If you ever wondered why you have seen people purposely miss buttons while falling, well here is your answer!
Thanks for the video, i was really curious as to why people did this.
Thanks my guy I've been wondering why pros been doing this
I can't tell you how many times I've dragon rushed by accident, thanks for this! Always useful.
damn this is way more useful than you'd think
On a channel note, some other stuff in the mix is perhaps a vol 2.0 of Android 16 and Broly combos with some other sassy and more optimized stuff, working on exposing some true number values on certain moves, and a lot of people want beerus stuff over gotenks apparently so maybe ill coin flip and hopefully this weekend I can put some time into playing around with them (for real this time).
rooflemonger MORE NAPPA !!
Yess. Beerus stuff
No, do Gotenks plz
I asked a few pros this same question when I was at FR, and you'd be surprised at how many either didn't know why others did it or weren't using it to whiff buffer. When I asked Marn specifically, he said he uses it as a visual cue of sorts-he'd rather see his heavy animation end to indicate that he's landed rather than trying to spot his feet hitting the ground. Others said they also use it as a sort of rhythm to help set up their oki. Not exactly sure how it works, but you'll see that most pros do it regardless of whether or not they're going to end in a Super. Could be a consistency thing mainly, but there's definitely some "extra" they get out of it to help their timing.
I used it bc i thought i got down faster lol
These videos are an absolute blessing.
Man, you're the main reason why I'm still playing and learning, Thank you so much for all the guides and content you bring to us
I may have already knew this, but I have to applaud you for trying to help new people. Not many people like explaining the most simple things to new people but it’s necessary so good on you man.
You're my hero. I've been asking this on videos of people's matches for almost a week haha
Awesome, as you said always seen them doing it lately and while this was my guess it's nice with clarification. Great video!
Great tip, man! I use Goku a lot and even though I've practiced the hell out of that timing I still get random aerial specials every now and again. Keep 'em coming.
This helps alot thank you!!
I Like it when The Videos are short
I figured this out last week, I was trying to figure out why super dash kept coming out even though I was grounded.
Even then, I still enjoyed the video, kudos to you for helping the community learn.
Thanks for the tips roofle! Ive been messing up my lvl 3 final flash in the corner!! Now with this maybe i can be good.
Being good is whats in your heart friend!
hey roofle congrats on killin it in DBFZ! awesome to see brosef.
This really helps characters like trunks I’m glad I saw pros do this
Thanks for another quality video Roofle.
Nice, i notice alot ppl doing that a few days ago, but i though it was just for timming. But ends up it also prevents false inputs. Thats gr8
Very useful tip! Thanks!
My god man you just changed my life. I had no idea about this and I play Trunks and T. Gohan, two characters that I think will benefit immensely from this.
This is super useful. Thanks
This really helps. I always whiff Trunk's lvl 1 super after I do an air combo. This really helps out, thank you.
Another tip: make sure you don't hold down when you input H, because your air 2H will come out and you won't reach the ground fast enough. I’ve lost a bunch of games because of that. Especially with level 3 supers that are air OK (Goku Black for example) because they can still come out (and miss) if your inputs were slow.
Deeyennay bruh this is an old comment but you just made my day so much easier thank you
How have I just seen this. Thanks rooflemonger I luv u.
This is why i Love your Channel 👍 i can relax After work watching this, get some new tech and play dragonball, im absolutly a noob in fighting games but now with your help i can beat good Players 💪😁✌️️(maybe because I'm a 16 main)
Thanks man I keep messing this up my self and this helps alot
Very helpful information. Thanks.
Great video keep up the good work
Yo this video helped a lot as a goku player myself I always struggled with the level 3
Thanks man! That helps alot with my Gohan :D
I thought this was to reduce landing lag. This is really useful!
Gadlight in this game, no. However, some games like smash have characters who have tiny endlag on their aerials, so much so that the normal landing animation is more frames thsn the move.
Wow I wish I would have known this earlier! This whole time I have been trying to do it the second I hit the ground but many times it's a bit too late and they recover. I had that problem soooo many times when using Ginyu! I may pick him back up again now that I know this!
Hey thank you so much for these videos helps out a lot
Veryyy helpful roof 💯💯🔥🤘
Happy to be of help friend!
Im glad i learned this tech from smash, but good tutorial!
Thanks man! You answered a question I had
That’s what’s whiff buffering for, gotcha. I don’t ever recall myself mis-timing a level 3 off a hard or sliding knockdown.
YES! I always want a candy beam on Kid Buu for confirmed pressure and get the Kamehameha instead. Thanks man!
Loved this video cause I had no idea why they did this
Thisnis useful, thanks! I actually lost a match because my character did something else than a level 3 tgat I wanted.
This is useful even with Air OK supers like Vegeta's, because doing those even a little too high in the air can just whiff an opponent in knockdown state due to their low hurtbox.
Cool, now I can actually not whiff yamcha's level 1 due to the window being so small to combo with it when you land from and arial combo. Thanks a lot.
I literally was asking about this the other day.
Seeing sonic fox doing this leave me wondering thank you for explaining
I thank you. i didn't understand what the hell this was when it was taught to me by the guy i'm playing alongside, never knew what it was till today.. still dont really understand this technique but im trying
Thank you
Thumbs up Roof
Oh, I thought they were doing it to hit the ground faster. Whoops
Ah, I thought it was more to immediately cancel into a super when you hit the ground so you don’t waste 1-3 bars because you delayed the super input a bit too long and the opponent was able to recover from the sliding knockdown, but doing the input too early also makes sense good stuff 👍
well it does both - makes sure ur timing is not too early or late
Roof can you talk a little bit about hit stun decay and about how it can affect the length of a combo? I've been having trouble understanding its mechanic and how it can allow an opponent to tech out of even an auto combo.
