@@swanclipper Please just shut up. You brought nothing relevant to the thread. It could've been autocorrect working its magic, we just can't know. I'm sure we all know what he meant.
Hey Jake, chances of you seeing this are low but just glad you're here, im 14 now but me and my sister have been watching you and Vsauce for years now, through Apps All Knight, to your cancer to filmmaking we've been through it all and STILL love watching your videos. happy your here dude :)
Because the wires are spiraled in opposite directions (clockwise and counterclockwise) they are now intrinsically connected. The only way to separate them would be to manually unwind one from the other. Pulling the wires just causes them to rotate against each other, and the momentum moves your fingers down the wire like a conveyor belt. The same thing happens with the key ring. However, if you placed a mark on one of the wires with a sharpie, you would see that section spin around in a circle, the mark would not end up at the end of the wire.
You make me feel so bad about losing my complete will to work and productivity over this last year. I love your tattoos, you should give us a rundown. Keep being the strength that some need to go on even though I can lift myself anymore.
First of all total respect for you and your channel. Second I see you like quality things as I see the Roland drum kit behind you, myself I have what looks like the same kit as well. Keep up the great work 😊.
Hands moving away from center, causing the opposite wound springs to rotate in one direct, allowing the washer to travel on said rotation. The 2 springs are diff, one has a right hand twist, the other left. One stretched spring off the shelf would not rotate in this way.
No, The shirt black spot say "FAR" for the most part with a bit of fudge on the letters (look the L), but there is a small grey outline that read "CLOSE" and when it's close enough, your brain pick up those letters. But when he step back you stop noticing the outline and just see the big "FAR".
@@BoojumFed Could be many things, first can you see distinctly the lines "close" now that i told you they exists ? If you don't at all, you may need glass, get closer to your phone or the compression of the video was too bad to see the illusion. Another likely explanation : you may see the shirt exactly for what it is. If you just see an hot mess that neither saw really "close" nor "far" you might just not be susceptible to that illusion. If you have more question, i'll be around.
Hey Jake! I doubt you remember me but I met you a few years ago at Jamba Juice in Eagle Rock. I just wanted to say thank you so much for being SO chill and taking the time to take a photo with me. I truly appreciate it 🙏🏾 Hope you're doing well! Best of luck to you bro 🤙🏾
Easy. Wires are fixed. Pulling on the wire allow the spiral to rotate in the fingers offering the illusion that is infinitely pulling apart. It’s the sliding of the fingers on the wire from center outward toward the ends that causes the twisting motion
1:38 - As you pull apart, as long as you don't grip so tightly they can't freely spin, they are "screwing" back together at the same rate that you're pulling the two separate pieces apart. The same number of "coils" remain interwoven no matter how long you pull apart because of this.
U have to be like 1 to 2 inches away from the shirt with it right in your face to see it say close because it looks like far from any distance because the "close" printed on it is so faded and light that you can see far very easily unless the shirt is almost on your face.
Even when I was a toddler I could always tell barber poles are spinning, i saw "far" first, and at all distances it looks to me like a picture of Einstein and one of Marilyn Monroe overlaid.
I like the Close Far shirt. I would say now I know whether to use my scope or canted iron sights, but as soon as I used the scope I would see "close" and then have to switch to canted iron sights but then I would see "far".....
I see both images at the same time, close/far and einstein/monroe. And immediately saw that you're just rotating the spirals, not pulling them apart. Visual illusions like this have always failed to trick me. As well as horizontal/diagonal bars, high contrast bars, shadow/highlight checkerboard squares but being the same color, spacial tricks with circles surrounded by big/small circles, magic eye illusions, inverted 3d masks, and so on. Only one has been tricky to discern: the clockwise/counterclockwise dancing silhouette. I can either see the simple black/white blob that morphs/flips about, or I can try and extrapolate a 3d spinning figure. Since there is no shadow, both interpretations are correct.
I'm looking forward to the day when I have a stable enough income to be able to get the Curiosity Box and afford the extra 100$ shipping. (No shade at the shipping cost, I fully understand the reason and need for the cost of shipping.)
@@samotoole7712 That's the cost of shipping to my country. I should've been clearer on that part. You can add the box to your cart and see how much shipping would be to your location.
@@Skellitone yeah I just checked $100 shipping 😬. Usually stuff shipped from US to Ireland is expensive but that's a new high. Again supporting alzheimer's research is important, well like you once I have a disposable income it's on the list!
I love the Mephisto spiral, and show it in an old video of mine here: czcams.com/video/RooYCfGc0m0/video.html It was invented by Thomas Klipfel in 1900, patented as US 646,403. He worked for the Union Wire Mattress Company, so he had access to lots of bed springs. I wonder how large the first version was.
I think different wavelength of colors will make it difficult to process, but not impossible. If you search on Google images, you have to scroll a lil bit down and find some examples.
OMG the thing is just one and acts like there are two but one long coil and one short coil the the one moving is you hand and the middle coil that's attached to the long coil
Jake shows off 2 Illusions, Michael licks a ball...
And kevin gets a wrinkly brain
But did he actually "Lick" the ball? To find out, we'll have to go to Nebraska....
It's good to be boss

