    If anyone screwed the Leafs, it was Shanahan. To no one's surprise, he still has his job.
    The one consistent factor with this team through the disastrous Matthews era, is Shanahan.

  • @JeffTheLeafsFan
    @JeffTheLeafsFan Před 21 dnem +20

    It all started when Brendan Shanahan did not re-sign a 3 time Stanley Cup GM and replaced him with an OHL GM. The Leafs had a great young team in 2017 with tons of young prospects. But they needed some help on defence and I was hoping they would sign a big name defenceman. Instead they signed John Tavares, I was so disappointed, I just new it was the wrong thing to do. And I feel Lou Lamoriello would have never signed him if he remained with the Leafs. When they signed Matthews to a new contract they had to give him more than Tavares because Matthews is the best player on the team. Marner did then wanted money close to Matthews, but it was the hiring of Dubas and signing of Tavares that destroyed the Leafs salary cap structure.

      Guys like Brian Burke and Lou Lamoriello are simply behind the times unlike someone like Jim Rutherford who has seen consistent success for most of the last 20 years. Mentioning how many Cups they've won is a superficial and ineffective means of measuring a GM's potential in the current market. It's pretty clear that Shanahan is the root of the problem and not anyone else.

The Toronto fan base deserve superstar players that actually want to win a Stanley cup, are willing to sacrifice their body/health to accomplish this..unlike the current overpaid "regular season dynamos" that wimp out come playoffs, claiming headaches, or a runny nose..give me a break..the reason Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr, Howe, LaFleur, Bossy, Crosby are revered as the greatest players of all time is because of PLAYOFF success, not regular season, sadly the current lot of overpaid Leafs will inevitably be forgotten like all the other guys that never one a cup if they don't produce, and succeed in the playoffs.. 'Hunter gets players', moving down in the draft, collecting late picks, none of which are in the NHL now, to leave Boeser and Koneckni for Vcr & Philly, take another small winger (mnr) just because he's from ONT, London, vs. new coach (Babcock) wanted a D man, could have traded down for #1 Dman Werenski & 2-way center Barzel, &/or huge forward Rantanen. Tavares signing was bad timing because his window was closing while the core four was just starting. I remember when my team leaders had cojones,a backbone.
    As for Kyle he is a guppy amongst sharks in the gm ranks.

    As a devils fan i am kinda scared he may want to follow Keefe there. Which i hope doesn't happen. He is a good player but an absolute no show in the playoffs, and not the type of player the devils need at all.

      Devils already have that type of player. A Bertuzzi type is far more likely

      @@rickyaz8640 I would just try Halonen on Jack's wing. He seems like the type of player who has the grit needed on that line.

      @ScottStenlund He seems like a guy that is willing to screw the leafs over. I don't believe he is gonna take a discount cause he genuinely seems to think his comparable is Matthews and not Nylander.

    Marner in the playoffs is too small and gets knocked off the puck too easy when teams actually care in the playoffs don’t like his attitude either

    Marner didn't 'screw over' the Leafs. Dubas and Shanahan did. They overpaid Tavares and Mattthews by at least 2 mill each...and gave them every 'bonus' in the book. And neither of them make those bonuses if not for Marner. So, then YES, there was nothing out of line for Marner to demand what he demanded. He was just following the precidents which had already been set. It's *Matthews* you should be talking about "screwing over the Leafs". And even moreso now, as he now becomes the highest paid player in the league (but MILES from being the best player. There's at least 20 people ahead of him. INCLUDING MARNER!!

      The number 1 goal scorer in the league is overpaid 😂😂😂
      He's beating Ovechkin and if hé has a long successful career( Matthews) could become the greatest goal scorer of all time

      @@t2av159He totally *is* overpaid. He's been perfectly set up his entire career with the Leafs to be the 'sniper'. And okay, ya wanna call him the the best goal scorer into the league...can't deny that 70 goals this year was pretty amazing. But Sam Reinhart has 65, and Zach Hyman has 67. And they're both still playing and adding to their numbers!!! Which *matters* , because ya gotta score when it counts to be able to keep playing! Which Matthews has *NEVER* done yet at any time in his eight-year career!!! And with Hyman, ya gotta ask why isn't he still a Leaf?? And obvious answer is, because they overpaid Matthews (and Marner and Tavares), which meant they couldn't afford to keep an *EQUALLY* effective goal-scorer at half the price.
