They’re too complicated for drivers to actively be able to react based on conditions when in action. In my opinion the rule should be that no matter what (unless the car on the inside has its rear axle level with the others cars front axle at the apex) the driver on the outside should always be given room on exit. This is A LOT simpler and a lot more black and white.
I don't understand why they need to make the overtaking rules so complicated. Why is it even allowed to drive another driver off the track in defense? Make it difficult to pass, by all means, but don't make it a choice of you either back off or crash. Even if it is only barely enough space, at least have it there for the other driver and let him have that choice to risk staying there or not. Kimi did this to great effect, i believe Mika as well
Ridiculous, too many rules. Let them race for crying out loud! Only punish drivers that are causing collisions. Allow use of all the possible track areas, none of the track limit nonsense please! All drivers will drive the same line anyways
To be clear, if an overtaker doesn’t do exactly this, but they make a safe and complete overtaking move anyway, they’re not gonna be punished. These rules ARE for punishing drivers who cause collisions (or forcing someone wide) so that they actually have a basis for whose fault it was.
That’s how every other Motorsports race. Albeit the regulation is a lot less complicated than F1. Only in F1 does shoving drivers off the track be allowed which is a disgrace and I’m glad they’re going back to the basics
WOW.!! Are you serious mate.? You really think that a freaking comment like this is going to even be considered.?? Sorry bud, but common sense left F1 sometime in the early 90's. Unfortunately for us.
"...at the apex and to the exit." Good luck defining apex (and exit) in certain corners of tracks like China, Miami, Cota, Suzuka (especially the Esses) etc... The only type of corner which has a well definable apex is the 90 degree corner (Baku has a lot of them.).
@@AstralPulse8 Where is the apex in the race when - 2 cars next to each other - are turning into the corner on a very different racing line compared to the previous laps. Different racing line means different speed and different apexes for both cars.
It really depends on the track. You can't rule the same verdict for forcing the other driver off into a gravel track, onto grass, or just a concrete run-off area. At the 2007 Japanese Grand Prix, Massa and Kubica pushed each other off almost every corner in the last lap. It was one of the most epic battles in F1 history. With such strict rules, the battle would've been over at the very first contact, because the driver who'd been pushed off would've backed off and started crying on the radio to get the other driver a penalty. The results would've been decided after the race, which is never optimal. They knew back then, that because the run-off area was concrete, literally no harm was done by pushing the other driver off the track. Had it been grass or gravel, the story would've been different.
As I’ve said previously, the outside is the new inside. Defending drivers should open the door to the insides and brake slightly late making it hard for the attacking driver to get alongside the mirror. Then get on the power earlier with the shallow line knowing the car on the inside isn’t allowed to squeeze you on the exit anyway.
Honestly, I really don't see why these should even be rules to begin with. This stuff should already be learnt by the drivers as a common courtesy. This stuff is a big thing in GT3 and DTM type racing. Track limits are already a thing and F1 already has penalties for forced collisions, so why all this extra stuff? I mean, I understand they want to make the sport as safe and as fair as possible, but then there is a point where TOO MUCH can end up killing the sport. Look at what is happening to the likes of NASCAR, one of the biggest racing venues in North America, too many rules and rule changes is killing the sport...
- LMFAO . If the drivers already have issues lining up on the grid at times , how da heck they gonna visualize the position of axles vs mirrors vs apex locale ?
So basically there will be no defensive driving, this allows the faster car just to drive around the slower car. In translation no more Alonso moments like Hungary 2021 or Alonso Vs Schumacher, or Hakinen Vs Schumacher . They are just killing the sport slowly every year.
Here's a suggestion to the FIA: Make some f*cking lanes in every track with stone medians/dividers so there is no chance of racing and thus no chance of overtaking and thus, no possibility of one car touching another.
F1 gets it SO WRONG ALWAYS. The racing . “If thats what we”ll call it” is complete Garbage. Truly. Its TRULY TRASH . Shows on Saturday folks. Sundays affair is nothing more than a high speed parade. Snooze fest
The problem is that drivers intentionally ruining someone race for personal reasonings. Best example is Alonso china 2024 while fans argued it's fair or not the onboard clearly showed he didn't even steer wheel until it was clear Carlos is off the track. In these incidents 10s is not enough especially considering he had retired the car. There should be race bans given for drivers like Alonso, Kmag who took Yuki out, and especially Sergio Perez during last year Suzuka and Singapore weekends
Autonomous driving and AI will fix the erratic driving that made F1 what it used to be... that is, until fairies and princesses arrived on the scene. And Puberty Media 🇺🇸
So, mirrors will be placed as far forward as technically possible at the next car updates? 😂
😂 good idea
Very good idea😂
Good idea😂
Put them on the front wing
I dunno, Lance Stroll will still find a way to avoid looking at them
No the designers are thinking of ways to have the mirrors mounted to the front wing
The mirrors positioning is dictated by the FIA in the rules and technical regulations

