prefer playing them (or at least most) compared to this.
***** 3 and 6 have my favorite soundtracks in the Classic series. 9's is amazing too. Imagine a Flash in the Dark remix for Smash 4? I hope there's more tracks than what we have. :D
same here, 2's super overrated
I like 2, but on a side note, I never understood why Metal Blade was so popular. Just look at the Quick Boomerang! It can be fired virtually forever (by the time you lose 2 or three bars, you will have found a refill anyway), and it is fully automatic! That, and the Metal Blade, do take away that experimentation.
I like to start with Air Man first.
Neither he nor his stage is very difficult, he's literally weak to the Mega Buster, and gaining Item-2 as soon as possible drastically cuts down the overall difficulty if used skillfully.
Autobot Starscream Same.
May I ask what difficult to you played on, if you remember?
@@esmooth919 I played through MM2 multiple times while experimenting with the stage order before starting to migrate from Metal Man First to Air Man First, so I probably started playing Difficult (Original Japanese difficulty) by that point; iirc, on that difficulty the Mega Buster does 1 damage to most Robot Masters and 2 to Air Man, it just feels like a particularly fast and easy way to down Air Man to me since the small shots of the Buster can occasionally slip through the Air Shooter barrage, letting me chip away at him from a safe distance more easily than most weapons whose shots are so big that they'll be blocked every time unless I hop through the barrage to close in on Air Man and shoot him at point-blank range, and this allows me to focus on dodging until I wear him down.
@@autobotstarscream765 that's how I bust Air Man, as well. I just stay to the far side and shoot when I can
great videos dude, exactly what i am looking for in a classic game review
I just recently replayed the game on difficult mode. I still don't know why people say Air Man is so hard either.
I think it's an exaggeration based on that Japanese song, "I Can't Defeat Airman"
Get up close to him with the Leaf Shield, you may take massive damage, but he'll die in like 3 seconds.
All Megaman fans totally need to listen to The Protomen. They're a Rock Opera band, and everything they do is based on Megaman games and storylines.
Nope it is not just you Johnny. I as well go with Flash Man or Wood Man first
I always start with Flash Man, myself.
I like to start with airman honestly
I usually start with Crash Man
I start with Metal Man or Flash Man tbh.
@@Xenovation3334 me too
i hate that alien boss if you didn't have any ammo for the buble weapon you ain't beating it cause all other weapons heals it !!
Plus touching him makes you lose half of your health. When you're dodging bullets and trying to shoot him its not hard to mess up and touch him.
*Wroooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong*
@@stevencloer2941 um...no. touching him *kills you. INSTANTLY*
....I thought only the quick boomerang healed the last boss.
L-Y3T Wait, it does? That never happened to me in the Legacy Collection but either they got rid of that or it’s probably because I was playing with the Defense booster on.
By far my favorite mega man game of all time. Thanks for getting me into this game 10 years ago Johnny!
I love this game, but that boss that requires crash mans power is a pain in the ass.
There is a way to defeat it without using up your crash bomb. Took me forever and a youtube video to discover it, but there is a way.
Because of you, Johnny, I'm playing the first 3 Mega Man games, and I have finished the first 2
It's one of my favorite endings in video game history! I think it's meant to symbolize the phase of the hero's journey where the hero must return home after his adventure and try to adjust to a "normal" life. By the way, I don't think the boss battle in Wily's Castle 4 was poor design, I think they did that intentionally. It's uniquely challenging.
I love MegaMan 2, it's my favorite among the NES ones.
We have computers at school so, while my teacher was missing i fully completed MegaMan 2 online before she returned :3
MM2 is a great game, probably one of my favorites since I could pick it up now and have tons of fun.
I honestly think the song about Airman is pure sarcasm, since he is obviously one of easiest bosses in this game.
I look forward to the rest of the series (8 was my first, as I didn't grow up as a nintendo kid, and I love it still)
You can't beat Air Man...
came from a song, that is so catchy it's not even funny.
But the song is also hyperbole, because Airman is not hard at all...not even on the Japanese difficulty. I could buster him if I wanted to. Whoever wrote that song just sucks at Mega/RockMan. Lol
@@esmooth919 What Lucy type of drugs you use? Edit: I completed 76% of Cuphead expert mode with S-rank and had pretty easy time with the game in general
@@anomalocaris2593 ?!
