For a reviewer who admits he wanted to hate the C8, it still impressed him. That in itself is a huge statement towards how good this thing is. Even the haters are disarmed. As for his dislike of the exterior design, all I can say after 4 months of driving mine - is that I have NEVER seen strangers flock to any other car for pictures - like with this C8. If I run errands, I can plan to be stopped by at least 4 friendly strangers who want to see it and talk about it. This thing helps restore my faith in humanity with all the great people we have since met. Two weeks ago we had 2 C8s in same parking lot as 5 late model Ferraris, 2 Lambo Huracans, a McLaren, and 2 Porsche 911s and a Cayman - and the C8s got ALL the love from passersby. If I had not witnessed it I wouldn't believe it. This thing is an incredible car and incredible value and not a surprise they are sold out for years out .

This is the first Corvette that I've ever wanted. I'm finally getting the "Every man's sports car" feels. They didn't have to give it insane super car styling, but they did. They didn't have to spend billions on the architecture, but they did. An interior that rivals their own Cadillacs? Sure why not. And the price doesn't balloon to comical levels with options like other brands. It'll get 30mpg as you're tooling down the highway and smoke 98% of the cars on the street from the light. I suddenly want to be a 36 year old retiree and drive this thing across the country.
    Can't golf worth shit though.

  • @Th3Birdman
    @Th3Birdman Před 3 lety +128

As a C8 Vert owner, my experience has been this: the car is extremely liveable, and comfortable for daily driving. I initially planned on continuing daily driving my Mustang GT, but after putting around 4k miles on my C8, my Mustang has been honestly collecting dust. It's so much more comfortable than that car, way more comfortable than my C5 was. It's hard to explain-- I can take corners at high speed and not feel like I'm going throw my tail and spin out.
Some things I take issue with said in this video however:
    1. Not a SINGLE passenger I've had has "bumped into the HVAC controls". I have no idea why you'd even imply this is possible. The controls are angled AWAY from passengers, meaning they'd have to deliberately try to press the buttons. Normal seating, they'd never even encounter such a problem.
    2. Another thing is viewing the engine: name a hard top mid-engine vehicle that comes in a spyder/convertible config where you can still see the engine. Lol, that makes no sense.
    3. And lastly, my car was $69,000 (and again, I have the convertible). That's because I went with the 1LT version of this car, which, after owning the C8 coupe 2LT (yes, I have two), I found the 1LT is a better deal for the money. The 2LT's wireless charging is weird because my phone doesn't fit with its case on (which is a case designed for wireless charging). It's way too thin. Also, the front lift was completely unnecessary, something my C5 would have KILLED for, because I scraped that sumbitch every damn day haha. So I definitely recommend the 1LT if you're going vert, because it comes with the rear-view mirror camera anyway, and is just the better deal.
Oh and, body colored nacelles (which is what the car in this video has) is a HUGE no-no. Go for the carbon flash colored nacelles and thank me later.

I understand why you focused on the C8's track aspect, just remember, 99% of the drivers of both the C8 and its competition you mentioned will never track them. Your 99% will never track this car makes the Z51 package stupid to buy. It offers you better brakes but only if you are tracking the car so that your brakes are overheating. It offers diff cooling which will never come up unless you track your car. It also offers you a summertime tire that must be replaced to drive it in the winter. If you never plan to track your car why pay for all of these extras? This car as a base model's performance is so over the head of 99% of its owners that the Z51 package becomes a phallic symbol.

Car reviewers love to talk about subtleties of handling balance, communicativeness of steering etc. Things which are drastically altered by alignment or tire swaps alone. If reviewers think a car you like understeers too much, add some negative camber up front. If they think it is numb, maybe a different tire, or different toe settings. Corvettes for over a decade have had an amazing level of suspension adjustment from the factory. Huge range of camber adjustment, ride height adjustable, you can corner balance it for your body weight, etc etc. However you want it to feel, you can make it feel that way.

I argue that the *actual* buying demographic for this car and the LC 500 are very similar, looking for a fun GT car that has the drama and theater. As mentioned in the video, the performance you get at the price point blows the LC 500 out of the water. That paired with the "this is an AMERICAN car" makes it an easier sell than the Lexus.

Great review, I want to hear about my worries during a review....the small nagging issues, like the buttons, the seats, the leather, the squeaks and rattles. Thank you for talking about these kind of things....99% of us are not going to the track with our cars, we want to know about reliability, quality and the total experience not just the 0-60.

I've always thought: how did GM put the best interior they've ever designed in the most awkward looking tryin-to-be-a supercar body they've ever designed? "Kit car" body is right. As much a marvel as this car is, its styling pushes me towards more expensive mid-engined cars because they simply look better.

Same. I recognize it as a great engineering achievement and I love the fact it still has a N/A V-8. I just do not like how it looks!

GM employee: Ugh, does the interior REALLY have to be good? It can't be made out of horse manure and toe nails like every other GM so we can save money? Okay (takes deep breath).

I don’t really like the rear. However the front and side profile are great. Plus having a trunk in the back surely will be useful. I can’t wait for the z06 to come out

They keep talking about $80K, but almost none of these cars were able to be purchased for that amount of money. You couldn’t sniff that for under $100K in 2021. And gals from Applebees don’t care about track options. Duh.

Personally, I wish that the body design had been more of an evolution of the C7, but I can understand that changing the entire architecture of the drivetrain probably precluded them from doing so.

I think the body looks like a good fusion between a C7 design and C2 body lines, all the way until you get to that rear, talk about design by committee. I wish they had kept with the circle taillights.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I love it. IMO its the best looking modern gen Corvette. The performance is amazing and the price is far better than its competitors. Coup or convertible, this is an American car I'd be Very proud to own. If I could only afford one....... My problem not GM.

I think GM did a damn good job, look at it this way, I don't have to pay 150,000 to $300,000 for a sports car. I have a C5, C6, C7, and I am going to buy a C 8. as a navy vet, I will also buy a corvette. I would love to buy be a 1972 Corvette

Respectfully disagree with Goose on the exterior styling. The old styling was/is great, but I like the new look as well. It's also the first Corvette where the interior is a real highlight. One thing it DOES carry over from previous Corvette models: amazing bang for your buck. It only looks bad when it's compared to cars that cost 10k-30k more
