You inspired us to create it and you have been one of my favorite youtubers for a long time. Keep up the great work and i would love to see you build another bushcraft camp step-by-step once you move!
That is an awesome knife. The back story of it being given to you by someone close to you is special. I'd keep that until you're his age and pass it off to your grandchild.
I can relate Joe, the wife, myself, and 3 daughters lived many years paycheck to paycheck. Had big break a couple years ago and at 48, I bought my first house, then two new cars, Hawaiian vacations, etc...... Changed our lives. The break did not come easy, we worked hard for it for many, many years, like you. I tell you what though, we appreciate everything we have because of where we come from. I believe good things happen to good people in due time, God's timing. I am thankful we were rich in family first when we had nothing because that is what's most important. I am truly happy for you sir and God bless.
I recognize that knife! There used to be an outdoors store in Ottawa called The Laurentian Trading Post. They had boats, firearms, big fishing and camping section, it was an amazing place to go as a little kid. I went with my mom to pick up a fishing knife for my uncle as a present and bought that exact knife. I'm going to say about 1978 or so. Of course, Dad pointed out it wasn't the kind of knife my uncle was wanting as a fish knife and we went back and bought a fillet knife with a blaze orange handle. I didn't understand why anyone would want a knife that bends over a strong, rigid blade so was perplexed and disappointed. The Normark just looked so much better to me, even if it didn't have a cross guard (I blame Peter Pan for my misguided affection at the time for full cross guards since they obviously make a knife capable of taking on sword wielding pirates). Instead of returning the Normark, I think it went to a different uncle that Christmas, but I don't recall ever seeing it again. I was positive the Lion crest had to mean King Richard the Lionheart, and not the Lion of Finland. Pretty sure Canadian Tire carried these as well.
Joe, already one of if not the best Bushcraft CZcams channels, and then you add that intro.......BAM SON! Next level brother......keep up the awesome work.
Bruhhh... when you said you where tearing it down my heart actually sank lol wtf why wouldn’t you just leave it? Could come in very useful for someone in future
I believe I watched every video in this series. I hated to see you tear it down but I also understand and respect you and your reasoning. The video you had the canoe and went fishing where you were at looked so much like a place my family of birth and I went several times on vacation. I wish I were young enough and health enough to do it again. I am 74 years old so I'll watch you and others and continue to enjoy with you.
Love the intro, real professional like. All you need now is a wireless mic or something, to get an even volume through the whole video. Damn tired of adjusting the volume up and down all the time haha :P
I will remember youuuuu, will you remember meee... [holding upp a lighter and swaying] Sometimes you gotta leave good things behind to get to the better. I'll drink my cup of joe to you and your natural shelter this morning, Joe!
Hi Joe. I'm 71 and a lifelong resident of Alabama, USA. When in my early twenties KMART opened one of their stores in our area. They sold the Fiskers knife in their sporting goods for a couple of years. Always wished I had bought one.
This video brought me back to a few years ago when I first started watching your videos... The simple idea of a regular guy in the forest using a few tools to process wood, build a shelter, demonstrate some bushcraft techniques, highlight a few pieces of choice gear, banter about random life stuff, drink a couple specialty beers and cook a steak in any weather...throw in a rainstorm or heavy snowfall, and I'm glued to my tv for a good hour or two. Please keep making more videos like this one, Joe.
it's 1967. The "Normark" is a well known and frequently sought-for by the knife-enthusiasts manly for collection's today. Some say that was the best knife Fiskars ever made.
I kid you not, I have this very same normark/fiskars knife from my father. He’s only about 60 at the moment. He said he used it when he was in polish scouts near Algonquin when he was about 15-20. The year on mine is too blocky to read in the leather, but I imagine it’s ~70s, unless his father had it before him. I think his father may have bought it for him. Same knife, though. This was such a cool thing to see in your vid! Let me know if you find more info on it! I’ll ask my father about it, and possibly report back! Small world.
I also have the same knife. My dad also passed on to me, pretty cool🔪. I've used it for everything (hunting/fishing). I noticed you mentioned Algonquin? Are you from Ontario (Canada) as well?
