There was a time that I lost my glasses and I just didn't buy new ones for at least three months. During that time I had no clue where people were looking because their faces were just blobs. I would get in trouble for making eye contact when I didn't know I was even looking at someone.
The first illusion reminded me of how that felt.

A cool little trick for 5:56 (that at least worked for me) is covering one half of the dots, whether it'd be from the side or top, it made it extremely easy to choose which direction I wanted them to go

Must be something wrong with my eyes, the dancing girl the whole time for me she was spinning clockwise, the blue dot stayed gone even when moved I have had totally opposite of what he was saying the dice with the dots were rotating when going fast with me but when slowed down it was just doing the seesaw movement. My brain must be gone! But of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind the most! Lol

Hypothesis: the dot doesn't disappear because despite your best efforts you have been 'tuned' by genetics and environment to be alert and observant to the point that your brain and eyes are constantly seeking new information.

The trick to seeing this in any way you want is to change the way you move your eyes. If you move the focus point of your eyes up and down while looking at one side, they will move up and down. If you move the focus of your eyes left and right while looking at the top or bottom, the dots will move left and right. Similarly your can make them appear to move in circles moving your eyes in circles, clockwise or counter-clockwise.
Initially I was finding it slightly difficult to change my perception, but after a few minutes could do it in an instant.

5:50 -> after watching the dots for like 1 minute, I now always see them moving up and down when looking above or below the square, but sideways if I look to its sides or into the middle. (Even though at start I had real trouble seeing this at all!) Fascinating!
When I look at the edge of the square, the whole thing disappears, the blue dot AND the green ball, I end up just seeing white..

6:22 the easiest way of changing the direction of the dots is by looking at one of the sides or corners. Looking at the top or bottom makes them seem like they're moving up and down, while looking at the left or right sides causes the balls to seem like they move left to right. Looking at the angles makes them seem like they're moving diagonally
Edit: with the dancing woman, cover everything above her left and watch those. It's easier to force your perspective to change if the top isn't distracting you with a more fluid constant motion
5:15 did any of you have a fire alarm in your room that had a light? I was able to stare at that tiny little light and focus on it without moving my eyes, and all of the light would just slowly fade out of the room, until only the point of light remained. It's pretty hard to do, but also cool.

I made one of those hinged ones out of dice and tape. It starts open but can be turned either way to form a closed square. The 3's and 1's all make a perfect box or star when turned too it's pretty cool.
5:55 I found that a reliable way (at the regular speed) for me to change the perception of the dots between vertical, horizontal, CW and CCW was to quickly move my eyes in the respective way then look at the dots. Almost every time I see the pattern my eyes were imitating. Probably a result of "priming" my brain to see motion in whichever direction I was trying to see at the time?

the dot one can be controlled by the way you look if you look from left to right they will appear to move that way if you look up and down the same happens and the same with the clockwise motion
Yea I have spent way too much time pondering this phenomenon and if you get it just right it feels like you are flicking the dots around with minute eye movements. I find it oddly satisfying and immensely fascinating.

for the circles moving one it depends where i look, if im looking just underneath or above they go up and down, if im looking immediately to either side they move sidewards, and if i look to the edges of my screen they move anti clockwise or clockwise, depending on which side i look at
WOW at 6:40 I can picture whatever pattern I want to see even in the fast mode I can change patterns with every blink even if it's going fast and that makes me feel good about myself since he said he couldn't do it when it was fast :)

Tip for spinning dancer illusion: Focus on her feet for counter-clockwise and her face for clockwise.
Tip for oscillating dot illusion: Practice by covering the half of the screen you want the dots to be moving, i.e., the bottom half to see it moving side to side or the right half to see it moving up and down. While you're doing that move your head in the direction of the motion you want.
It usually takes me around 15-20 seconds and mental effort of staring at the spinning dancer, but I can get it to flip directions.

For the moving dots closer to the end, i can switch between all the different patterns like side to side and up and down
The best way i dicovered to change the motion of those two white dots is just cover one row with your hand and then just look at the other one (if you want dots to go from up and down to side to side, then cover top or the bottom part of the square and if you want to go back then just cover left or right side).

Same, but astigmatism can probably change the results, which I have in one eye.
You can make the figure at 3:58 change directions quickly if you pause the video for about a second when her leg is at 3 o clock or 9 o clock. If you're seeing her rotating clockwise pause it at 9 to see the switch and if you're seeing counter-clockwise pause at 3.
Fun, semi-related-to-the-first-illusion fact - frequency separation (separating the high frequency details from the low frequency bloby colors) is one of the ways photo retouchers work in photoshop, evening out color in the low frequency and removing blemishes on the high frequency. Who woulda thought the same thing could be used to do an illusion online now, guys.

I use 'The Great Suspender' extension on Chrome that closes tabs after a specific time and recovers the memory for use or standby, as I used to have 8gb, but 15.5gb RAM was open once with tabs hahaha.

With the oscillating dots illusion, I found if you wiggle your finger up and down or side to side in front of the screen it becomes a lot easier to switch between them .

My perception on the flippy 2 dots illusion changed depending on where on the screen i was looking.
If you draw a cross on the square, looking at the bottom, left, or very middle changes my perspective of where the dots are going.

For the dots ilusion, try tilting your head slightly to one side,( for me) they will probobly look like they're moveing in circles clockwise, and when i tilted my head to the right, they apeared to go counter colockwise, try it
Try this... While watching the shifting dot illusion that starts around 5:50 rotate your head, or the screen, 45° in either direction. Notice how this changes the illusion. Try to identify the point during the rotation of the screen when the behavior changes. Now try to influence that change as you are rotating the screen. You're that much closer to becoming an optical illusion Ninja. Cool stuff - thanks Michael!
