- This homemade chick brooder box is the best chick brooder I've come up with. It's a no mess brooder box design with a simple parts list! This simple brooder is built with 2x2's, 1/2" hardware cloth, and a hand full of screws. With homesteading, replacement chickens are a must, and a commonly-overlooked farm item is a dependable chick brooder / duck brooder / quail brooder box. This design easily rolls off of a trash bag liner, so you can actually clean up after chicks without even getting your hands dirty! Thanks so much for watching.
Parts List:
• 6 each: 60" 2"x2"
• 14 each: 21" 2"x2"
• 24 of 24-inch wide 1/2" hardware cloth
• 2.5" exterior wood screws
• Two small hinges
• One small handle
• Some small chain
• Small furniture wheels/casters
• (heat lamp, waterer, feeder, etc.)
Best,
Shane

This is literally the only brooder box DIY video that was actually beginner friendly. There's no way I'd be able to do good angled cuts, so I'm grateful for plans that don't require this. Thank you!
Made this model today. Thank you for the plans. It took me about 5 hours but will be well worth it. I did add a couple roosting bars in mine. One right in the middle another that required additional side supports to mount to. I appreciate the speedy video that was concise in time but extensive in content.
Very slick. Effective, lightweight, Mobil. What’s not to like. I like the wheels for mobility, dragging, pushing or pulling with resistance can certainly challenge a lighter weight structure. Nice job
Thank you! I am being to learn how to do woodworking. I think that I might be able to do this project myself !
I really love this and I think I could do this by myself. Great video!
Hey, man, thanks for the idea. This was a quick, easy, relatively inexpensive build - and a great one if you plan to keep your chicks in a garage or shed (which I do). I build 2 of them. Took the better part of a day.
Loved this build very simple and to the point. Going to try this out next week!
Love this idea!! My favorite part was the stapling sound lol so funny
That's a flipping sweet design!
I just builded one today using same material you suggested. It was easy and cost effective. Thank you so much for sharing.

Beautiful. Simple ,well you make it look easy ,, I think I hang the light on the board in the middle though ❤
Nice work!
Thanks made this and it looks awesome
Really nice work
Thanks Glenn
Awesome
Nice design, not too expensive.
I built this today but I unused 1/4 inch on the bottom was worried about legs going thru that 1/2 inch
Nice gwork
I'm looking to build the kind of brooder that goes outside that you ain't got to worry about your biddies getting rained on
Love this thanks for sharing! One question - What do you put on the bottom hardware cloth? I imagine a lot of wood chips would fall through, so do you use something else? Putting something like cardboard would defeat the purpose of the garbage bag beneath.
Maybe this is only a concern for the first week or so while they are tiny but I envision many trapped feet :)
I just made this today and put cardboard in the bottom with pine shavings on top.
What size hardware cloth?
Can you give me the measurements for 100 chickens please?
What are the dimensions?
It’s in the description
How many 2x2x8 is that in total?
I am building one today and if I did my math right, it should be 7 total. We'll find out in a few hours! Haha
Scratch that, it's gonna need 9. I'm not the sharpest pencil in the box!
It took 8 for me but I added roosting bars which made it 9.
Why toss out the high nitrogen fertilizer. Don't toss it, age it and use it. At least toss it in a compost pile.
Im planning on putting a shoe storage bin under mine to catch it all for my garden 😮