I'd say it's from the Swedish coat of arms since Nordmark is a Swedish company but like someone else mentioned they do a lot of collabs and have been before. And Fiskars is Finnish. But considering its Swedish/Finnish and they both have lions...
You've worked for that house and property! You have every right to be excited and going about it. I've just started watching a few days ago and I've already decided I'm going to get back in shape to be able to go out and do the things i used to enjoy so much as you do now.
I've noticed from the start, that you are very conscious of keeping the area around you neat and clean. You put wrappers in your pockets to make sure there is no paper and scraps left on the ground to blow away and make where
Leave no trace is a common principle many outdoor enthusiasts share. We have all been to places littered with garbage, and see how much it can negatively affect everything from the scenery to the local ecosystem.
@@Adrianyoutubing Yeah, because using a tent made in a factory that requires how many litres of oil leaves such a smaller footprint on the environment. Bigger picture, my friend 🙏
What a shame that you have to tear down such a fantastic camp site...I love how you have taken the time to explain the safety issues when using the axe...not everyone takes the time to explain things like this. You are SO Fortunate to live in an area where there are so many Straight Trees like this, they are perfect for building Lean To’s..
I bought a similar (almost identical) knife in Sweden back in 1968..but, mine was taken from my by a Mexican Guard at one of their State Borders in 1975..I miss that knife, it was a beauty. I can see why you love that knife and it will always remind you of your Grandpa Ron (even tho he is actually an old neighbor!)...we can all relate to your feelings on that.
Watching these videos give me a sense of comfort and stability, it feels kinda like a father and son bonding moment, something I never had much of when I was growing up! It’s honestly been a dream of mine to go out into the wilderness, build a shelter and survive the night. Always wanted to learn how to do it and tbh watching these videos gave me confidence to try it out, I really think as another idea for his channel that he takes other youtubers on the platform (who aren’t wildlife experts) and teaching them how to build shelters and ultimately showing them a new world and things they take for granted, I know for certain I would be down to experience this first hand and I’m sure I’m not the only one ! Keep up the good work man!
Cool knife. I have a Normark knife very similar to that one. It is a filet knife, but has the same sheath and handle. I got it from my grandpa. It's very old, but still looks brand new only the sheath is darker from all the times I've oiled it. Glad you like your knife 2. Just went and checked my knife, it says made in Finland on Corp 1967. The blade is 4 inches long and it is very stiff for a filet knife. Wish I could drop a picture in the comments
I have that same knife. Got it at Canadian Tire in 1983. Still abusing it. Great knife. I believe it was about $30. Haven't seen them since. They had a fillet knife in the same design.
Hi Joe, like Detsteve I had the same knife. Also bought it at Canadian Tire in the early 80's. It was my bush knife until I lost it in a house fire about 15 years later. Loved it, great knife. The only problem I ever had was it falling off the belt loop. The triangular metal link needs watching.
Man this video is an end of an era! The first video I watched of yours was when you first made this and it was snowing. It inspired me to finally take the next step and really improve my bushcraft/ survival skills. Because of it, I started going out by myself into the pinelands and pushing myself, using minimal gear, and really challenging myself to stay the whole night. It's sad to see it go, but with the end of an old era comes the arrival of a new one. I can't wait for your adventures to come- and my own! (Also I love your new intro)
Wassup joe! Awesome video, getting ready for the fall season. Not to cold not to hot. Perfect camping weather! With cool nights and warm days , loving the new intro, cheers man!

The very first video I saw of yours was your first trip to this location, I enjoying it so much I immediately watched about 6 hours worth of other videos! I got so excited when you re-visited it and was gutted for you when you had to leave early for family reasons. I love this location and I’m going to miss it as I’m sure you will! Thanks for the awesome video, nice way to pay homage to the shelter! Fair well old faithful! Take it easy Joe!
That's a nice knife. On the sheet it has The heraldic symbol of the Finnish defence force and says "Made on Finland Corp 1967". It is made by nomark, witch is a company owned by Fiskars. BTW all Marttinis Are not filet knifes. There are also just regular Finnish style puukkos and I've seen a couple of leukus (a beefy, traditional hack-and-slash-knife originally from Lapland.) Also, "A Swedish Finnish style"? For some reason I find that extremely funny. Anyway, greetings from Finland! Great video, keep it up man!

