@@VeganVoyagers Exactly, to the United States, which is a country within America. America is the whole continent. For some reason people from United States took the 'America' name to name their country and decided to call the rest: 'The Americas'. But the original name of the WHOLE continent is America ;-)
The name of America is after the Italian Merchant Explorer Amerigo Vespucci (In Spanish: Americo) who participated in at least two voyages of the Age of Discovery, first on behalf of Spain (1499-1500) and then for Portugal (1501-1502). In 1503 and 1505, two booklets were published under his name, containing colourful descriptions of these explorations and other alleged voyages. Both publications were extremely popular and widely read across much of Europe. (Wikipedia)
The continent was named America after his wide exploration and documentation of the Continent.

You are right to wonder if that is Europe and the answer is no. Yes ADMINISTRATIVELY and CULTURALLY it's Europe, but GEOGRAPHICALLY it's Africa, just like La Réunion Island (French, next to Madagascar) or just like the British Virgin Islands are not geographically Europe but Carribean ;) It's important to keep that in mind to understand the geological background of the space ;)

Depends on what classify as discovering. For Europeans it was the first one to put it really on a map and made it existence known here. Yes there were people from here who already visited it such as the Vikings but that knowledge didn't pass to other Europeans.

Geographically it is Africa, from a historic, economic, political and social-cultural point of view it is Europe. In the way of travelling there it feels like Europe as well because it is part of Spain so part of EU.

Those were the rules at that time in Spain. So if you visit a country you better respect and follow those rules. I have seen people getting fined by police because they didn't follow the rules.

@@macloidins I am not going to discuss my personal views if it is madness or not. This was shot September 2020 and at that time these were the rules and I am already happy at that time I can travel to different countries. And if you visit a country you just have to respect all its rules how crazy some of them may sound including this one. In the end you are still a visitor.

Or you respect the rules which were in place at that moment in time we were there. And if you don't agree with them you don't visit that country at that moment in time and go another time when the rules have changed. For example now.

When you travel you have to accept the local rules. In this case that is wearing a mask when you are outside.