@@esmooth919 Seriously, even with 3's slide I can dodge his air shot with like 40% of the time. And in 2 how the f#*k are you supposed to dodge his jump and air shot? Not to mention hit him more than he hits you!? So either you've played that game to death, or you took some blue crystald that made you remember being born and her breast milk flowing to your mouth
@@anomalocaris2593 the Air Shot is a crap-shoot, so I just tank damage from it if I can't dodge, but when the fight begins, I just stay to the very left of the room to avoid his jumping and just unload on him with my buster whenever the opportunity presents itself. Then, when he blows me to the other side of the room, I just jump over him. (Seriously, fuck the Skull-Bot version of that fight)
people who think Metalman being weak to his own weapon need to realise that if you fight someone with a shotgun, and a guy takes that shotgun, you'll be weak to that shotgun
Then, how do you explain the other robot masters being immune to their own weapons?
(However, the robot masters in 3 AREN'T immune to their own weapons, as discovered during the final boss rush)
L-Y3T well. That I can't explain. I could always say that they're designed that way? No that still makes no sense
+L-Y3T Techincally speaking, only some Robot Masters from MM 1-10 are immune to their own weapons. Most RMs take damage from their weapon as well.
I'm not the only one who prefers the X series over the Classic series, am I?
^
I actually can't pick... as a kid the first mega man game I played was X but I still like the classics
I prefer the Zero series, but yeah.
Yu Narukami I like the X series a lot more due to the wall climb mechanic, dashing, epic armor upgrades, and i love how grunge nasty X 1-3 are lol
Yu Narukami Probably not, but I prefer the simpler style of the classic series. The X games sometimes get crowded with mechanics and junk, and while I love all the Mega Man platformers, barring ZX which I have yet to play, I still think simplicity is king.
8:18 _As soon as you step foot inside that door, you'll fall victim-_
Mega Man: (throws Metal Blade) *Fuck. You!*
I've played megaman 2 so often l've memorized. that 2nd password. It's all weapons, at wily fortress, no etanks.
Just for the record the final fight against Alien Wily also has the problem as the crash bomb turret boss, it's just not as important to note because Bubble Lead has a lot of ammo.
When I played this game, I started with air man. His stage was easier then the rest
I used to go Metal Man First but have migrated to Air Man First while experimenting with stage orders to spice up repeated playthroughs and find the one that's right for me.
The Mega Man series was awesome! Great job John!
how many sofa´s do you have?
You could say.. Over 9000.
LuigiTheShadow 600 facing the back of a tv.
I don't think the ending should be taken so literally. I think the game's creators were really passionate about it, but also had to consider the very real possibility that it might not perform better in the marketplace than the first game did. Knowing this, they made an ending that was open, yet could still serve as a bittersweet farewell to the Rockman character if the worst happened.
9:59 And now Mega Man 11 has overtaken 2 as the bestselling game in the franchise
7:23 I've been playing this game for years and I never noticed how hilariously small the wings on the mecha dragon are
A lot of people will probably hate me for this but honestly Mega Man 2 is my least favorite (and he most overrated). It's still a good game but to me, I like the others better. There's still some awesome music in this game. Also I'm one of those people who likes Wily Stage 3 better than Wily Stage 1. And Heat Man's theme is okay. Most of MM2's soundtrack to me is neatral, with the exceptions of Metal Man, Wood Man, Crash Man, Quick Man, Dr Wily Stages 1 and 3 (Stage 1 is REALLY overrated. There are other songs too. Don't focus on just one song.). I'd have to say that my favorite game in the series happens to be the one that everyone says is the hardest (a.k.a Mega Man 1). Second favorite being Mega Man 3, third favorite is a tie between 7 and 9. I don't know which is better. Fifth favorite is a tie between 4 and 10, Seventh favorite goes to Mega Man and Bass. The most neutral game in the series goes to Mega Man 8. Third least favorite is Mega Man 6. Second least favorite being Mega Man 5, and my least favorite out of all of them is self-explanitory at this point. It's my opinion so no hate comments. I'd like to say my favorite Mega Man 2 RM is Quick Man.