Midland Englander. In our area we drink so much tea that we might have had an argument and accept a cuppa almost as a matter of course. However, talking out a personal argument with someone is almost always done over a cuppa. I'l 68 years old and I can remember times when we would do just that. I don't know about the refusal if we're not alright though; I personally never turn down a cuppa.👍🤗
The Fiskars Normark is a good all-around knife. I had one exactly like yours. Most web sites/auction sites date this knife from 1967, so possibly that is a '6' on the sheath. I did use mine to fillet fish but Normark also offered a true fillet knife. Possibly the handle material is a phenolic resin. I always had trouble keeping knives sharp but I never felt that this one held an edge all that well. Maybe it is just that the stainless alloys of that day were famously difficult to sharpen, at least in comparison to carbon steel. The knives were widely available in good sporting supply stores and they were popular 'upmarket' versions of the birch handled Fiskars/Rapala knives. Maybe I just could not make mine work so well as you are able to.
Hi joe just want to say thank you for all the hard work and effort you put into your videos . me and my son love watching them and we are now looking into getting a kit to start off . thanks again and keep up the great job .
It’s a good thing you did, Joe. That was the right decision. Sad to see the camp go, yet impermanence is part of life. The memories (and video!) will live on.
I was lazy one night and just rolled out a tarp on the ground camping one night in the Dolly Sods Wilderness. Drinking too much probably contributed to this as well. I woke up to not only a severe thunderstorm where I had to roll myself into the tarp like a human burrito to stay dry, but I had so many spider bites on my arm that it was numb for 2 weeks. When I saw the size of the spiders that caused those bites... NEVER AGAIN!

It's a nice thing that you can be familiar with 800 000 people and include us. I'm hoping that 1 million mark comes soon!
the intro is insanely good
Love the intro. Me and my friends spent a few weeks building a similar replica of your bushcraft camp but with 2 leantos instead of one!
Josh Hales what are you talking about he is the best bushcraft youtuber
Josh Hales yea I read your comment wrong you said exactly what I said😂 still at least we think alike
And hell yeah we want Scrambled O to come back. Maybe you can get him to come up for a visit when you're settled into your new digs?
Bruhhh... when you said you where tearing it down my heart actually sank lol wtf why wouldn’t you just leave it? Could come in very useful for someone in future
I believe I watched every video in this series. I hated to see you tear it down but I also understand and respect you and your reasoning. The video you had the canoe and went fishing where you were at looked so much like a place my family of birth and I went several times on vacation. I wish I were young enough and health enough to do it again. I am 74 years old so I'll watch you and others and continue to enjoy with you.
Love the intro, real professional like. All you need now is a wireless mic or something, to get an even volume through the whole video. Damn tired of adjusting the volume up and down all the time haha :P
Yep, you are correct
Agree! Looove the intro, haaate that volume issue... since like 2014. Haha, love ya Joe.
I will remember youuuuu, will you remember meee... [holding upp a lighter and swaying]
Sometimes you gotta leave good things behind to get to the better. I'll drink my cup of joe to you and your natural shelter this morning, Joe!
That's great how you look after and treat the Forrest with respect and honor.
The lion on the sheath is the heraldic lion from Finland's Coat of Arms.
good call!
I'd say it's from the Swedish coat of arms since Nordmark is a Swedish company but like someone else mentioned they do a lot of collabs and have been before. And Fiskars is Finnish. But considering its Swedish/Finnish and they both have lions...
Perhaps, but the image on the knife looks so similar to the lions on Finland's COA's. I found many images
You've worked for that house and property! You have every right to be excited and going about it. I've just started watching a few days ago and I've already decided I'm going to get back in shape to be able to go out and do the things i used to enjoy so much as you do now.
Congratulations Joe on the move and the new baby. Wish you and your family all the best. And we need Scrambled O back all the way! Love Scrambled O!
That's a really cool intro, Joe! Looks great! Thanks for always making great videos!
Joe has much respect for Doug he won't chew and talk at the same time😂 thanks Doug 👌
Hardly leave no trace when you build a house out of wood...
