Hola, Spain lovers! We're James and Yoly. James is a New Zealander, and Yoly is from Spain. And we both live in Madrid. I still feel full from my Toledo adventure! Let me know - which looked like the best place to you? 🎉👇🏽
This video just made my Sunday! 😚👌
All of them looked good, but the Skala would probably be my pick. Thanks for posting and felicidades for the little one.
Skala looked like the tastiest to me. Yum!
The food and drink from Barrio looks very appealing to me. And Clandestino, too.
Skala would be my choice as I like to pick understated places and be surprised. But all of them are valid places and I really hope to make a trip to Toledo to get to know it. Saluti da Verona
I still fondly recall my introduction to gazpacho Toledano at Hostel del Cardinale forty five years ago!!!
I'm sure that was an experience!
You are my eyes in Spain, so I try to absorb as much as I can from your videos. You and Yoli provide a well rounded balance because you give history as well. Thank you.
James, I'm stuffed just watching you! This was a great whirlwind tour!
Oh my goodness. How on earth do you get all that food inside you! Respect! Just love the sights and flavour of Spain. Muchas gracias! X
This has been so informative and helpful. We're coming to Toledo for 3 nights and I've already spent the best part of 4 days looking at restaurants, their locations and reviews = what a mind-boggling slog! Then I found this. You serve a medal (and a medical!) for your art and heart. I'm feeling stuffed by proxy...Great job, terrfic idea.
I watched this 3 times because I kept getting interrupted, and now I am hungry. Nice presentation.
Thank you!!!
Well done. Was missing those videos. I’m glad you also finally had one of my favorite wine in the cheese museum *la Atalaya de la tierra*
Glad you enjoyed it!
thanks for showing us Toledo! was there for a short "tour" visit in 1993...loved it! Wow! those streets and the ambience, and the food and wine. I WANT to visit Spain again after watching your show!
That was really enjoyable.....I'm FULL!
Wow.! The variety of wines, cheeses, and regional foods is mind-twisting.! After the tastings, no doubt one particular place will emerge as one's favorite but it'll take months to experiment with them all. Exploring restaurants, especially in a city which is famous for its cuisine, must be really hard. Good thing we benefit from an expert that narrows it down to a precious few.! Thank you, sir.!
Brilliant! Love Toledo. Need to explore these places. Thank you, James!
Thank you mate!
When we visited Toledo we couldn't believe how many museums it had. And loads of swords. We visited Sentos in Alicante recently and absolutely loved their modern takes on tapas. Cathy and Kevs x
We visited Toledo for the first time during the last week in November and had three great meals. The amount of wild game on the menus was a pleasant surprise. The city was very quiet. (We felt like we had the Alcazar all to ourselves and walked right into the cathedral with no wait.) The most disappointing thing was not being able to find a quiet place for coffee. We had no luck in that respect.
Love the channel. Looking forward to your next video.
Marvelous and mind blowing video. My wife and I will be there on March 2024. Hope to see you there. We love you both.
What an amazing trip
Certainly a filling one!
Great to see you back! All the best to your family.
Thank you so much for including Mr. Creosote, LOL. I tend to like the funky places with great food - that would be Bar Ludena and the 2nd to last place you visited. I also love Manchego, so that would be a stop as well.
We're clear into the same kind of places Carole!
Great video, you take it seriously, very professional, respectful with the locals and with a funny touch. My wife and I are hungry now. Wow, Spain is a fabulous country, thank you J&J (James and Joly) for showing it to us in such a fun and entertaining way.
Very, very nice!!! Thank you for the tour and suggestions!
Hi James, thanks a lot for the great video and all the hard work you're doing for us!
Always Love your videos! We need more of these!! You’re back in the roads again and this time, solo! Stay safe and keep going!
I was already so impressed with your former Toledo video visit and all the impressive historical sites. It is the reason why Toledo is high on my list of places to visit here in Spain. I seemed to be drawn to Bar Ludeña and the last fusion restaurant and will check them out when I go. I am shocked that you ate so many hearty dishes in quick succession. It’s a good thing that you run for exercise. I would also like to note that you managed well on your own, though I still would like to have seen Yoly there as I know she loves to taste food along with you. Great video and I will definitely drink their regional wines. Thanks!
Yeah those two were fantastic!
How's it showing 1 day old when the video itself is 5 hours old.😆

@@mizginavale22 oh I see. Thanks for the info✌️
Thanks for the tapas trail around Toledo. I especially like Bar Skala. I love manchego cheese also. I don't know how you managed to eat so much🤭
Spain is so diverse, incredible 😍
nice to see you back doing what you do best .hello from sweden
Absolutely brilliant!