Nah Ocon wouldn't won the Hungary GP because Alonso wouldn't be able to hold Lewis with that silly rules
In 2026 driver ahead will kindly ask the guy behind to overtake him😂

Rules ensure safety. Do you want dead drivers?
I know how you felt about the halo

4 comments and 3 bots man I thought In 2024 we would have flying cars lol 😂😂😂
I didn't notice they were bots until I looked at their profile pics 😂
We've had flying cars since the 1960s

The new rules are rubbish. No one knows what they are just a lot of people in charge of F1
These rules gave me vertigo 😵💫
Only applies to Ocon. 10 second penalty for getting out of bed this morning
FIA saw how turn went down 1 in Vegas last year between charles and max and said to themselves maybe we should do more than we did 😂
They’ll be fitting brake lights & indicators next!!
Overtaking on the outside is already a lot harder and IMO can be a lot more exciting to watch. Why make it even harder?
So what are we going to draw lines at the apex of every corner?
What about multi apex corners?
Watch their full vid on it
In 2030 F1 cars will have digital mirrors mounted onto the front wing end plates…
Things were so much more fun back when they could race.

But we have seen these rules not being used during this season, or is it just down to who does the incident?
aka same as before...
What if the "forcing off the track" isn't deliberate🤦

Racing is Racing
Watch how they won't be consistent with these rules
yeah im defenetly switching to gt3
Max will struggle
What happened to the wheel being along side the other cars rear wheel. S*** new rules
move the points back, make it so you can't push someone wide
Max and Perez are screwed
no lewis is
@@DarkInsidernope max is especially in terms of him pushing others off the track
Thats frickin confusing
Magnussen was penalized in Miami for the Sargent incident even though he followed the rules.

F1 is shite these days

Why do the fia overcomplicate everything? Just use indycar rules ffs. Simple and understandable and no fucking grey area
Here's a suggestion to the FIA: Make some f*cking lanes in every track with stone medians/dividers so there is no chance of racing and thus no chance of overtaking and thus, no possibility of one car touching another.
Why do we have overtaking rules? Dangerous Driving rules would address the actual concerns, would it not?
All the time you have to leave the space
How are they even supposed to overtake when the cars are as big as someones mom
It will always result the same scenario,.
So motor racing is over/finished for ever ?!?!
When rules are made for max and Lewis
Just ridiculous.!
What is this madness?! This is far from pure racing and fun.
This is way too much to enforce and going to take even longer for the stewards to make decisions.
You pronounced regulatory how?
But don't race too hard because you'll get a penalty like Alonso. It's best to just stay behind the car in front of you now.
Yeah let’s take away the little action left for the sport that would be great 🎉
Still wont stop the he pushed me off rubbish. We're in 2024 and clearly the rules are no different
This is getting ridiculous. Let drivers be race car drivers again.
Over politicalisation of the sport. It's motor racing FFS, let them drive.
No overtaking max!
if these rules are new what did the old ones say?
They didn't say anything. These are to codify and clarify. Or so they think.

Rubbin ain't racing anymore.
Sir Cum Stances
Tedious nonsense.
Why just why
No wonder the racing sucks. I mean in comparison to all the other series.
What a joke. This is why F1 is flopping, take away the fake overtake flap and let the bastards race
This is bullsht
Unbelievable! Unbelievable! Cars too big anyway with no real way to overtake in corners without grinding to a halt
The problem is that drivers intentionally ruining someone race for personal reasonings.
