    Really easy to put another V8 engine and gearbox into the Range Rover. Question is, is it still 4WD? does the BECM still work properly, does the key actually start the car? Does the dash work etc. You haven't covered any of this and all we see you do is you short out the starter to start it. I notice you haven't replied to any of your viewers questions. Just not enough info to say this is a good video sorry.

      I doubt he’s able to use the same ignition switch to start the car. Dashboard cluster is probably also non-functional. It’s also highly unlikely he was able to keep the 4wd capability. It’s probably now a 2wd wagon.

      I’ve done a couple of discoveries, and range rovers. You can leave the factory harness in and integrate the ls engine harness in easily.
      Also the factory gauges will work you can put the factory sensors in the ls engine so you will have two coolant temp sensors and oil psi sensors, then the factory speed sensor can be tapped into from the Gm trans. There are conversion kits available to use the Land Rover transfer case on the back of Gm trans. That lets you use the factory speed sensor as well as the Gm

    Range Rover used to use a GM style bell housing I think, in the 70s I believe that bought some Buick castings for motor & transmission, more specifically the Buick 215 aluminum block V8, BUT that was a long time ago. Maybe the bell housing is still GM design?

    Ls swaps are not that hard. The motor and trans are on an independent ecm pcm. Not much to fish through a few wires and add a secondary independent fuse block. And power the cab and accessories oem fuse block from it.
    They put out comparable hp. So drive line ought to be ok within reason

    • @bp9749
      @bp9749 Před 2 lety +2

      Pretty sure if they are anything like the earlier Rovers that's not true. The engine/trans/BCM operate within parameters. I'm sure this guy could have gotten this to run and drive but I'd be curious how he integrated traction control/4wd and kept the BCM happy to keep traction control, AC functions gauges etc. You'd have to fool it to think it was running (Rover engine running)

  • @magmomwise

    Interesting engine swap. Some issues I see is the L322 has a front diff that is bolted to the engine oil pan, so a custom pan fabrication is required to make a swap possible to fit a LS or other engine types to retain the 4WD function.
    The 5.0l engine in these vehicles is a ticking time bomb destine to fail a low miles regardless of how well you maintained it. I'm trying to repair a 2011 L322 5.0L S/C. 80K miles and the timing chains and guides are worn out. Injectors are leaking and high pressure fuel pumps are leaking gas into the oil pan. JLR parts are expensive beyond reason. The vehicle overall has an appealing look. Handling and ride are good. I just don't see it as a long term keeper.
