I can see where you're coming from but honestly X5 is completely unplayable to me. X6 is marginally better but still awful. X7 is just a regular bad game.
@Tensai Akiyama I personally find X5 really boring, more so than any other game in the series. It’s a fine enough game in some aspects, but there are other elements that very much annoy me. Endings decided by RNG which can lock you out of using a specific character through no fault of your own, an incredibly vague parts system, a lame armor system that takes away any immediate feeling of progression that armor parts once had, and level designs that frequently have you wait around doing next to nothing are my biggest issues with it. At least its soundtrack is great and its story is pretty enjoyable. I think X6 and X7 are worse games, but I’d honestly rather play those ones over X5, even with X6’s... less than stellar stages.

Hey man, never feel bad about using stuff like Rewind or Save States, especially on 80s and 90s games. I lived through that era, that stuff was brutal and often designed around the quarter-munching philosophy of the time. The harder the game, the longer people would play it, etc. Except that was a double edged sword and you also ran the risk of people simply returning or giving up and forgetting about it. Thank gods someone invented the Game Genie back then.

it still feels like an accomplishment to beat the game with the buster only. I don't mind others "cheating" or whatever, as long as developers don't cater to those people only.
another reason to use it because times matter. true, being a kids back then you had a lot of free time but then again, most NES games don't have save and load feature like we used to today, I can't imagine to beat megaman nes on one sitting without getting disturb by anything in your life LOL

It's like if, in a Doctor Who scenario, you put yourself in a timeloop consisting of you just before tripping into a pit of spikes and then dying. It's tricky to escape, and you may have to purposefully restart the whole game and/or level to get a chance at making it through. Or, if you're a Fire Emblem player, you happened to save just before enemy backup appears out of frickin nowhere and surrounds you just when your whole team has nearly depleted health.
I have issues.
I love it in the genesis/mega drive collection on switch. I've been a gamer since the late 80's and was used to oldschool games, but nowadays I have to say: they were just too hard most of the time and all of them had game over. I'm a grown-up, I don't have time to always go back to the start ;p

Eerily uncanny valley though! It's got such realistic anatomy that Dr Wiley looks like a genuine old man depressed over the passing of his wife, or some shit. o_O
But yeah, considering the competition it's up against in the US release's box (which legit looks like something usually stuck on a fridge with a magnet), it's really cool. Actually just a _good_ piece of artwork on its own merits.
Hell, and despite being 3 feet too tall, Megs himself looks way less off-model than he would on *two out of the three* western market covers for MM2! Pretty amazing.

I actually use rewind a lot when I’m doing practice runs for speed running. If my run dies, I use the rewind feature in my emulator to go back to the moment just before my run died and try again.
This results on my playing the parts of a run I have trouble with more than any other parts until I no longer need to rewind.

Definitely, for the most part. Just don't play the last three games. They aren't as good as the first 5 and have no connection with the Zero series (the successor to the X series) whatsoever.
While X6 and X7 aren't good ( and i started megaman on x6), i think X8 was great, it was really good, the 2.5d was great, story is fine, X6 and X7 no, but X8 give it a try.

Two things that are always true about the classic Mega Man games:
1. The music is FUCKING AWESOME
2. They’re controller throwingly hard (5 did have a slightly flatter difficulty curve than the others though)

I had Mega Man 2 for NES as a kid, so I got a replacement copy a year or two ago.
Then I bought Mega Man Legacy Collection for DS or 3DS, qnd I have a 500-in-1 NES cart with Mega Man 1-6, and the Wiley Wars on the Genesis Mini... but I just got Mega Man 1 and 3 for NES today, because Mega Man games are too difficult, and my daughter gets frustrated and quits... cue the Game Genie!
3:05 - A lot of the characters from the Mega Man series were references to music. Mega Man (AKA Rock Man) and Roll = Rock and Roll, Proto Man (AKA Blues or Blues Man), Bass and his dog Treble, the list goes on. I even heard that Mega Man's dog Rush was a reference to the band Rush but never really found any substantial evidence to back that up.
Brandon Hall too bad the stage themes didn’t ROCK until 2 came out.
And even in Japan! We have Waltz, from some art poster thing, and Bass and Treble are known there as Forte and Gospel!

Whenever I'm playing a game like Super Mario Bros. ir Super Mario Bros. 3 on my 3DS, I always go back my most recent save point so I don't lose a life after I die. I feel ya, Scott.

I have been playing Mega Man and I've been a huge fan of being a man since 1992 and this is the first time I've seen the European Mega Man box art and it is freaking awesome

I still don't get why this channel only has 250k subs I mean compared to most people thats a lot but it deserves so many more. When I discovered it a couple months back I thought oh this guy must be a large channel half way through the video. Then I looked and thought (in scotts voice) "huh."
With patience and observation, Yellow Devil isn’t too bad. I only played through the original Mega Man twice, and both being years apart. Last time I fought it I got a game over once. It always follows the same pattern, you just have to time your jumps accordingly while gradually moving away from it to avoid the body’s contact damage.

I just recently decided to play through all the classic megaman games for the first time. Really neat to see Scott review the first game right after beating it
I remember when I was like 11 or something in I begged my mom for mega man 2 for Christmas. I then went to a friend's house two days before Christmas and he rented it. I sat the whole weekend and beat the game and in those days you only got maybe 2 to 3 games a year so you had to make sure you picked something that was going to last quite a while and after I told her I beat it and wanted Zelda 2 instead she was so mad at me because obviously she had already bought megaman and had it wrapped and everything but she went to hills (if anybody remembers that store) and returned it and waited in line on Christmas eve for hours to get me Zelda. God bless her heart. I'll never forget that. Good times.

The Mega Man games got progressively easier as you move from Mega Man 1 onwards.
By 10 you've got the ability to buy spike shoe protectors or BEAT calls to pull you out of bottomless pits.
By Mega Man 5 and 6 I found it easier to use the autofire megabuster than to use boss weapons.
The ulcer mention plus the pepto bismol in the background was pretty good.
I remember getting this game for xmas and popping it into my nes for first time my parents didn't see me for a week plus this is the game that caused me brake my first controller 😂.

He was called "Rockman" because of the Rock/Paper/Scissor mechanic of using the bosses' weapons against other bosses.
Actually, it's because the franchise is big on naming characters after music, at least according to the Classics. We have Rock and Roll, the darling Light twins, their wayward big brother Proto Man, whom the Japanese call Blues, the Russians, Dr. Cossack and his daughter Kalinka, Rush, said to be named after the music band, Eddie, said to reference Eddie van Halen, Beat, Cossack's bird he gave to Rock as an apology gift, Tango, the cat who was at least SOME help in defeating the Stardroids, Bass and Treble, in Japan known as Forte and Gospel, Waltz, from some twisted AU poster Hideki Nakamura came up with, Piano, Ariga's unused OC, the Mega Man Killers, known as Enker, Punk, and Ballade, Quake Woman, from the Archie Comics and whose real name is Tempo, and don't get me started on the fanmade characters!

Actually, Capcom changed his name from Rockman to Mega Man due to legal reasons. Look up the Rockman Amplifier.
