  • On 14 May 1991, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh arrived in Washington DC at the start of a 12-day tour of the USA. While in Washington, the Queen held a press conference with US President George HW Bush, where the Queen fell victim to a tall podium which, in comical fashion, hid her from view as she spoke. She then referenced the incident later in an address to Congress, beginning her speech: "I do hope you can see me today from where you are." The joke was met with a standing ovation from the House.
    As well as the nation's capital, the Queen visited the states of Virginia, Maryland, Florida, and Texas. Coming only three months after the Gulf War and the liberation of Kuwait from Iraqi occupation, the Queen was welcomed in Florida by General Norman Schwarzkopf Jr, who had served as the Commander of the Kuwaiti Theater of Operations - the head of the 35-country military coalition that expelled Iraqi forces from Kuwait. During their time together, the Queen made General Schwarzkopf a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath.
    The first British Monarch to step foot on Texan soil, the Queen spent three days in the state, visiting the cities of Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip ended their tour by attending a gospel service at Houston's Antioch Baptist Church.

    Americans really showed up for the Queen when she passed - and as a Brit, I will be eternally grateful for the love and respect they showed her in life.
    Those are our true friends right there, and in our lowest moments they show up without fail. 🇺🇲🇬🇧

      Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was our adopted Queen. Most of us have known no other, and she lived her life in such an admirable and respectable way. Still can’t believe that the Queen is no more…and rather horrified by her replacement.

      I'll never forget how considerate the queen was to Americans on 911. She ordered the royal band to play America's national anthem after 3 aircrafts drove into 2 buildings located in New York and Washington D.C. The passengers on the 3rd plane rushed the highjackers driving the plane into the ground in Pennsylvania, killing everyone on board. Plane number 3 was headed to d.c. destroy the white house. However no county's national anthem has ever been played in Great Britain in 1,000 years except for America's. That's the kind of person the queen was. History tells us our forefathers knew the king very well. Infact Dianna's ancestors were friends with our first president George Washington. Her family invited our president and his wife Martha to Dianna's family home for dinner often. And remember.. America will always help the citizens of u.k. remain safe. stay well

      @@bakenumber4 Yes, 9/11 was an awful day, we know all about it in the UK because when you stopped on that day, we did too - we stopped and stood with you. The Queen also opened 'the Queens Garden' at the Ground Zero memorial. It was about this that the Queen said "grief is the price we pay for love".
      As a Brit, I was 13 and at school on the day of the attack, I remember alot of commotion among the teachers as the news came out, and a whole school Assembly was called so we could have the news broken to us, as children, properly. I remember overhearing 2 teachers talking: "If there was ever a reason to fight back, it is this". I will never forget it. Thank you for your comment.

      @Huw Wilson @Huw Wilson you probably encountered children on Twitter with green hair and poorly educated- and the UK versions of them were no better.

      911 was also,in terms of British people killed, the countries largest terrorist attack.

    Prince Philip is exactly the man I would want beside me if I had to do what The Queen did. I’m so comforted every time I see him. So strong, so male, so honorable, so handsome.

    5:53 - “she forgot everything” 💀😂 but The Queen was so gracious about it. 💜 I miss her. I’ve never been to the UK, but a few days ago visited Saskatchewan (Canada) where they have a statue of her. My face lit up and I took a number of pictures with it. It made my day.

    The most import event during this visit starts at 9:45 , when the Queen addressed a joint session of Congress. This a considered to be one of the highest honors the US government can bestow on a visiting head of state. Only "A List" world leaders are given this honor, and the Queen most definitely was in that league. 🇺🇸 🇬🇧

    @ 6:43 to 6:48 I had to rewatch this portion of the video a couple of time. The narrator was describing the extreme heat that luncheon and they showed men sweating and women fanning themselves, as they continued they zoomed into the queens lap where she had a light beige colored napkin, the camera angle makes it look like the Queen had her legs apart airing out the ol’royal cooter, but she wasn’t.

      Of course she was the monarch of Canada for over 70 years! It's only natural that she visited her own kingdom more than any other countries!

    • @Zadir09
      @Zadir09 Před dnem

      Canada is still tied to the crown voluntarily as that's basically what caused Canada, Loyalists to the crown fled north, it's only fair then for them to want their Monarch. I understand the reasoning and am in many ways sympathetic at this point in history to those who want their Sovereign for a sense of unity and belonging.

    HM sits on the platform with her knees firmly together and ankles crossed, the very picture of demure modesty. At 5:28 Barbara Bush is seen with her knees spread and the camera looking straight up her skirt!