I agree with you
Johnny I just have to say it's a crime you're not higher up among the CZcams gaming ranks. Your content is so professional and you're great to your fans. Keep pushing dude, your time is coming!
I have a theory on the 1st credits theme, and why megaman keeps leaving dr willey (Misspelling was on purpose), is becsuse they are just CLONES of wiley. Why else would Megaman let willy escape like he did in Meagman 4 like that? BECAUSE IT WAS NOT HIM! And in Megaman 3, protoman questions where willy is, when he can scan for life forms, AND THERE WERE NONE, other than Megaman, but he's a ROBOT not a HUMAN! The only 2 exceptions to this is Megaman 6 and 7, where in 6, Megaman arrests dr wiley, and in megaman 7, he tries to kill him. Any other excepions?
I think he's just said that he had to kill so many robot masters to get to wily, and he's wondering how many others will die in the future. And if he could have found a less violent solution to his battles.
My theory
Mega Man 2 is actually the last game in the classic series chronologically
And mega man is walking away forever

My favorite Mega Man! The ending was the best NES ending back in the day.
Never understood the praise this game gets tbh. Might be my least favorite of the classic series. The weapons are pretty useless outside of the Metal blade, the stages are way too short and the Wily stages are pretty bland and boring imo
Nostalgia blindness is the reason. Trust me I'm with you on this one
@@dracompb966 nostalgia isn’t the reason people love it, if they hold it in high regard then let them
I just did a MM2 review of my own and I just realized that I used almost the same shots to introduce the E-Tank lol.
It still pisses me off to this day that this game got it's own review while the best NES game 4 got lumped in with the worst megaman game, honestly this is the second worst megaman game in the series.
The robot master stages are fine, but everything else is awful and busted.
The weapons are garbage or godlike and everything, quick boomerang and metal blade which are stupid good and overshadow while everything else is just worthless except for 1 or two situations I don't get how it's fun to have only two useful weapons it's megaman 5 levels of trash weapons.
And actually the level design is worse that MM1 there are tons of sections where damage is almost unavoidable and the wily stages are short and ass there's nothing to them then you reach buubeam trap which is the worst boss in any NES game ever.
Honestly megaman 1 is a better game in almost every way. But megaman 4 overshadows 1 2 and 3 in every way, it has the best weapon selection only being rivaled by megaman 9 it has the best robot masters (subjective) better music than MM2 and fantastic level design, and it's story was actually a surprise as a kid I didn't see the twist coming because it was the first megaman game to have it.
I'm never going to understand why people love MM2 so much and I even grew up with the fucking game but I never found it that good or anywhere near worthy of its place as best megaman game.
I’ve only played 2,3, and 4, and I can safely say four was the best. It’s sad how it gets NO attention! MM2 gets it all, and it doesn’t deserve it.
Good post. MM2 is very overrated, and while I have no problem with people enjoying it for what it is, it's full of flaws and a lot of its love is mostly from nostalgia. The weapons are unbalanced, with only two of them being good while the rest are trash. The level design hasn't aged well. There are plenty of sections in Quick Man and Flash Man's stages where you have to be lucky in order to take the paths with items instead of enemies with annoying placement. Sometimes you won't be able to take the good path anyway because you didn't have Item 1-3 or Crash Bomb. There's an area in Wily Stage 2 that baits you into using Crash Bomb three times while missing out on TWO E-TANKS AND TWO 1UPS. Wily Castle as a whole is full of excessive mandatory Item usage, and I don't think I need to talk about how poorly designed the Wily Stage 3 boss is.
MM4, meanwhile, is my favorite of the classic series. The weapons are much more useful and balanced; Bright Flash, for example, is literally a better Flash Stopper. You can use it in increments instead of one long use that you can't cancel, and you can even SHOOT while using it. The levels are infamous for the amount of spikes, but to me that's better than being set back simply by choosing the wrong path. The game introduced the charge shot and it had creative enemies and minibosses. The music was better to me, although that's subjective. I honestly don't see why everyone is hyped up over 2's soundtrack all the time.
People are allowed to hold it in high regard as their favorite, nostalgia shouldn’t have to matter
Airman is known as hard because of the joke song "Airman ga Taosenai (I Can't Beat Airman)." However, the song has some merits. Airman is tricky even if you have the Leaf Shield because of the random nature of the tornadoes.
