As far as I know, (to add to the debate) your PORTage is what you carry along the portAGE. PORTage is gear.

Get an "outer wear" for your air filter I believe that is what they are called but it's a flexible screen/mesh material that covers your air filter. It will totally save you a lot of air filter cleaning.

Been riding ATVs since I was like 6 years old. Since you asked for advice just thought I'd offer a little help. One it looks like you look for neutral then put it back into 1st after you find neutral, the reason the shift pattern is one down the rest up is so you don't have to do that. Just keep tapping it down and you know you're in first. Also don't bother finding neutral when you shut it off. Just shut it off in first then before you start it again find neutral, it's a lot easier when it's not running and if it's refusing to change gears while it's not running just rock it forward and backward a touch that will take any tension off the gears and it will change gears then, and really the only reason to want neutral is if you are cold starting it and want it to idle up to working temperature. If it's already hot just start it in first and go. Pretty familiar with this particular model and I believe (unless things have changed) it only has a clutch safety switch on the starter not a neutral safety switch. Also I'd recommend gearing it down if it's mostly going to be off road that just makes sense to get more torque at the expense of top speed. Pretty simple modification you just want to look for a larger rear sprocket and a smaller front sprocket. That will also help keep you from stalling out. Shouldn't be too expensive even if you don't do it yourself. You already mentioned reducing the ride height I think that's a good idea. Finding a way to do that without getting smaller wheels/tires would be the best way as those bigger tires are going to make it easier to go over larger obstacles (downed trees, stones, etc.) Sacrificing suspension will suck but learn to ride rough terrain with your butt off the seat just a few inches then your legs can act as additional suspension. Other than that I'd say take all your extra gear off of the bike and ride it. Can't beat experience and you'll minimize what you can damage by not having that stuff on there. Last bit of advice. There are lots of things to get more power out of these motors but the biggest problem you are going to run into if you go down that path is finding someone who can actually still tune a carburetor. Every power mod will require the carburetor to need adjustment and lots of people think they know what they are doing but don't. And yes that includes "professional" shops. So just leave that stock/OEM until you find someone you know you can trust.

You should also get risers for your bars to help you when you stand up and ride you will use the stand method of riding off road because you can see more that’s coming like trees bushes roots and always keep your eyes a head of you not where your front wheel is because you will focus so much at every lil thing on the ground clutch play is a big thang to that’s just practice tho you could also put a recluse clutch in the bike so if you go down it won’t hurt it to stay in gear tubes in the tires are nice as well so you won’t ever have flats

When your out in the woods or hitting some ruff areas stand up on your pegs and you won’t get hit as much and helps you control the bike better
