I am a music teacher about to use this video to explain the difference between Vocoder and Talkbox!
I love that you can hear the difference between the two systems. Jake used the vocoder's ability to have sharp note starts/ends to good effect, while Swatkins does the same with singing slightly before/after the keyboard note. The subtle differences at the extremes of the note range as well.
I don't think anybody lost, this slaps!

Probably not everyone's taste but definitely mine. Love it! Very much reminds me of Herbie Hancock around 1980, e. g. Feets Don't Fail me Now.
I also love those little details, e. g. Jake's cheat sheet, Swatkins' mobile phone and of course the tambourine on the Rob's hi-hat.
As a keyboardist this would be my ultimate Scary Pocket. Thank you, Steve and thank you Jake for your talent. Thank you, Jack Conte, for your vision (and talent) and bringing all of these phenomenal musicians together. I've been following since the days of "Hey, It's Pamplamoose".

After enjoying this a LOT, I finally figured out what it sounds like: A funk duet between (Swatkins) a digitized human, & (Sherman) a sapient robot. lol
Ryan and Jack are dialled in as if they were actually reffing this battle. No low blows!

I've waited 25 years for this and love you both. I Lose! Got the best versions of both of these "effects" but never learned to play an instrument well.
Swatkins: "I'm afraid to disagree but I must insist: you lose 'cause I'm the best, can't you seee."
Jake: "And I took that personally."
The guitar licks - so minmal so perfect. Great musical moment from everyone.
If you haven't done so already, I highly recommend the book "How to Wreck a Nice Beach" by Dave Tompkins, which traces the history of vocoding and all other techniques used to mimic voice in both music and speech processing. A terrific read. It's a lot deeper than you think. (The title is a play on the phrase "how to recognize speech")
