I would like to thank you for being so verbal on your channel….my husband has been a mechanic since he was 13. He lost his sight in a chemical accident at the age of 34. He still worked on vehicles, even though it took him longer to accomplish some tasks. He is now 79 and slowing down a bit. He really enjoys your videos and often talks to you on the screen telling you what you need to do to fix the issue. And then you follow his advice!! It’s truly funny to watch and listen to the two of you!!! Lol! Thanks for all you do!!
That's such a lovely story :) Thank you for sharing!
Boy oh boy this just gives the ol heart strings a twang.
Glad he enjoys this, and thanks for the story.
I was going to say 'God bless you' but I can see that he already has. Thanks for sharing you and your husbands wonderful story.
You’re right though I enjoy just listening to VG as well
Yes, I want to see the engine swap. That looks like something that could help the new guys getting into fixing trucks.
Great idea
Thats most of his videos man, he has a engine rebuild vid and another of installing the same engine he rebuilt.
I agree too. Always looking forward to working on the old rigs there
@@TexasBornGamer666 that was a big block for Independence. What a feller means is revealing an old mill
@@Mr.Safety. He has a rebuild of a 307 Chevy, for sure not a big block...
Derek, probably the best explanation for Joe Everyday on how to diagnose timing and tune a carburetor by ear. I learned this 60 years ago from my father on my first car, a 1941 Plymouth Business Coupe (I kick myself twice a day that I no longer have it). Great show, great channel, you, Jess and the boys are what 'Merica is all about. Thanks.
Dude, you never cease to amaze me. As a blind person watching automotive videos, just the sound of that old truck made me smile. So glad you could get it back up and running. Keep the great videos coming. Good to see more classics on the road and being used
This is probably an ignorant question, but how does one navigate youtube, non the less a comment section, while being blind?
@@monotonecookie8939 he has a seeing-eye wife….🥰
The combination of Derek being silly and the video editing makes these so much fun to watch. Laughter is the best way to brighten our days.

I remember when I was a young kid my dad would work on the car, and when he did I was always there with him watching and learning about engines. It brings back good memories when I see Bently out there with you too. These are the times no one will ever be able to take from him when he gets older.
Derek had me on the floor when he started rapping the REGULATORS song. Omg 🤣🤣🤣
I’ll tell you what, a guy’s real happy he’s got a new VGG episode to watch to kick off the weekend! You’re the man Derek!!
yeS!
Yip, my wife was laughing at me cos i got all excited when i saw the new episode
Well, I just. That’s good.
Definitely!
A older fella here in town (Gothenburg, Sweden) drives this bodystyle, every day, rain or shine. I'm not sure if it's a GMC or a Chevy but it's got the longer bed. Now some of you that read this would think that this is nothing special because you live in the US of A. But imagine that you live in a country where gas is double of what it is in 'merica and that most people are driving VW ID4, Tesla or some other electrical car, this older guy is a legend in my book. I don't know what he does for a living besides being awesome but I bet he hasn't given a flying you know what in the last 30 years about what anyone thinks. He's just a legend. Oh yeah it's got a louder exhaust as well so incase you don't see him, you will definitely damn sure hear him!
Derek is a Life mentor: it might be broken now in the morning but with a little faith and diligence, it will be all right and running by the end of the day...
Two things I note:
1. I'm deeply envious of the Short Square Bodies you keep picking up.
2. Watching you wrench on them is the closest I'll ever get in Britain to any kind of spannering on these gorgeous old rigs and I'm very grateful for your vijyas for letting a feller hook his peepers on the process!
Same here, fellow Brit completely envious of the opportunities the good old US of A has to offer 👍
“We also got a dragging brake, so we better just take it easy”- Derek seconds before flooring it
Definitely a fan of the crossover content with Cleetus and all, but getting back to what originally drew me to your channel is always welcomed. Love it all so much.
Teaching the importance of fixing and reusing... tired of the throw away mentality, these videos are so amazing! Thanks for all you do! That truck is amazing, want one like that someday!
You folks are a beacon of light and hope. I remember going to work with the old man at that age during the summers. He was also a self made man who worked hard. Wrenching all hours. Travel. Snacks. Some of my fondest memories. Lessons I apply still today. Thank you sincerely
When he cranks the motor and it cuts to him looking left/right/left/right was gold! 🤣
Thank you and your family for consistently giving us the highest-quality entertainment over the years. You guys ROCK! No one else quite like you Derek and I’m not sure there ever will be.
150% agree with you.