I'd like an illusion shirt like that but instead of "far" and "close" it says "come here" and "go away"

Mephisto confirmed. He was in the coil the whole time!
So this is why the Mephisto Grand Illusions video (or Grand Illusions) in general is back in my recommended
Yea
You gonna try reporting them for hacking physics?
Jake's videos even when they're a bit more on the serious note, always leave me with a warm fussy feeling. They're really uplifting and hopeful

Even when you know what's happening, our mind still wants to accept the illusionary reality

Oh my goodness, these drums in the back kept distracting me the whole time, such a gorgeous thing! I would love to see you playing those, Jake!
Jake is so precious and must be protected at all costs.
So damn cringey
Thanks!
The shirt could also say “fart” and “closet”

3:08 It says FAR even when you stand up close to the camera. I can barely see the "CLOSE"
Ok dope. I thought it was only me.
i can see both when he is that close up
Easy.
Wires are fixed.
Pulling on the wire allow the spiral to rotate in the fingers offering the illusion that is infinitely pulling apart.
It’s the sliding of the fingers on the wire from center outward toward the ends that causes the twisting motion
Just stumbled on this after seeing the wire on another channel and I wanted to know how it worked. Great video.

You're pretty darn awesome yourself Jake
I got mine last week and my 9yo daughter was really excited with it. She's reading one of the books.
i figured the mephisto spiral and ive never been happier
nothing makes me smile like his intro and outro
So good to see him well, last video i saw was him beating cancer. Wow
hope you are well Jake.
It's funny, if you're near sighted and take your glasses off, the shirt always says "FAR."
you never fail to make me smile, thank you! p.s. you look just as lovely, jake ♡

3:13 THATS THE COOLEST SHIRT EVER!!
I'm looking for somewhere to buy one myself, but it proved to be harder than I thought ;-;
I see that drum kit Jake, petition for you to play in a video
Wow. I keep finding these videos uploaded on my bday. 😄

My friend actually managed to get them apart by mistake and now its broken

I felt like shit today, but damn, the opening made me smile. Thanks, Jake. It’s a tiny thing, but it means a lot. :)
A good product will market itself, and I believe you boys have made a fine product indeed
Oh man my 8 year old and very curious younger brother loves every illusion you show.
Did you make the Blues Clues sound at 3:20?
The prefect sound for a close and far scene!
Steve Burns would be proud.
'prefect"
The illusions are great. What really captivated me though was your hat! Is it really a USCSS Nostromo Towing hat!?
I could still see both images on your shirt but still cool
I love you jake.
Hey Jake, Vsauce here. Thanks for uploading another video.
If u take half the amount of steps back, u get Marilyn with a mustache
My problem with this is if you KEEP pulling, they WILL eventually come apart.
When Jake makes you question your sexuality in the first 10 seconds
if two people pulled in opposite ways would it eventually run out of wire?
I love optical illusions
That works until you put two wires together and soder them they will break apart doesnt matter how much welding you do they break apart.
Is that an Emmy in the background?!
Pulling the wire and taking your hand at the end if the wire is two different things!
So what happens if you grab each end and pull with all your might?
finally, we found the Mephisto cameo
So to get the thing to work you have to pretend to hold on to it
I see both images at the same time, close/far and einstein/monroe. And immediately saw that you're just rotating the spirals, not pulling them apart. So this is how virgins brag
Id like to specifically buy the close/far t-shirt. Anyone know where to buy one?
Wow what was very cool!!!
What does it mean if you see Monroe when close and Eisenstein when far away?
A psychic spiral suitable for the lord of death
Jake: Curiosity box is the only mercy we make
Far-Close shirt: Am I a joke to you?
"What? They're not coming apart!" What a tool 🤣

Where can I get a t-shirt like that one?
If you change the O in his last name to A, he suddenly becomes the greatest thing Jakes fear
Can you make a hybrid image with different colors? I've only seen them in black and white.
I think different wavelength of colors will make it difficult to process, but not impossible. If you search on Google images, you have to scroll a lil bit down and find some examples.
the high passed image would still be mostly black and white i believe
When are we goin down (down down) to Mephisto's cafe though?
Is there a way to buy one box without signing up for a sub?
No it’s the hook to hold it together
Do you purposefully put your hat on tilted, or is it the result of bunched-up hair?
where can I get the close/far shirt ???
The Einstein/Monroe image doesn't work digitally. You'd still have to manipulate it on-screen with the camera.
Are you intentionally sliding your hands apart or are they naturally doing that?
thanks
The coil illusion is ruined by the bent ends of the wire that you can see rotating