@@Adrianyoutubing Yeah, because using a tent made in a factory that requires how many litres of oil leaves such a smaller footprint on the environment. Bigger picture, my friend 🙏
@@Adrianyoutubing that's why he will tear it down when he's not going to go back anymore.
I know im 2 years late. I love this camp, Its so nice. Some people could live in that.
For some reason the slug part killed me “PEACE!” *chucks slug* 😂😂😂
Sad to see it go but cant wait for the new adventures in your next journey brother!
watch in 30 or 40 years he will be back setting up a new lean to ... and broadcasting it to everyone ... so i lied i came back ... lol
You should take the old man out on a trip
Doug was out on the last trip.
Kaotic did you, by chance, miss the last video? He had him out then.
I think he means the neighbor.
Does Doug look like 80 to you? ;) I think he was talking about his old neighbor
Those big mushrooms under your sleeping platform are works of art.
Miss the fort and miss you joe heal up and get stronger brother
Love the new intro!
It's a normark fiskars "field series " hunter, that stamp is 1967. I know it appears as 57 but I think that's the way is worn.
I thought it said '67 as well. None the less, thanks for clarifying
I say 1987
I had one growing up in the 70's Great filet knife
They called it a field series fish knife i believe. I could be thinking of a different model tho.
I agree Chad Morgan, it does look more like 1967
Come back Scrambled O'
It is my favorite time of the year too! I come alive after the hot summer. Thank you for sharing this part of your life with us!!
My whole house is such a big fan.
Dude! Nice open! Way to step up the game. Can’t wait to watch the episode while at work today!
How much do you get paid for watching this video
Razor Gamer I’m self employed so technically nothing. Darn it.
@Chris Meyers good to know. Thanks Chris
I've just watch all the videos with this camp from start to finish and I must say it have made me want to be a bushcrafter my self.
So proud to be from Finland when you showed that old Finnish knife.
I'm new to the channel... I'm Scottish and loving it! But I'm curious which British shows Joe's been watching? Loving the channel!
??
Love the intro!
I have that same knife. Got it at Canadian Tire in 1983. Still abusing it. Great knife. I believe it was about $30. Haven't seen them since. They had a fillet knife in the same design.
Nice! thanks for the info!!!
@@josephallen19 looks like it 1989 to me. You can google them they come up in a search.
its 1967

beautiful knife..
BEAUTIFUL KNIFE WOW!!! AMAZING, WHO'S A LUCKY BOY... ROB IS, VERY DESERVING TOO!!! JUST A BEAUTIFUL THING!!!
I’m British and from Leeds, West Yorkshire and i’ll have a cup of tea no matter what the occasion!!!!
Not ON Corp. The Circle is the Normark logo. It's N Corp, for Normark. It is their 9 1/2" hunting knife.
Wow, I LOVE the new intro, video is crisp and clean.
So excited to watch this video from TEXAS!
#robinet #robinetoutdoors
Thanks for another installment in your adventures Joe, hope you're keeping well?
Big feels re the move, Ron and the family obviously mean a lot to you and your family. Always hard to leave neighbours like that.
(Also I love your new intro)
yeah tea is for keeping the peace, but dont always say it that way haha xD
Wassup joe! Awesome video, getting ready for the fall season. Not to cold not to hot. Perfect camping weather! With cool nights and warm days , loving the new intro, cheers man!
love your content Joe, your video's inspire me to do more out in the wild ive watched many of your uploads and not one of them ive got bored of keep it up! this shelter will be missed✌🏼️
I love how chill Joe is.
Joe, Haze just tagged you in a “Show us your steak challenge”. That new steak spice will make it greeeaatttt!!
Us Brits never say no to a cuppa tea, even if we are angry with the person offering it to us ☕️😂 Your British accent is getting better mate, keep practicing 😃
it is so nice to see someone just enjoy the green. so few do anymore. really like your vids, firstly because I learn alot... second and most important.. because you take so much pleasure in your surroundings. vry enjoyable.
From a British person, yes tea solves all problems and quarrels.
Love you’re videos!!
