A Mitch rehabilitation program is required in any case:
1) Get Mitch to focus on playing his heart out for the Leafs & not about being treated as a God in Toronto
2) Convince Mitch to stay with his man while back checking all the way back to the Leafs net
3) Mentor Mitch (maybe by lacrosse & boxing training) how he can adapt to playoff officiating
4) Restructure the Leaf Core 4 for everyone’s sake
5) Lobby to have Shanny (now a redundant) graciously moved out 😀

@@robb412 You might want to read some Leaf Fans comments on Mitch’s mature levels. Setting that aside - it is true Mitch spoke about being treated like a God in Toronto - but he never spoke about signing a new contract to play his heart & soul for Leaf Fans. That is sad.

That's a nice thought all those things but Marner doesn't have it in him to do all of them, even if he wanted to. What we see is what we get.

He is an $11 Million playoff disappoint with $8.5 Million (say Blake Wheeler 90 point season) skills. But Wheeler fights & has been on a trip to the Conference Finals. Marner will - but like Kessel & Kadri - maybe but not with the Leafs. The Leafs need to progress up the ladder of playoff success to stop pretending they can win now. 😀
Marner to Vancouver, Petterson to Toronto, same draft position, age, points, two way play, money, Marne can feed Miller and Boeser on pp, Petterson can center Willie and has a shot on the pp.

The more and more I see this potential Marner for Saros trade the more and more I fall in love with the idea of it. That trade would be a win for both teams. Marner would get to play with Schenn and OReilly. Saros is a stud.

I'd tell Marner give me a list of 10 teams. If you dont agree to be traded you wont get the ice time you usually get and you could sit. Not ideal going into a contract year for Marner. Hes in this for the money like Marner and his dad put the screws to Dubas last contract

This team is deeply flawed,and that is not going to change any time soon.There is much work to be done by management,and would Berube be willing to wait it out till those moves are made is the big question.If he says yes,it will have to be on his terms,he holds the hammer.There are plenty of other teams who would be willing to meet his demands.
That's exactly what I said. Kyle Dubas left this team in shambles and are at least 3 seasons from being legit contenders. If ever.

In regard to Tavares - Has there ever been a player who acknowledged his lack of expected production and renegotiated his contract to reflect that just so he could stay put and maybe be on winning team?

The Union would never let that happen.
At one point Marner when he signed his first big contract he was more Valuable then Willy at his 6.9 mill contract. Willy and Mathiews did the years in a way it ends before Marner was up, Marner got greedy and took it all and the years. Now hes the odd man out with Willys and Mathiews new contract locked in and there is nothing left for Marner.

Domi proved that 34 could survive without 16, in a strange turn of events late season! (with Marner out with high ankle sprain) it makes me think they can sign Domi as the next “discounted” Marner, and recoup a solid PP/D-man and/or goalie etc. while freeing up $11+ mil in future cap space to sign more grit/snot/muck in the bottom six….

Marner had a 0.80 Giveaways/60 in the playoffs. 218 players in the playoffs this year are worst. Four Leafs had a better rate, the rest were worst.

@@pattaccone5347 That not how it works. Yes you are right about the 910K because the Leafs pay everything in bonus or lump sum payments. But the cap hit not the actual payment is what is important. Its the total of the entire contract divided by the years, that gives you the cap hit per year, hence Tavares at 11 mil. So yes he's cheap in terms of the monthly payout another team has be make but they also have to fit that last year of the contract under their cap.
Cap Hit: a player's cap hit is determined as the average annual value of their current contract. Cap hit is calculated by dividing the total salary plus signing bonuses of a contract by the contract's length. Homework.
He still takes the full 11 million hit on the cap. Maybe you should learn how the Cap actually works.

Pagnotta is wrong. After July 1st Tavares is owed 910K for the '24-'25 season. The cap hit is still 11mil but the team that gets him only has to pay 910K in 'salary. All teams can afford that that money, as long as they have cap room to take on the cap hit, they can afford Tavares.
Shanny's got 1 year left, JT and MM aren't going to wave their NMCs. So instead of The Last Dance, lets call this year, The Last Stance.

If Nashville are the trade target the deal starts with Askarov plus two unprotected 1st round picks MINIMUM .
I myself have put this trade forward, previously. Good value Wright ELC 2 more years. First round draft pick ( 8th OA ) plus a prospect. Seattle is prime for Marner. Washington State has no tax - signs 8 yr extension. Face of franchise
