    How Prince Charles chose Camilla over Diana baffles me till this day

    • @RichardBrennan
      @RichardBrennan Před 3 lety +371

      Diana was a teenager while Camilla was a smart, sophisticated woman - Charles's equal. Yes, Diana grew into an extraordinary woman - but she never had a chance to take Camilla's place. Charles needed someone to dote on him and be his support. Diana needed someone to love and support her. Neither one had what the other needed. They could only frustrate one another.

      @risingphoenix8072 Před 3 lety +5

      @@angelicaxyz.m.turiao3717 I understand what you’re referring to, but that instance led to civil war.
      After the only son of Henry VIII, Protestant Edward VI became ill, he attempted to change the succession away from his Catholic sister Mary in favor of his Protestant cousin Lady Jane Grey. When Edward died, Mary marched on London with an army, reclaimed the throne, and Jane was eventually executed. After Mary came her sister Elizabeth I. Neither Mary nor Elizabeth had children, so the throne went to their cousin James VI of Scotland/James I of England - he was next in line of succession through HenryVIII’s older sister Margaret.
      The lines of succession require an Act of Parliament to change (or an abdication, but it may be that an abdication by Charles would remove his entire line (William, his 3 children, Harry, and Archie) from the succession. Though maybe Parliament could remedy that if necessary, I’m not sure how that works
      See, succession is regulated through Parliament and is not subject to popularity. If for no other reason, to stop royal brothers, sisters, and cousins from killing each other for the throne, or have the public fighting over which heir they prefer (modern civil war) 😊.
      Fascinating history, worth looking into

    It's awesome. The queen had a normal childhood before her uncle abdicated. Her parents were always with her and Margaret then Bertie became George VI. Governess bought them up. The pressure she had as a child grew as she got older. The Queen Mother was a good mum but she favored Margaret more than Elizabeth. This, and the fact that she's a queen of the whole country and other realms, affected her relationship with her 2 eldest children. Especially Prince Charles. Let's say she wasn't that greatest mother we expected her to be, but ever since she became an heir, it has been her motto that the crown, country, and duty must always come first before self and family.

Given the distressful treatment to her by Harry & Meghan, before and after Prince Phillip's death. During her own final year, while suffering with bone cancer and grieving the loss of her husband of over 70 yrs, they gave her so much heartache, disappointment and worry.