I’m 147.6% in agreement as well
I'm at a close %149.987270 agreement. Just maybe just maybe Derek will find a 1982 Firebird 2.5 4cyl somewhere just ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ᵐᵃʸᵇᵉ.

Completely agree! This is old school goodness and humor, no need for vulgarity. One of my biggest reasons for watching!
There used to be cussing in the early days btw. Adds an interesting dimension
That starter noise imitation at 18:40 was actually really accurate.
I always wondered how Dodge made a starter make that sound. Probably some Quantum intangibles.
@@garywi.9299 gear reduction, I believe...

@@mattmanyam even my 1971 D-100 had a low cranking starter, always made me think the battery was running down. My truck had the non-destructible 225 slant 6, sold it with just under 400,000 miles on it.
70s models short and wide is my dream truck always has been. I've finally found one for 1500 that's complete but a restoration project. Tryna sell my cars so I can get it to make memories with my 5yo daughter. Fingers crossed. I love your videos. Keep it up. Hope to be there one day.
EDIT: Coming back across this vid and my own comment. update! I've got my chevy. It's not a shorty but it's an 83 Silverado 1500 I picked up for 800. minus an engine it's all there and straight. Only 2 small cash bill sized spots I could patch with a lunchbox (just humor. I'd never use a lunchbox lol) but here we are, and the story begins. I should start a CZcams channel for the rebuild so she can watch the process when she's grown. Also, I love those roads around there. It's hard to find good winding canopied roads like that.
After a really crappy day at work I needed this video, Thank you Derek ! I laughed , I learned , I de-stressed . Always love the family coming along for the ride, you're raising them right!
I love seeing Derek's adventures with different events, special projects, especially those where the fam gets involved. But my favorite times are when he finds these old girls and brings them back to life. It never gets old for me.
This episode was hilarous. All it was missing is 5000 mile roadtrip. Thank you Derek for great entertainment, just keep them coming.

I appreciate the regulators reference. I do the same thing everytime I sell a voltage or fuel pressure regulator. I've also been know to sing hoes in different areas codes whenever I sell a hose. Drives my coworkers insane. I love it.

this was very, I mean very enjoyable, kept me motivated to stay inside instead of doing useful things outside this afternoon. Thank you very much Derek!
That was, by far, the BEST MOPAR starter imitation! 5 Stars, would recommend to a friend.

Dude, never fail to impress. Keep doing what you do. Love the more indepth "high dollar" things as well but we all come back for this right here! Making the most of what is in front of you.
This episode is pure essential Derek, all the stuff that made me start watching a guy, all funny, all the editing that perfectly magnifies that laugh make-it-happener (a true skill often overlooked by content providers). Enjoyed this one after a crappy day that ended a bad week. Thanks, bud!
I love Derek’s choice of music, too.
Thank you for the kind words
I really liked the instructional stuff at the end! Bringing back a 1983 2.8 l S-10 with NO marks where the distributor goes in (my fault) after head gaskets, etc. I did mark everything at dis-assy but then did the right thing and cleaned it all up real good! (Removing the sharpie marks) 😂
Enjoy the program - even the old ones - all I can say is you have some very understanding neighbours.
Hi Derek, I had a 79 Chevrolet Truckolator and had an engine miss that sounded similar to the one here. Did everything to it trying to get rid of the miss. The engine would purr like a kitten at idle and miss when the gas pedal was depressed. Now this engine only had 65,000 miles on it. As a last effort before throwing a grenade under the hood I called my brother an ex GM mechanic and he informed me that GM had bunch of soft cams that were put into the 350's. Sure enough it was my problem. Took a day had a new cam, lifters and timing chain installed and that motor ran another 150,000 miles and was still running strong when I sold it. Thanks for the content, Always brings a smile when you release a new video.
Looking forward to seeing what you do next!!!! Cheers Derek!!!!
Ole T ROY.. love tour Channel bro you've taught me alot. Glad your on this side as well
T-Roy in the comments again! I I still think y’all should do a crossover. Maybe since both you guys have a soft spot for the vets (who doesn’t?) it could be something to help support some good charities.

