It means you are imprudent on what you’re doing. If you’re pretty nervous that you can’t slow down like a normal person, you shouldn’t be driving buddy. Always keep your eyes on the road. The illusion of control can also be seen in elevator "close door'" buttons. All elevators have them and none of them work. They aren't even hooked up to electricity; they are buttons only because we can push them. People became anxious and frustrated without them. The "open door" buttons actually work.
