  • Skeptics were labeling the Timberwolves as buffoons for trading 4 1st rounders for Rudy Gobert Clapping back at the doubters, now Minnesota’s changing the game. A 3x DPOY’s 2nd season with this Minneapolis based organization following a heavily scrutinized trade from the Utah Jazz- is going swimmingly. However it’s the way in which the Timberwolves have been winning games as a whole- which is most intriguing here.

    What's the most refreshing part about the 23-24 Timberwolves? Is it their defense like I said or something else? Best answer gets next videos commenter shoutout and competes for a free NBA jersey or shoe of their choosing with winners being set by June 21st

      It is worth noticing that the 3rd player with the best defensive rating in the whole NBA is noone else... than Kat! It means a lot about Kat's new implication in defense but also about Rudy's defensive aura that radiates to other players. I love it!

      @@etiennengz5980I agree it’s awesome he’s doing so well but I think a big part of that is that he doesn’t take the best big on defense. Rudy gets that assignment. Towns can basically freelance since most teams don’t have two capable bigs

      I’m agreeing man, I’ve been a fan of the Timberwolves my whole life and this team even feel better than when Garnett took us a ways in the playoffs. I don’t wanna get too excited though. I’ve learned being a Minnesotan and rooting for Minnesota teams could give ya a heart attack lol but I agree there defense and there overall ability to play as a team last year they weren’t playing as a team.

    The main reason Rudy struggled guarding on the perimeter in the past was that in Utah he was tethered to the post. In Utah when he jumped out on the perimeter it left the post unguarded. In Minnesota he’s not worried about always having to rush back into the post because now he has a defense behind him. At least that’s what my eyes are showing me. It’s hard to guard someone on the perimeter when you’re worried about the post.

    • @lotuslife3239
      @lotuslife3239 Před 3 měsíci +4

      Exactly. More than a lockdown type defender Rudy focuses more on positioning because at the end of the day he is a smart player just with a big mindset. With his size and athleticism he feels like he could look behind him at the perimeter and chase down someone for a block in the paint at any time, but he shouldn't have to if he's switched out on the perimeter. Now that he doesn't have to constantly look behind him for cuts or mismatches he can focus solely on the much smaller player trying to dance to get an open shot. This is great ball, while Ant rlly isn't MJ more like a D Wade, he can carry the offense and KAT being a 7ft shooter helps too. Conley great perimeter D and a whole team of physicality at every position its a nightmare to go against. Most small ball gonna end up injuring themselves come playoff time trying to take on that much size and athleticism mixed with vet IQ.

    • @OGMichaelC
      @OGMichaelC Před 3 měsíci +5

      Elite perimeter defenders (unlike his time in Utah) PLUS, if he's out of position or if he's playing near the 3 point line, he has another big man waiting in the paint.

    One thing I don't hear people mention is that when the TWolves traded for Gobert, they ALREADY HAD TWO #1 picks that were keepers. They wanted to get to the next level. IF they were a playoff bound team for the next few years, what help do late first-round draft picks really provide? The trade for Rudy, and then later, Conley, provided not just the talent, but the stability, maturity, and accountability those #1's need. I think we actually got one back on Danny Ainge in this one. 25 year Wolves fan. Good video.

    Rudy Gobert is 31 and people are only realizing now he is no joke, even still today there are some who still believe he's a bum because he got exposed when he was in a Jazz team with like 0 peremeter defense 0 effort from Donovan Mitchell, bojanovic or ingles. The only weakness of this team is their capability of making baskets. They defend like crazy but once in the playoffs and every team will tight defense, im hoping they will have other players to step up and not rely too much on Edwards and Kat

If she was here today she be so happy to see them playing so good now. The Timberwolves have led the Western Conference since the start of the season and are an exciting team to watch. Yet they have not had one game on ABC prime time television. Every week it's the same thing, Lakers, Knicks, Golden State, Clippers, 76ers, Celtics. I know Minnesota is a small market but so is Milwaukee and the Bucks get a few prime time games. I'm so sick of the NBA's bias against the Wolves. I know when they get to the playoffs that not only will they have to beat their opponent they'll have to beat the ref's as well because the NBA doesn't want them to go deep into the playoffs.

      This isn't to say that Gobert shouldn't be ranked near or at the top, but rather his defense and his team's defense raises the mediocre defense of KAT far above his actual production. And a guy like Sengun, for example, has no business in any defensive top 20 list, but his team as a unit is cohesive and well coached on the defensive side of the ball, so it elevates his rating.

    gobert has been the best defender in the league for at least the past 4 or 5 years, but when teams force him to guard the perimeter/corner in the playoffs he is lost. Rebounds also don’t matter as much in the playoffs. Giving up 5 firsts and 5 role players for a player that everyone knew Utah didn’t want to keep is still stupid. Minnesota would’ve been better off keeping those picks and building around AntMan. Naz Reid with KAT would’ve already been one of the best front courts in the league. Adding Rudy was unnecessary, and their assets could’ve been used more efficiently on acquiring another player/players (kuzma, dejounte murray, pj washington, dorian finney-smith, scary terry, porzingis, marcus smart, harden, etc.)
