- Today I am making the Trip to Patong beach in Phuket. In this video, I will give you a look at how Phuket is in 2024, show you around my hotel, and explain how I got a great deal on the room. I rent a Motorcycle, I also give tips on how to get a great deal, avoid an old scam and what you need to do when renting. In the afternoon, I head to Patong Beach to catch the sunset, before heading out to Bangla Road and then my Favourite Bar in Phukets Nightlife district to see some old friends!

Lots of comments about the Passport thing.. Phuket is “run” a little different to everywhere else in Thailand, I have been to about 20+ shops to investigate this and they all require a physical passport.. if anyone knows a place that doesn’t require it, let me know.
I have been to Phuket and they are ok with just having a picture of your passport. I really recommand Diamond Phuket Airport Scooter Motorbike Rental, it's just outside the airport and if you just have a backpack it's the best, you skip the grab and you can drive directly where you want to go from the airport.
That’s good to know, I did wonder if not being in an area that caters to tourists would make a difference.. that’s a long ride to Patong though haha
I always travel with two driving licenses and I will leave one as at deposit. This has always worked over every part of Thailand so far!

@@keisone yeah in Phuket (English driving licence) it was about 6 years ago last time I was there though so maybe things have changed.
I always advise people to get two driving licenses before they go backpacking in Asia to use one of them as a deposit in various places because if someone tries to scam you can always just walk away.

You can get from the airport to Patong & vice versa via "Phuket Smart Bus", 100 baht. It has air conditioning too 🙂
It has a few stops along the way but I enjoyed the view.

Yeah i got a bus. Had to hang around a bit for it to leave . Wasn't the most comfortable but cheap and plenty of stops

Just pay 3000 baht security deposit, make sure you get that written on your rental agreement and your good! No need to leave your passport ! Ps ... let the photocopy it ... but you dont need to leave it !

One of the biggest turn off are the taxi mafia 🤬. Bars scare the hell out of me because of scammers and getting ripped off so I never go to bars. Last time I went to a bar is 30 years ago 😂😂😂😂

I used to stay in that area of Phuket 20-30 years ago at a joint called Patong Beach Hotel which I presume is long gone. Great location, although I haven’t been there for gems.
In chiang mai, they wanted to do the passport thing with me but i was living there for months, ended up putting down 5k baht deposit instead. gotta make it to phuket at some stage. great vid!

There is a motorcycle rental place across from the airport that was good bikes for a good price. Saves on bolt taxi each way

Dude what the hell were you even trying for on that first 8 ball drop... musta been the beer. Owner was married to a Mexican so the tacos are great! Pool table is great. A must stop for me every time as well. Sadly not in Thailand now, but it was one of my regular spots. Happy hour tacos! Get em folks. If you're a decent player and want a challenge, Bam Bam is a fantastic player. Make sure to buy her a drink if she beats you.

I was jut in Phuket in March, and the god damn Thai prime minister showed up one night to Bangla Road, that was cool !!! I must come to Happy Cactus next time I come through for sure.

Yeah I would not recommend handing over your passport. Many places won't ask for it but they will copy your license instead which is better.
Almost every time I rent a bike in Phuket the standard is to leave your passport.. if you know any shops that don’t do this in Phuket let me know and I’ll check them out 😊
My follow on advice from this is to go to a bigger more reputable shop.
I can’t remember the name of the shops, but I’ve been to a few and all they require is a photocopy of your passport and a 3000 baht bond that you get back when you return the bike.
I’ve been going there for 17 years. I’ve ridden a scooter every time and I’ve never left my passport with anybody.

Last year during high season was the worse , I paid 30,000 baht for a pcx150 for three months ( I know I was getting ripped off but that’s all I could find ).. this past high season I paid 11000 baht for a pcx160 for two months
terrain in phuket is majestic the hills and windy roads make motorbike riding there mad fun 😎 i just dont do it at night...taxi only!! crazy ass falangs riding drunk and speeding / horrific accident a few weeks back in rawai

Crazy the a 40 baht meal is 150 in Phuket. I suppose it's location. I think I have been to Phuket about five times and really wanted to like it but it was not great. I would pick Samui over Phuket every time. More chilled. I never even had to show my passport there. I knew the guy so away you go. A good tip is take the most crappy and scratched up bike you can then they won't know if you drop it.
Interesting. Stayed away from both for years but tried phuket last year and tbf it's a great island, plenty to do on the bike etc but very touristy and very expensive. Going to give samui a go next

They will allow you to substitute your passport instead of the 10,000 baht cash deposit the Xmax usually goes for.
Its really up to you what you leave for the deposit!

@@keisone I don't know how many times I've had to tell the same guy I don't want a suit, I'm in patong now I don't even want to leave the hotel. The jet ski, paragliding guys are the worst they don't leave you alone from the time you hit the sand until the time you leave.

Yeah but some taxi drivers are also on the bolt app
never give your passport when renting a bike, they almost always accept money which they will give you back after you return it (normally like 1000-2000 baht if i remember correctly)
Patong have good local cheap restaurant for 100 baht a meal just need to go on secondary road and not in front of the beach road and tourism street where Everything is cost more 😬

Motorbike for rent Chok patong
Is the best motor bike place. They will take deposit too but it’s 10k if you don’t wanna leave your passport. They are honest though.
I wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving my passport, I’d rather just bolt it everywhere
Bolt is the best from the airport. I believe they can now pick you up from arrivals instead of having to walk to the road.

You’re wrong on passport. Never leave a passport. I live in Phuket (kata) and absolutely can say you are wrong….cash only as a deposit
Yes never give your passport because they can cheat you. Pay for damage you not make or not get your passport back. Giving your passport is also forbidden by your goverment.

Point to note , don’t leave your passport , photo copy signed and dated is enough , like hotels even the big ones that’s all that is needed by law. Also your breaking Australian privacy and security laws by handing over you passport. The embassy will have a laugh at you and call you an idiot. Don’t do it go to another place that follows Thai laws. Even visa agents in Thailand know this but still do it 😂 that’s why so many are also getting cracked down on not just cause of edu visa , There’s an actual law that forbids the removal of a passport from a person.
Literally every bike rental requires that in Phuket though..

It’s weird I know, but that’s the norm here, every bike rental is the same.. the best advice is to choose a large and reputable place.
@@keisonenever hand over your passport give them a copy instead. They dont need your passport but police can fine you if you not show your passport up on request ( experienced it my self).
I have handed over my passport everytime. Never had any issue what so ever.

Just be careful about posting the info of the Grab/Bolt people mate. When I was last in Phuket my Grab driver made me walk to outside the airport as they aren't allowed into the airport. Yours looked like a normal cab so all good. My bloke was just a guy in a sick van.
Because they do it so much cheaper the other cabbies (naturally) kick up a stink about it.

Phuket and the surrounding areas seem to be a lot more expensive say for the likes of Pattaya ......... yourthai drivers lic /bike licence has your passport number on it so no real need to give the passport ..... generally that's to hold you to ransom , I'd just do grab in that case

Don’t EVER hand out your passport!!!!! They can make a copy. If that isn’t good enough go to another rental place!!!!! You legally have to have your passport and your license in your when riding a bike. It’s just a way for a rental company to hold your passport hostage.