Well….
All be dipped.
First start. Amazing what you can do to these motors. And here. People are just letting them sit for years thinking tue motor is blown or the Carb isn’t working. Or no sparkles.
It does make sense how you start from the trunk/box first.
Then to the cabin area.
Then to the motor.
Thank you for bringing these old vehicles back to life. Even if it’s just the motors.
Well done Darek.
And well done to Jessica and the kids.
Yer kids will be thanking you years down the road for what you are teaching them. Yer a great teacher to them.
Oh. O felt that rock you threw to Cananada. That hit me. You struck first blood :P 🤭
Hey Derek. Thanks for what you do. Lost it with the "june bug to the face". I ride a lot and I'll never forget taking a hummingbird to the chest at 55 mph., pointy end first. That'll make you pull to the side and say "oof".
Ouch!!
I took a yellow jacket to the forehead at 70 mph. Stung me and everystuff. That sucked
I most definitely want to see an engine transmission swap into the other truck. Make one good one out of two.
Well, make 1.5 good ones out of 1.5 good ones, just rearranged so one drives. That other one is still .5 of a good truck... Maybe .35 with the missing title.
Great episode! Love the square body stuff. I have no problem with the idea of you hauling them home, then gettin' em running. You're right to use the garage to avoid the ticks. Between them and the bird-size mosquitos you'll be down a pint of blood daily in your tree-row. Lastly, if you like the back-sweat in early June, you are gonna LOVE August! Welcome to the south!
Best sound effects ever always makes me laugh and smile. when Derek post it’s an amazing day keep doing your thing man😂.
The time I most remember fondly of my dad , where times just like this. Still remember the 1st time i helped him work on the yellow and white chevy (the yellow goose), changing out the driveshaft. Thanks for bringing those memories flooding back to the forefront. NICE!!
When buying autos, pictures on the internet can be like beer goggles in a bar. The bright light the next morning is rarely kind in either case.
Just discovered the channel. I've always had old cars and my job is a 300 mile delivery route 5 nights a week. As a student of the McGuiver school of "just make it work" mechanics, it appeals to me on every level. I couldn't even tell you how many times I've had to pull over and fix my car just enough to make it home using zip ties and duct tape, maybe a ratchet or two. I especially enjoy the "will it drive x miles" videos, great stuff.
Derek, thanks for bringing back some good memories for a guy! Many cruises with my dad when I was a young buck. A lot of them were just evening imagination cruises sitting on some buckets in a ‘65 Satellite and dreaming together until she was completed many years later!
New to the channel but love it. I am 35 and recently lost my dad. Although it has been many years since him and i have taken a lost and forgot about car from a field and revived it watching your videos took me right back to it. Reminds me of the 74 Chevy truck I bought from a coworker. The guy put m/t valve covers, Pinto bucket seats and a manual shifter from a car in it. It ran ok but leaked oil like a champ. I got to tinkering with it and found all the plugs had "anti fowlers" on them. Those make good fishing weights when fishing around rocks. Pulled the dist cap off and found the points fouled with oil. WTH??? Had a spark plug jammed into the PCV line. WAIT aint no breather on this beast. Stopped the oil leak when I put a oil breather cap on it. Thanks for the memories and keep up the good work.