Am going to do a tour with your company in September
That's a hard job you got there. Time away from the family to go have some tapas and wine. Thanks for taking the hit for the team on this one!
You never disapoint with thee amazing videos!
This is wonderful , I missed Yoly . I was so full by the end I could not get out of my chair . ( How about some bird watching next time ) Bar Ladeña More earthy , old Spain .
haha cheers Bob!
Wonderful video James! I am headed to Spain in January with students to teach a course on the history of al-Andalus; we start in Toledo, and stay at Alfonso VI - it grows on you. Looking forward to trying some of your recommendations.
what a beautiful city.. thank you
All looked amazing, I think the choux pastry with bull tail and chocolate was a winner.
Loved this video. Classic!
I visited Toledo between Xmas and New Year a few years ago and was shocked at how busy it was! Great food and so much history there, so maybe I shouldn't have been surprised.
Visiting Spain soon and Toledo is on the list. Going through many of your videos. Thanks for the wealth of information! Can't wait!
Would be interesting to see a video in Burgos 🤔
Great video James! I visited Toledo many moons ago and recall great food and incredible architecture. I like eating small meals about every two hours when I’m in Spain, sort of takes me back!😁
Toledo has always been an easy, fun day trip from Madrid, but you're right, we've never been to impressed with the food there. Thank you for putting this together! Now, we have some places to try out on our next visit to Toledo!
I hope it helps for your next trip!
Great video thanks!
Great video, as usual. It so makes me want to be back in Spain.
It looked you enjoyed it all looks gorgeous
James you always brighten my day when I watch your videos. But this one was the best.
Stopping there in September on my motorcycle tour through Spain and can't wait. I'm going to try some of those places. Good video, cheers.
Yum, gracias
You and your family are great
That was really good tour!
Congratulations you ever extends a very good foods in Spain, again congratulations.
Now I am hungry hahahahha great video as always! Definitely will rewatch soon, because I haven't been to Toledo since 2019 and it's a city I love, so I would love to do this kind of tour you did!
we can't wait to come back
Those bulls tail choux look amazing 🤩 I’m gonna make that at home
I'm so hungry right now. Some of those dishes look delicious.
Love your videos. We're going to be in Madrid and toledo in march
Omg that's a lot!! Yum
What a fun time in Toledo
Hello my friend. Just did Toledo and Madrid. Tried several dishes at several places you ate at. From the bombas in Toledo to Alberto’s Rabo and the Cocina at La Bola. Fantastic. Thanks for the top tips! 👍😎🍺 🇪🇸
Excellent
They all looked good and I think day trips from Madrid is something you should do more!
I forgot to mention Palencia de Lara, it's next to a wonderful bakery and has two different sections, a fancy classical restaurant but also a bar where you can eat some nice tapas!
We’re on our way! Thanks.
thanks for sharing James. Yery good video. Would also be curious how a Madrid tour from Yoly look like while you are in Toledo.
So may be it is interesting for young mothers in Madrid where you can go with babies and have an nice day with friends and their babies as well
Wow 😍 😍 😍 love.
Love Bar Skala❤
Absolutely fantastic food
Haha -- High goo level -- will use that one next time when I go to a new place ...
Intense eating.. looks great .. unfortunately I only stayed a day-trip before having to fly home. Hope to re-visit Toledo. that old center and some of it's hills and street stones will wear a person out. Great video.
Love your life, James haha. Saludos desde Helsinki!
Fantastic video James! Thanks for stuffing yourself so we can travel with you. I am so glad you didn’t explode :)
My pleasure!!!
You’re so funny!! “Just kill me now”.🤣🤣🤣
Ingredients in the bag for carcamusa on Tuesday!!! Like a traditional chorizo and potato stew but less veg and more meat! Thanks for introducing me to that. 👍👍
Excellent! Let us know how it goes!!
Coffee in Toledo must be from Il Cappuccino.
Coffee usually just dissappointed me, when we visited Spain this autumn. But a friend gave us the tip to fetch one from Il Cappuccino. A tiny place in the middle of Toledo, which only sells coffee.
I swear, this coffee alone makes up all the bad coffees I had!
I want to try it all James. Love this and looks like you had Toledo all to yourself. Love this, thank you ❤️
Cocktail on the house... someone's been bribed !!! :-)
All the places look amazing, but i would love to go to La Orza just to try the game meat dishes - they look very rich - and try some regional flavors.