TBH I don't like Mega Man 2 very much. The soundtrack is very overrated in my opinion, I only like Flash Man and Wily Stage 1, everything else sounds dull to me. I think the level design is pretty obnoxious, Bubble Man, Heat Man, Quick Man and Air Man's stages are annoying as hell. Also, the weapon screens take way too fucking long and are super goddamn annoying. Don't get me wrong, I get why it is loved but with it's obnoxious levels and dull soundtrack, I can only enjoy so much of it.
Same
08:00: Actually, it's NOT the only time that can happen. If you run out of Bubble Lead against the final boss, you have to start the entire Wily stages over again, since there's nowhere in the level to grind for weapons energy.

By a fucking mile. MM2 does not at all deserve this much praise
@@dracompb966 yeah it kinda does
As someone who's been playing these games since their release, I highly recommend the Anniversary Collection. On another note, the guns/walls boss at the end of Wily Castle 4 is NOT bad game design. It's tricky design. You have exactly enough Crash ammo to destroy all the guns and ONLY the walls absolutely necessary--you can use Item 1 to go around the other walls. It's a puzzle...one that we painstakingly solved as 8-yr olds. But then, kids were more hard-nosed gamers back then. *shakes cane*
This one's much better than the first. The gameplay feels smoother, the difficulty is more fair, and the game's just plain more fun.
This game is extremely fun to fight bosses using Mega Buster (except for the boss that require Clash Bomber, and the final boss that requires Bubble Lead.)
Good times man, good times.
Awesome! I'm going to High School and I'm glad you upload this! :D
The artist responsible said that Capcom said the Mega Buster was a pistol and said something like "Hey, Capcom told me to put the pistol in there!"

I assume the somber credit screen music was because they thought they weren't going to be continuing the series. This assumption given off the knowledge that capcom didn't want to continue the series stated at the beginning.
happy 34th anniversary megaman!!! :3
This is actually my 4th most favorite Mega Man game behind MM9, MMX and MM3. The main reasons are that the difficulty becomes totally non-existent once you play it a few times (at least the Robot Master stages), there is also no slide here (which is something many people like) and the infamous Wily Stage 4 turret boss is notorious for it's high demand for ammo conservation. But other than that, it's such a well-crafted game with an amazing visual style and musical soundtrack.
I had never played a Mega Man game before until you started doing this Marathon. But after playing some of the games I really enjoy the series. Mega Man 2 is definitely my favorite. A few weeks ago i never touched it. but now i can beat it in under an hour. I just loved it the second i picked it up.
Taking all Megaman series' into account it's been 3 years since we've seen a Megaman game.
1:09 the European box art is legendary. Only in the 80s was box art like that possible.
Um, the Quick Boomerang has twice as much ammo as the Metal Blade. Also, for Air Man, you can literally beat him just by running towards him and mashing the shoot button like you're playing Mario Party. Other than that, great review.
Despite what others say about mega man 2 credits; I can say this. I’ve done a lot of research on this with one of the Japan’s most socio-economic / political problems. mass alienation, I’ll try to make this concise(for my sake too 😂) basically, after WWII, Japan had its Meiji era and they westernized. This had a lot of positive effects but also had some deep cultural/racial/ even ethnic negative effects. A lot of developed states like America suffer from this too but Japan is the worst of it. Mass alienation happens simultaneously with otaku culture(broad subculture of video games, anime, etc) that creates alienation from different effects. This is due to a hard I trust risk society from post world war 2, Japan trying to cope with its new striped identity, the ethnocide by globalization. Counter culture by otaku culture video games creates a wander in some like final fantasy. A lot of us is based on sociological/psychological book thesis research. I wrote a university paper about how mass alienation happens with otaku culture, 8 pages with 8 wonderful sources to be exact. Now back to my point, Megaman(like many protagonists) is a wander searching for purpose, for belonging. Basically trying to escape dominant societal culture, is what mega man represents as a wander(huge scholarship behind it) in this apocalyptic setting. As someone who wants to be a diplomat and speaks/writes a good amount of Japanese, this was a great moment in my academic bachelor’s life. If y’all think I’m overthinking this video game with science, I understand. Be cool if this comment gets pinned, i do believe the science of many of r fav video games, art, entertainment as an escape from majoritarian adult lives imao 10X(pun intended with the X for mega man X) I don’t mean to ruin the magic of video games y’all but I am trying to call the truth as I see it. Have a blessed day 🧡
I started playing megaman 2 a year ago and it was the first megaman game I played and I still play it today. never bored of it
To explain why Air Man is known for being difficult, he was much harder in the original version. On top of that, there's a song called "Air Man ga Taosenai", which means "I Can't Defeat Air Man".
