Tuning is musically valuable.
Some tuning systems are really good at specific moods.
As a creator, I want to finely hone my craft.
There are many ways to get at a certain mood.
I use timbre, dynamics, space etc. of course I would use tuning as well!
If we take any one parameter for granted, we lose a lot of expression.
Imagine writing all your music mid-tempo! Or mid-loudness! That would be dull.
Tweak all the parameters, push all the buttons, try all the techniques, find ways to get the sound.
Microtonal means tuning is valued.
Even 12-equal is microtonal if you're using it to get a certain sound.
This is what I believe now. I was wrong before.

I agree. Tuning is everything, because music is 'just' frequencies. When you look for it you find a lot more microtonality in 12-e, but it shows up within the instruments themselves most often.

I've only recently been properly getting into microtonal production, it was a thing I sometimes messed around with, but I decided to just bite the bullet and make everything besides 12EDO sample stuff and the occasional experiemnt in 22EDO. Stuff is clicking so very quickly, what was daunting is now pretty much natural... As far as 22EDO goes. Gotta take my time, but I'm excited for when I get to use tunings as you describe in the description.
I wanna thank you for basically being the sole person to inspire me! Ohh yeah, and Adam Neely for introducing me to you. You ever played around with freq shifters btw? It can create interesting stretched harmonies with timbre stretched alongside it, kinda like Gamelan etc.
Yeah, just keep messing with it, that's what I did! Glad you're inspired to do music. Yeah freq shifters are cool, I don't have one at the moment, but want to mess around more.
@@Sevish The evolving process is the most fun part for me, so I'll definitely get there with time. I only recently realized my favorite synth Harmor supports microtonal by simply keyboard mapping the pitch (SCL file was weird but I fixed it), so it's been super fun.

@@alexeypolevoybass Ohh yeah, that was my first microtonal plugin and I still use it a ton! I've been loving the EP-Mk1 electric piano too, free just like Surge.
@@Sevish There's some weirdness with it, but maybe Full Bucket's free freq shifter works in bitwig?
I've found this weird thing with it when shifting down 5k with an even amount of instances of the plugin (let's say 6), it spits back out the original sound but the highs get squished and there's this weird degredation to the sound, very unique, try it on a saw for some very cool warbles.
How this happens? I have absolutely no idea. Cool for drums too! It adds some subtle variations to each hit too, so potentially wanna resample when doing this or embrace it.

I think sevish uses bitwig! it has a built in microtonal device that works nicely with all the bitwig synths
