  • @JU13ES
    @JU13ES Před 7 měsíci +450

    the clicking you are hearing as drums is actually the bass! Fieldy sets his tone up to max out the treble and the bass but scoops out the mids, so the clicks from his slapping technique really stound out and the deep tones are REALLY deep. He is often times called a drummer on bass. A lot of bass players mimic the guitars, Fieldy does that with the drums instead.

      As well as Fieldy's bass tone David snare is a bit sharper than is common over the last decade or so. That sharper sound shows up a lot in earlier Nu Metal, especially in bands who emulate the slap bass

      Rare combination of all-time song and video. Not many of those at all(but, man, we did get some bangers in the mid/late '90s & early '00s; Mudvayne's 'Dig' has to be one of the more memorable straight performance videos, talk about announcing your arrival).

      @AManCalledMoose Před 6 měsíci

      @@RyTrapp0 indeed! The 70s were so diverse, everything from heavy rock to disco to punk and several things in-between. The 80s were like a teenager trying to find its true identity. The 90s saw the angst of a generation break forth.

      1) I like it
      2) not my cup of tea

    You asked if this song represented KoRn.
    Yes and no.
    This is by far their most popular song and the one that pushed them firmly into the spotlight.
    But you said it correctly that it's very hard to nail down their sound in one song.
    Jon Davis is a FANTASTIC vocalist and inspired generations of singers with his ability to seemly transition between "clean" and "harsh" vocals and adding in various non-word vocalizations.
    Since you enjoyed the video so much, if you plan to follow up with more KoRn I would suggest "Falling Away From Me" as that music video sort of picks up as this one ends.
    Other songs that help capture KoRn: Coming Undone, Here To Stay, Right Now, Rotting in Vain, Make Me Bad.
    If you want more emotional songs: Thoughtless, Souvenir, Somebody Someone. And on a personal note: Can You Hear Me? is a song that super resonates and helps me when I'm depressed.
    If you want to guaranteed cry on camera: Daddy. This song comes with a few trigger warnings and is a masterclass at capturing raw emotion in a music studio. Many people have reacted to it, but it wasn't easy for any of them.
    And lastly if you ever just want to hear Jon Davis and his vocal range in a fantastic setting and a nice free concert (but far too long to react too) search up "Jonathan Davis And The SFA (Alone I Play: Live At The Union Chapel) FULL", grab some tea and sit and enjoy.

    One of the biggest influences on Korn's early style came from a band called Mr. Bungle and the singer for that band, Mike Patton, is an amazing singer too.

    I just found you this morning. The description you're looking for on the sounds of the drums you're looking for is "tribal". Quick hard and deeply in presence. The way you have described the songs in your videos so far has literally made me emotional listening to your description of these songs. Hearing someone else explain the exact reason I absolutely love these songs is something I've never experienced before. You have a faithful subscriber here. So glad I found you.

    Jonathan Davis is incredible... and that drop always gets me, and one thing that Korn always did so well was that 'wall of sound' with the guitars. This song and music video especially felt like a shift in music when it was released, and Korn was a real force in the 90's. Loved the reaction and analysis!
    Also 'Falling Away from Me' is the follow up track to 'Freak On A Leash', and I think worth a reaction

    During the breakdown of the song, the sheer joy and brightness that came over your face is the same feeling that most of us had the first time we heard this song. The way he back and forths with the drums always makes me smile and the sound design on all of their songs in general is one of the many reasons I've been a Korn fan since the 90s. Jonathan Davis wrote the music for the Queen of the Damned soundtrack and he performs the music in the movie but hearing the stark contrasts between the soundtrack during the movie and the released album is always a must listen! I hope this song opened up you listening to more of them because boy does this band hit you in the feels out of nowhere! Enjoy!!!