The player can't pass the infamous disappearing blocks in Heat Man's stage. He eventually learns that the Item-2 can make it easier. However, its gained after defeating Air Man and despite his best efforts, he "can't defeat Air Man", especially with his stage weakening the player. (rest in next part)
I always imagined the credits theme was Mega Man walking back from Wily's Fortress to Dr. Light's Lab lamenting the fact that he didn't actually arrest Wily.
Yes,especially since there's no boss in Megaman 3(as well as in the rest of the franchise)that forces you to use only 1 weapon, which would be the Crash Bomber,in order to beat it,and as well as having to make sure every Crash Bomber you use in that boss fight counts.
You almost killed me! I swear I could almost see a LIGHT!
True thing, Megaman 2 was the big start for the serie, my favorite is maybe mm5 or mm&bass, but i played all my childhood with mm2 for most.....so good memories :')
No other weapon hurts them so "just shoot them" doesn't work. Second, the crash bombs only have 7 uses(4 units per use) and third 2 of the 5 turrets are completely shielded needing to destroy the shields first. So 3 "button things" means 3 shots(using utilities); 2 shields, 2 shots; 2 leftover "button things", 2 shots, so 7 in total.
Let me field a few things Johnny mentioned but couldn't give a proper answer.
1. The airman thing being hard is really just a joke for the humor song Airman Ga Taosenai. The only hard thing that could possibly be considered difficult is the stage itself.
2. The be precise about the sprite flickering, it's a setting you can turn on and off on the anniversary collection. They also fix the pause glitch in megaman 1 in the anniversary collection.
7:17 on top of that, if his body touches you once, it is a one hit kill!
The premise of the I Can't Defeat Air Man meme is that Air Man is difficult with the Mega Buster, and to get his weakness, you have to beat Wood Man, who is also difficult with the Mega Buster. His weakness is Heat Man's weapon, but you can't get to Heat Man because of the disappearing blocks right before his door. You can use Item-2 to skip that section, but you need to beat Air Man to do so. (continued in a reply)
Believe it or not, sprite flickering was common in NES games. Very very rarely does it ever impede you or cause you to die. There really are no other technical problems beyond that.
I can't believe it. I barely ever played Megaman games. I started with the original by downloading it to my Nintendo Wii a few years ago. Now I've also played a little bit of Megaman 2 and some Megaman X.
one thing, in the intro level of MM8 we see dilapidated buildings and the dragon rusting "corpse" ence, 2th wily castle is on the same island
Seeing this review, and the text at the end, I'm glad I bought that "Megaman Anniversary" title.
this may be hard to believe, but mega man 2 is my favorite game of all time! And it's now because of nostalgia. because I only got to play it in recent years, and i was born in the late 90's. Before mega man 2, i thought that classic games were terrible (mainly because i haven't played one), but once i played mega man 2, i fell in love with classic games. This game left a huge impact on my life like no other game. yeah, it maybe overrated to some, but it's still kicks ass and you cant deny that.
Ahh yes, the Boobeam Trap boss. It's a tough nut of a boss for new players for sure and even though the execution of its design was a bit clunky, I don't agree it was bad design. Looking at all Megaman bosses out there, this one still stands out as being something unique and I appreciate something new (just like the Wily archives in MM10). The stage is intentionally set up so it allows for grinding, even if it isn't a fun aspect, you're not completely lost missing one shot or losing once.
Nah, that's still pretty bad design.
The 3ds and wii u virtual console version of Mega Man 2 fixes the sprite flickering a little bit but it's not as noticeable as it use to be on the NES.
Only on a hand full of games, because it was so expensive in the days.
Games that had a bettery save that i can remember are: Legend of Zelda, Kirby's adventure, Final Fantasy and the Ultima games.