I talk about that in the "anatomy of a combo" video.
Q: how do you super change instantly, without using your active character super?
I'm sure this is my fault, but alot of times whenever I try to do a level 3 with trunks I'll get the dragon rush instead. I don't know if I'm pressing L2 too early or I'm not moving my thumbstick far enough for QCB
I just use a Tekken trick and input the directional inputs on the way down, then press the button the frame I land : P
The more important reason is that they activatie their lvl1 or 3 super as soon as they hit the ground. Making sure it conects, in some combo's the timing is very tight. Great video though.
That's what I said though
Incredibly helpful to know. I wondered why people did it and I just assumed it was some sort of option select or it made the character land every so slightly faster. Now, hopefully I won't miss my Trunks' super anymore with this trick =D.
As for a question that I hope you can explain, why do people do LLM air combos rather than say LML which is easier to do both in terms of not dropping combos (due to auto-combo tracking) and execution? I see a ton of people do this, more so for Goku Black than anyone else but it is fairly common.
Well you can't do LLM, you can do LL cause LL = LM, but since its partially an autocombo it gives you more height than LML will.
I thought you can do 4LLM, no?
can you do a video on option selects? Id like to know more and enjoy your content
There's a million little option selects, anything more specific?
I know theres that new 16 one that Lord Knight was doing but I figure since I and others are new to FGs, having a video explain what OSs are and how to find them may be beneficial
*slowly reaches over to grab his pen and note pad*
Roof if you see this man. Can you do a video of how to deal with corner spammers? Thanks man, appreciate all your hard work.
corner spammers in what regard? You mean just people attacking over and over? if so the videos about defending yourself and what to do when you are knocked down are what you are looking for.
He has a video titled "How to handle yourself on defense" and that should cover most of what you need. =]
I can do some combos that involves the opponent hitting the wall and then I go into a dragon rush after that they go into a knock down state but everytime I use a super my opponent can block or it doesn't hit...would this be something to use to confirm the super?
Never missed a landing lvl 3, learned it was an isssue for high level players a week ago...
Maka Rena It's not an issue don't get your head too big it's just a precaution as it would be really annoying to miss time it at a crucial point so they play it safe
Max Rusty Exactly
Can you do a tips and tricks video for blue vegeta
I will get around to as many characters as I can in time! It takes some time for me to feel comfortable enough with a character before I can make a video for them.
I can see everything!!!
Yes but.. how does one buffer a combo??? I remember watching certain youtubers playing this and they said ooh hes just buffering combos.. what is that and is there a video abt it. I would love to learn about it lol
Oh I thought that was used to land faster.
this reminds me of umvc3 dr. doom whiff M to land faster
Whoa. Does this apply to other anime fighters like BlazBlue or GG?
Every game has their own particular rules when it comes to normals and buffering and the like.
Roof, I've been wondering why the top players use two or three light attacks in their air combos rather than light medium light. Why do they do this? (Watch HGG vs Sonic Fox.)
Well I don't know what specifically you are talking about but if you are doing medium light light instead of light medium light, it nets you a bit of extra damage although not much, since the medium is earlier on in the combo scaling.
rooflemonger ah gotcha! Had no idea you could chain two lights after a medium in the air before the air 2H! I'll go train with it, thanks!
Does this also work with attacks that are air ok but I want to perform on the ground? for example Bardock's saiyan spirit?
Churchill I’d assume so, as the animation for the jumping heavy will cancel all other moves while in animation
Yes it will, it is a great technique for everything. You can buffer any move you want to perform on the ground in the Air heavy animation. Even light attacks. I also use it when I instant airdash over my opponent to cross up from the other side with a low light attack or adult gohan regular light, most will try to block high and get hit into a 4k combo 👌🏼.
Élco Utermöhlen Cool. Thanks for the reply. I think I should Test this a bit once I get home. Seems like a great tool to get your Timing right.
yes sir
Does somebody knows the name of the song at the end?
true love we makin' - capcom vs snk2
Are quartercircles really that hard for people?
Its not about quarter circles at all, its about your timing when you hit the ground.
Why do the pros whiff buttons even when they don’t super?
db Squash Sometimes its habit. Other times they are whiffing buttons on purpose to time their oki options. You can see an example of it in one of Roofle's using Nappa where he whiffs a 5H so that when he inputs 2H the hitbox will already be active on your wake up.
Hey roofle, after my down smash in a combo, I try to do a down heavy as a regular hit, but I can't seem to cancel into another attack. Tips?
heavies can't chain into themselves except for stand H, crouch H on the ground, or H, d+h in the air.
rooflemonger thanks man I appreciate the help, but I'm still a bit confused, since I see people use d+h in the middle of their combo like a regular hit, and it's sometime after the smash
Ins3rt You mean down heavy into L in the air? All you have to do is jump cancel after the down heavy in the air.
BeastlyJ yeah I figured it out, I was just being stupid
Ins3rt It’s all good. What console do you play on?
And why Vegeta SSJ players do 2H in the air before touch the ground in a knockdown ?
RubiK Dragon to time their falling JH to match u ur wakeup timing and sometimes to throw off your 2h timing
Safe jump timing
OOOOoooooooh
🙊🙉🙈
Americans, people of usa, mostly the pros dont calculate very well to do the super xD
Thank you 🙏🏽
So thats an l-cancel? 🤔
Twillz in a way yeah sort of.
Or you can use R2 like a normal person
Cool, you just got EX kicks for Goku using R2 instead of dragon rush if you were 1 frame off. That's the whole reason goku is the showcase here.
Thank you
