    I forgot to mention in the video that I tried to repair the bypass capacitor for several hours (I did not record this process). Ultimately I accidentally dropped the capacitor and couldn't find it. After hours of testing the system appears to be stable and functioning normally. Hooray!

      @mikes1891  Před 3 lety +8

      I don't always do this but I had the opportunity to make the motherboard look brand new and I couldn't resist. When doing this, just be sure to remove the battery (if one exists) and most importantly make sure the board is 100% dry before powering it back on.

    • @danielbowman7226
      @danielbowman7226 Před 3 lety +19

      Yeah, I couldn't believe it too. I killed keyboards with much less. The chance of water getting inside some not-so-well-sealed capacitor or whatever far out-weights the benefits of having super clean motherboard. It will get dirty anyway and it is not like you have to look at it.

    You just blew my mind! Another person who has used Goo-Gone to remove stubborn thermal compound! 🤣 I just had to do this a couple months ago with some stubborn purple compound in an Original Xbox, gnarliest gunk I've ever encountered in a device. 91% alcohol did nothing, nor elbow grease, but Goo-Gone made the goo GONE!
    High quality video, keep it up! 😁👍

    Much like the case tool, the X-Clamp tool makes that process MUCH easier. I fixed 2005 and 2006 Xenon Red Ring of Death boards by replacing all the large capacitors around the CPU and GPU. I also pre-emptively replaced them on a 2009, just in case.

  • @colesyaj_tech
    @colesyaj_tech Před 3 měsíci

    Replacing the HDD with SSD won't work unless the console is modded! There are some special security sectors on the 360 hard drives that are necessary. Also your board seems to be a Fixed Zephyr, one of the oldest but it shouldn't fail for years to come. But you've done an amazing job with this 360 and it's quite nice to watch

  • @gilbert3579

    Great Video!!!! I love these kinds of restorations. Quick Tip: You don't necessarily have to replace the CD belt if it's slipping. You can boil it then let it cool it will return to it's original round shape. The YT channel OddTinkering does a restoration and shows this.

    Awesome work. Recently got into this hobby too and not a bad place to start w/ my old 360. I didn’t have one of those nifty xbox 360 tools like you had and I cracked my xbox’s outer shell. Do you know where I can buy a replacement?

    • @mikes1891
      @mikes1891  Před 3 lety

      @Jonathan Depending on the severity of the crack, it might be worth trying a quick repair with super glue. You could use a damp paper towel to wipe up any glue that's visible on the outside. Otherwise, eBay is my go-to for hard to find replacement parts. It looks like both white and black shells are available for $10-$20 US. Search: xbox 360 case shell

  • @C0smicr3aper

    Man, why do people use anti static brushes (you would have to really go crazy with a non anti static brush to actually produce a high enough charge to destroy any components, hardware, or ics, most of the time anything under 5 volts isn't going to do anything since everything has to be able to have at least that much power going through it to actually run), but then use water and soap to WASH the motherboard. 99 percent ipa or electrical contact cleaner works way better and you don't risk water being lodged within the pcb or degrading the COPPER and other metals inside your hardware. People are pretty dumb when they do that and they don't even realize. I don't care how much you evaporate, some residual water and soap can always be left behind. People, stop washing pcbs with soap and water, please.

    • @mikes1891
      @mikes1891  Před 3 lety

      Thank you for sharing your experience. I will do more research take take caution moving forward. I agree that ESD brushes likely aren't needed when water or IPA is involved as the liquid should prevent any static build up anyway.

    Bro don't use tap water to wash the motherboard, it has minerals in it that could potentially short the motherboard. Use rubbing alcohol instead it evapourates completely much faster and doesn't contain the same minerals like tap water does

    Just restored an Xbox 360 I got for $40 and these console do a good job at holding dust due to all the little holes. I truly have fun restoring these Xbox 360 systems a lot! Great video and smart idea washing the board honestly! As long as it’s discharged and left to dry it won’t be an issue. People need to stop panicking over it.

    • @mikes1891
      @mikes1891  Před 3 lety

      Yes! You can open the back without the tool. It will require some patience but you can do it! You’ll need a flat head screw driver small enough to poke into the flat holes and guitar pick or some other thin stiff material like an index card or piece of plastic. Basically you’ll work from the outside of the Xbox in toward the center undoing one clip at a time. Once you start getting the clips you can use the index card/guitar pick/plastic to help keep the two pieces from clipping back together. You may want to start with the power cord side first. Good luck!