Base camp nostalgia ♥
Great to see you with the pep in yo step, bohy 😎
*Hi from Finland!*
I tried to find information on the puukko in Finnish but there really wasn't much anything, surprisingly. Just a one sales ad (www.tori.fi/satakunta/Fiskars_Puukko_vuodelta_1967_50253223.htm) on a Finnish ebay-like website:
_"Onko kyseessä maailman ensimmäinen puukko jossa muovikahva? Sitä en osaa sanoa, eikä ole todisteita, koska todistajat ovat jo haudassa! RIP!_
_"Olin pikkupoika noin 40 vuotta sitten kun kuulin lahjanantajan sanovan isälleni että älä hukkaa tätä koskaan, että tämä on erittäin arvokas!"_
_Myydään asiantuntijalle joka keräilee esim.puukkoja._
_Hinnasta neuvotellaan sitten tarkemmin!"_
Translated to English:
_"Could this be the worlds first puukko/knife with a plastic handle? That I can't say, and there's no evidence because the witnesses are already dead! RIP!_
_"I was a little boy about 40 years ago when I heard a person giving gift to my dad saying "Do not ever lose this, this is very valuable!"_
_This will be sold to an expert who collects for example, puukkoja/knifes._
_The price will be discussed more!"_
Then this in English: www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/fiskars-normark-finland-1967-puukko-1821671746
_"FISKARS-NORMARK, Finland-1967 Puukko style hunting knife, orig leather sheath_
_Vintage 4-3/4" blade hunting knife made by FISKARS-NORMARK - modern stile with traditional Puukko knife lines; made in 1967 in Finland. In Scandinavian countries the Lapp Puukko (knife) is well known and highly esteemed. The Lapland people live in very harsh and challenging environment; long ago they developed a multi-purpose survival knife - the Puukko. Puukko is comfortable to work with gloves on or off; it is simple but practical, lightweight, durable and is made for day-to day use._
_This knife is about 9-1/4" / 23.5 cm overall; the blade is about 4-3/4" / 12 cm. Black plastic handle with bronze guard and pommel (guard in dated 1967); the handle is tight with zero movement. Stainless steel blade is etched on one side with the company logo; the edge has been lightly re-touched, it is RAZOR-sharp; the tip is intact. Original 1967-dated leather sheath is in very good overall condition with all stitching intact; it is in 100% serviceable condition still."_
Research on point 👍
Great information
It did look like the date on the sheath was 1967 instead of 57’.
Good looking out👍thanks for the info yo,
The “swallowing spiders in your sleep” is actually a myth. Still I don’t blame you on getting rid of the webs. I recently subbed to your channel I like the shelter builds I wanna do one myself.
Congratulations on your success and your new home. I'm sure many of your subscribers are looking forward to seeing you "bushcraft" your own croquet set from your own trees! Have fun with all the new projects.
James Ellsworth i agree it did look more like a 6.
I also thought it was 67.
you're such an entertaining Joe, i love it 😂
Hi joe just want to say thank you for all the hard work and effort you put into your videos . me and my son love watching them and we are now looking into getting a kit to start off . thanks again and keep up the great job .
Archangel07 Right on man! Get outside and intimidate the forest.
It’s a good thing you did, Joe. That was the right decision. Sad to see the camp go, yet impermanence is part of life. The memories (and video!) will live on.
I remember watching that video when you built this, R.I.P. to a great place but many more to come
The eating spiders in your sleep thing is an hoax, one of the first internet hoaxes.
A hoax looong before internet ;)
I was lazy one night and just rolled out a tarp on the ground camping one night in the Dolly Sods Wilderness. Drinking too much probably contributed to this as well. I woke up to not only a severe thunderstorm where I had to roll myself into the tarp like a human burrito to stay dry, but I had so many spider bites on my arm that it was numb for 2 weeks. When I saw the size of the spiders that caused those bites... NEVER AGAIN!
y2k bug was a hoax!!!!
Then again, woman in the States had brown recluse removed from her ear last month.
Thanks joe for inspiring me to get out and adventure!
Im curious why you wouldn't want to leave it standing? Could save someone's life one day no?
I can't wait to see kids of you teaching your daughter bush craft!
I'm in the loop to rewatching all my favorite videos of yours
