Very few young people have a musical culture and you have to explain these very basic things. I wish they knew about Roger Troutman's legacy. I personally hate autotune because it cancels out the talent of the artist in terms of his voice, instead the talkbox is such a magical effect that it is a pleasure to the ear.
If it's done right ,autotune wouldn't sound so bad look at t pain and travis scott

autotune is an effect not a crutch. T-pain and travis scott use it because they like the creative ability it gives them, but both of them have good voices and travis can rap well without autotune

Why did that vocoder sound different? Because I thought a vocoder was you talk into the microphone and it gives your voice almost that choir effect.

▫️Talkbox came out early 1970s
▫️Auto-tune came out late 90s
🔹(the software-based vocoder emulators and plug-ins _are_ more recent...but even still nowadays, _most_ are still using actual hardware vocoders)

Ok, here in my country there's an abuse of such sounds effects in trap songs sang in the local language and some new generations of born after 2000s think they sound great while there are people like you that actually know how to ti use properly these instumente.
