- In October 1986, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh made a historic visit to the People's Republic of China. Beginning the tour in the capital of Peking (Beijing), the Queen and the Duke were welcomed by presdient Li Xiannian and a parade on Tiananmen Square. Over the following days, the pair visited the Forbidden City in Beijing's Dongcheng District and were treated to a banquet hosted by President Li. ITN's cameras caught Queen Elizabeth II's warm meeting with Deng Xiaoping, the country's unofficial but undisputed leader credited with building modern China by reforming its society and opening up its economy.
Visits to the Great Wall of China and the port city of Shanghai saw the Queen greeted by adoring crowds; in Shanghai the monarch visited the historic Huxinting Teahouse with Sir Geoffrey Howe. Later that day, the Queen and the Duke invited President Li and his wife onto the Royal Yacht Britannia for a banquet. During a particularly amusing photocall, the president's wife told him to straighten his glasses before the Queen jokingly informed him that he was allowed to smile for the cameras. The archaeological wonder of the Terracotta Army in Shaanxi Province was of great interest to Prince Philip, and the Queen and Duke enjoyed a boat trip on Lake Dianchi before ending their trip in Canton.

No creo que la reina se haya sentido muy cómoda en esa vista
😢 ni como preguntarle
her majesty visited our hometown during this trip😂
Did she visit former Emperor PuYi?
Puyi died in 1969
La reina ama a mao.
I cannot help wondering whether the Queen cringed inside when watching the children dancing like trained robots, one even danced with a plastic garbage bin at her back, though it doesn’t show on her face at all. The translator dressed perfectly for that time. - as a Chinese person grew up during that time and now a citizen of the commonwealth , it now feels so exotic yet familiar at the same time to watch these footage.
What is the name of the Chinese song at the starting of the video
Why should she cringe? Children dancing like robots were done all over the world 😂😂😂😂😂
Banality of the “elite”.
Apparently the british didn't cared much about China at the time. The narrator pronounced Chairman Li Xian Nian's name as something like "Li Xianyang", and later called a Chinese Red Flag limo a "Red Star", talking about rigorous jounalism... Wonder how much has changed, perhaps not a lot.
There are man-made things visible from "space" but the Great Wall isn't one of them...at least not without special equipment.
🕊🇺🇲💕
1:43 Chinese Anthem
funny how this video showd 3 leaders of china, but none was the president li xiannian.
the three leaders are: deng xiaoping, just like what the commentator said, has no tittle at that time, but was the real paramount leader.
hu yaobang, at that tims was the party leader.
and jiang zeming, at that time was the party secretary of Shanghai city. 5 yrs later, he will becam the paramount leader of china.
on the other hand, president li was never had any real power. he was chosen to be president mostly because seniority.
🎬♟️
The commentary is dripping in condescension.
The commentator is funny.
9:28 The commentator doesn't think much of the royal dragon throne.🤣
9:40 The interpreter with the limitless words.🤣

@@seemasonigra829 Sorry I don't know it.
It doesn’t matter, coz UK is now a basketcase with homeless all over the London streets with decaying tube stations which is no comparison to the trains ,not even mentioning the bullet trains in China.
Xi jing pin.. It should be Queen elizabeth
God save the late queen

以前的中国真是贫穷啊,自从宋朝之后生活水平都没怎么提高,还好近20年翻天覆地地发展了
Kissenger support China.
They are all inda same bed.
We need to get rid of all these silly uncomfortable shoes for women's feet. #Puma #Llbean #Hushpuppies #Rf 🙏 our safe steps.
"How condescending is British?"
Watch this video
Elizabeth is a 女王 “queen” not a 女皇 “empress”
我认为这个视频的解说充满了一直以来对中国的偏见。I think the commentary in this video is full of long-standing prejudices against China.
There were inappropriate snide remarks.
Has anyone else noticed the disrespectful and condescending language of the narrator? No wonder they lost the "Empire" and now enjoy an ever-residing backseat to the Americans and the rest of Europe.
Indeed.
Nobody cares about the queen
I admire about the queen. I strongly believe there are many people who believe like me
Uffffff
Maybe you ,don't care but many people do ! Who are you to speak for people ?
The Queen je dead but I still admire and love her ! I am French...
女王是善良的、宽容的、乐观的、坚强的人。当年的欢迎活动虽然是中国政府组织的,但是人们从内心尊重这位女性。今天,大多数中国人依然对女王充满敬意❤🙏
nobody cares about you😂
