- The mutant nomad, Baraka, was first introduced in Mortal Kombat II. (Later retcons would place him at the first tournament.) Not just a mere grunt, but practically a central figure throughout the series. Even when Baraka's not in the game, his presence can be felt - as is the case with the latest installment, Mortal Kombat XL.
This video will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about your favorite Tarkatan - including his girlfriend, Mileena.

If you saw the making of MK2 you'd see his teeth were metal too on the mask and his teeth could be like Beaver teeth that rust and don't rot and his blades could be a carbon chrome composite. This is Outworld we're talking about here. It goes by quite different rules than Earth Realm. Since the Tarkatan are both Outworld and Earth Realm mutants they aren't bound by the rules of either realm.
Baraka using weapons is like Sonic using a car.

Very cutting edge stuff. You took quite a stab and came out with a sharp analysis. You took the history of Baraka and repeatedly stabbed it to a bloody pulp with the blades growing out of your arms... metaphorically of course.
They actually made a callback to Baraka's MK9 ending in MK11's Aftermath Story expansion, though Shang Tsung disguises himself as an unnamed Shokan instead.
This channel is the most wholesome thing to ever come out of Mortal Kombat
I don't think it matters whether Baraka lives or dies. I think Mortal Kombat:Shaolin Monks hints at this. When you fight a Tarkatan they are only named Tarkatan but, Baraka being the only one with a name struck me as odd. Maybe it's not a name but, an Alpha status or rank.

Huh with mk11 showing both bone blades and metallic, I always had the idea that it might have been a tarkatan practice to douse/coat their bone protrusions in metal to make them more deadly.
I liked the Baraka in MK rebirth. The faux realistic spin on the characters was very interesting in my opinion.

So Baraka can use his nose as his remembering sniff in Mortal Kombat Aftermath he did the same thing when he found out that Shang Tsung wasn't a shokan

Ironically MK10 Mileena actually had the potential to be a good leader of outworld, as she's half edinian and half tarkatan (which makes her quater outworlder) she is a physical representation of their worlds merging as one. And she had matured a lot by MK10 she could have continued to grow.
I think the MK team should've stuck with the Malibu Comics version of the outworld mutants all being different. Imo, introducing his tarkatan race and their vast quantity took away from the character's uniqueness. When he was first introduced in MK2 he was incredibly intimidating, mysterious and seemed truly dangerous. Now there are multiple tarkatans and Baraka himself has turned to cannon-fodder. They even (most probably) killed him off in MKX. Not a fan of the way Reptile and Baraka have turned into jobbers nowadays. Anyways, great video as usual.
They have more races ill be it 2 were revealed in the last game i just think with barakas popularity and back it fit perfectly to make tarkatans the foot soldiers of out world the problem is we never see the out world domination we never see grand master shang tsun or grandmaster goros win streaks where khans snorting blow and invading every realm ever

That is 100% true. They haven't gotten Baraka (or any Tarkatan) quite right in any of the movies quite yet.
@@tabmok99 it's ironic since they could just either fo the Nosferatu makeup or something like Ferangi makeup (for the teeth only) and slicker arm spikes instead of the bulky ones from Mortal Kombat Annihilation. I feel like the aesthetic from the first three games (especially 2) has never really been right in the 3D games or movies.

Baraka is 1 of my favorite newcomers in Mortal Kombat II (alongside Jax & Sub-Zero).
His shredder/slicer move (whatever you wanna call it) really came in handy against the secret bosses & Shao Kahn in Mortal Kombat II as well as Onaga in Mortal Kombat Deception.
I often said I wouldn't mind seeing Baraka go up against someone like Vega from Street Fighter.

The Hebrew interpretation is interesting. Your translation is on point, but when I heard Baraka I thought "barak" which is the Hebrew word for lightning, so i guess baraka could be the feminine word for lightning.

Defenders of the Realm: The horde was constantly fighting over leadership/pecking order. This was before the tourney happened, and they were organized by Shang Tsung/Shao Khan.
Pre-MK1: Goro was placed as leader of the horde (to better control/fight off Earthrealm's defenders).
MK1: Goro gets busy with the tourney (remember that he was champion for a ton of time). The horde is left looking for a leader...
Pre-MK2: Goro gets offed by Liu Kang, and fighting over the alpha male position starts. Baraka ends up in charge after Shang Tsung sees his abilities in action (also, probably because they needed a new leader for the horde).
MK2: Mileena is created by splicing Baraka's dna with Kitana's dna in the flesh pits. The fight is brought to Earth/the Shaolin monks by Baraka and his horde (probably wanting to kill Liu Kang OR at least kill his morale). Remember, Earthrealm hasn't seen the tarakans before. After the battle, Baraka joins the MK tourney because he wanted to "finish the job".
MK10: Mileena/Baraka are still in that relationship. But now they are officially rebels (as Kotal Khan is now leader of Outworld). Dvorah ends Baraka under her Khan's orders - possibly to stop the rebels from fucking up the plans. (Hinted in the original MK2's ending where he and the horde rebel against Shao Khan's rule...)
I still like the theory that Baraka is a title for the alpha male - not the name of any of the characters. Makes sense because a horde type of predators won't have names for themselves.
Why was Baraka's Blade Spin move removed from Mortal Kombat 2 but was brought back in Mortal Kombat 3 if it's overpowered?
Look at the roster of MKT (esp. characters like Noob Saibot and Rain). The developers threw in a lot of stuff that was cool, but "broke" the game (i.e., made it terribly unbalanced). This is why tournament players prefer Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and not MK Trilogy.

These videos are amazing. I love your style too. More people should see this. Can you make one on Reiko? His MK4 ending was a real confusion for a lot of people. People thought he was Shao Kahn for years, but the throne he sat on wasn't the throne to Outworld, it had the mark of the Brotherhood of Shadow on it.

In terms of Live Action, Annihilation did no favours for anybodies representation. Legacy seemed to base the Tarkatans on a (likely popular at the time) Orc-like design. To me all you need to make Baraka work is to shave the head/eye brows, put in contacts and emphasise the teeth. The head doesn't really need overt prosthetic beyond that.

True, I include it because the director eventually was hired by WB to make an official series (MK Legacy) so it's important to look at how it got started. I don't consider it canon to the games of course, but I won't ignore it either
