  • It's time for another exciting game of Grimdark Future Firefight, the sci-fi skirmish game from One Page Rules. In this battle report, colonial troopers attempt to defend Cold Water Oasis from an army of hostile xenomorphs. Who will win this epic battle in the wasteland? #battlereport #grimdarkfuture #minaturesgame

    I really enjoy these battle reports! I'm a pretty big fan of Grimdark Firefight, and it's fun to see these skirmishes play out with some beautiful classic minis.

    I’m in love with this channel. I love the relaxed or casual enjoyment of the hobby. Your tables are always so beautiful, your stories are always engaging. I’d really like some links to where you get your models and terrain, If I could emulate even a portion of the fun you guys get to have it’d be amazing. These OPR, Space Wierdos and Stargrave games have really gotten me jealous of you guys!

      Hi Nox. Thank you very much for the kind words. Most of the terrain in this video came from Battle Systems and PlastCraft Games, but a lot of other stuff was accumulated piecemeal, so I don’t always remember where we got it. I will say that swap meets and conventions are great sources for second-hand gaming materials. We’ve found some real bargains over the years.

    Great game; Love the Red Rocket station, but wouldn’t want to meet the deathclaw that threw the car on the roof

      Hi Gary. The buildings are a mix of Battle Systems and Plastcraft post-apocalyptic terrain. The Red Rocket building is from the Modiphius Fallout line.

    So what would you say is the difference in 'flavor' between Space Weirdos vs. Grimdark Firefight? Any preference?

    • @oldhammered
      @oldhammered  Před 2 lety +12

      I'd say Grimdark Firefight is a very streamlined and functional ruleset for getting old GW and Mantic minis back on the table, but the choices you have when activating a unit are fairly limited (advance & shoot, rush, charge, etc,). Also there are very few die-roll modifiers. Most of the time you're rolling against your quality or defense, and that's it. However, Firefight can accommodate more models, because some units are actually groups of three. Also, I really like the Army Forge list building app for warband creation. Very handy.
      Space Weirdos, on the other hand, allows for more choices during activation, because you're always deciding how to allocate a unit's actions (forgo movement, and you can shoot multiple times for example). Plus there are more dice modifiers that can increase or decrease your chances of success. And there are some interesting wrinkles that can completely change the flow of gameplay, like if you shoot at someone and roll poorly, they get to shoot back!
      So, both games are really good I think, though Space Weirdos has a bit more depth and is probably better for games with a lower model count. Grimdark Future Firefight is great when you want to teach someone the rules in 15 minutes and get right to gameplay.

    What size of battlemat is that?

    • @oldhammered
      @oldhammered  Před rokem

      That is a 3x3.

    • @elirobs26
      @elirobs26 Před rokem

      Do you prefer that size over the 4x4?

    • @oldhammered
      @oldhammered  Před rokem +1

      @@elirobs26 Our table is only 42"x42", so a 3x3 is the largest mat we can accommodate. A larger mat would be helpful for some games like Dragon Rampant. On the other hand, some small skirmish games are better on a 2x2. So it just depends.

    The auto cannon should have to remain stationary. Of course I have never played a game like this so what do I know.
