This is better than the original, though I'm not sure how well it would work without knowing the original as context. But the (atonality?) and out-of-time-ness (it's definitely a word) of it just works so well. (It's like when you sing a song with the melody a step or two ahead of the rest of it. Everyone does that, right?)