Great tips as always! Thank you so much for the video, James! Can't wait to be back in Spain! Greetings from Brazil :)
We just booked Toledo we arrive in Madrird next week we also have a youtube channel called a couple of kiwis. So nice to hear ypur voice
My GOD I need to try that bull tail-apple-chocolate choux! Jesus what a genius combination. *drools in poor*
It was really good!
Lucena would be for me!👍
Nice video James. I am just imaging how all that food tasted.
I can't wait to eat my way through the entire country!!!!!
James all the food looked appetising tasty and good. Where did you put it all. Must be in your pocket
Great video. We are going for Christmas. We have a little dog and would love to know recommendations for the best place with outside terraces.
Great video with all that fantastic food, I would be asking... dónde está el baño
Ahhh Toledo ... can't recall where we ate but it wasn't anywhere fancy. Just found it walking around the back alleys. Nice terraza, good service and value. Food was OK as well.
Sounds like the perfect discovery
I guess I should not have watched this before having dinner here in the US...now too hungry! Can't wait to visit Toledo in May. James - will you be listing the places you went to in the notes section? Many thanks again
You should have shown the exact wines you've been taking. Next time, please, give us the list for improving the information you give. Thank you!
You have convinced me! Toledo is the place to go! Madrid? What's that?
I ate a lovely sopa castellana in Toledo, as part of the menu del dia. I don’t know how it was compared to other restaurants, but I really liked it although the texture was a liitle unusual.
I once had a similar corduroy shirt..in a off brown color..
I’m guessing your next videos will be from Rehab!! 🤣😂😅 I’m so impressed with your effort! CHAMPION!!!
I'll check out Bar Skala in Toledo in 3 weeks on my next trip to Spain. I'll be staying in Malaga, Cadiz, Caceres, Toledo, Los Alcazares and Nerja before heading back to Malaga. Spain has to be the best country in the world for Pork dished which I love. Can't wait to try pork Cheeks again in Andalucia. Another great video, cheers from Canada.
James - yuuuummmms! Toledo may not be a gastronomic destination, but I had the best croquetas of my life there (good goo factor, bursting with flavour). Delicious extras that may or may not have been part of my order, an unbelievably good local wine; also loved the casual friendliness of the staff. A great meal in a teeny tiny unassuming place - will share the resto name once I locate it again! I appreciate a gamut of restos from old/traditional to new and liked all your stops. Barrio leans to my kind of food, but man, the others looked pretty delicious. Thank you!
Glad you've had some good experiences!!
Those bull tail profiteroles 🤤🤤🤤
Good review of some of my home city's restaurants and bars!!! for next time there arw some good restaurants and bars outside the old city's walls (Toledo is not only the old city) that are highly recommended such as El Peñon (at the feet of the walls) or El Telón and La Masia in Santa Barbara neighborhood (the one where train station is near to) or some good bars and restaurants in Santa Maria de Benquerencia (also known in Toledo as El Polígono), Buenavista, San Antón-Av Europa, Santa Teresa or El Valle/Cigarrales neighborhoods
Thank you Albert! Noted for next time :)
Hi! I'm loving your videos, finding them very helpful for planning our first visit to Spain later this year. Thanks so much for doing this work! Could you let me know, please, how allergies are handled when dining out? I'm a native Spanish speaker (am Puerto Rican, but can converse with Spanish friends), so I imagine it won't be too difficult to actually tell people I'm allergic to tree nuts. However, I understand some countries may be better than others at understanding the seriousness of this and knowing what dishes should or shouldn't be served (e.g., I believe some of the foods you've showcased have pistachios ground into a sauce, so it may not be immediately obvious that it contains tree nuts). I also wanted know how feasible it is to slow down a server, bar tender, or store clerk to check on this issue when they may be super busy managing tons of customers... Is there any advice you can offer on this? I appreciate your guidance :) Stay safe!
😮💨😮💨😮💨 que lindo toledo
I can't wait to go! The Euro looks like it has gone down compared to North American currencies.
Carcasas😋😋😋😋👏👏👏
La próxima vez prueba La Cave está cerca Bar Ludeña creo que te gustará.
I am curious to find the "Director's Cut" of what you REALLY did away from the family. Can you please do the same for Santiago de Compostela so that I know what to look for. Well done as always!!
O Gato Negro, seafood like nowhere else, but try to book a table in advance or sharpen your elbows for a crowded bar. Hope you like it.
@@jotade2098 thanks for the suggestion!!
Are these breaded tapas made in-house or bought from Metro and "freezer to fryer"?
Hey James, me and my wife are in skala and I can't agree with you, the food in this place is really grease and for that without too much flavor, but other recommendation were good
