Chris Chibnall wrote this, ladies and gentlemen.
he write something good ?
So as long as he doesn't have to deal with the extraterrestrial he's doing fine. What could possibly go wrong.
decentradical yea i think his strength is writing character-driven stories. I mean, The Power of Three was kinda good.
Still the Doctor feels more like a side-kick to her own series.
@@Trazynn tbh i like that idea, just not the execution, but it feels way more than classic doctor who this way and i think that was the concept in many regards.
Probably the most disturbing moment from one of the most disturbing episodes of Torchwood. This episode was excellent!
I miss Torchwood, but this was disturbing, not one of my fav episodes. Reminds me more of the x-files.
Scottlp2 It’s back on iplayer btw if your interested
CheetaH thanks
This is still one of my favorite episodes in Series 1 next to Small Worlds, Cyberwoman, Captain Jack Harkness, and End of Days.
I think what shocks Gwen the most is that she has been on the force and seen all kinds of sick people who have killed or maimed. They tend to do it out of self defence, out of fear, out of insanity, out of a need for power, or because they told themselves they were justified. But this man...
He was of sound mind, had no need to kill, wasn't out to protect himself or the survival of his family, or even to gain anything from it. He just did it because it felt good. Abduct someone in the dead of night on a lonely A road in the middle of nowhere and just kill them, because it brings a smile to his face. He knows it is wrong, but he just doesn't care; he gets high off it. And that's what made it so disturbing to Gwen, that not only does this man kill innocent people for the sheer joy of it, but he has also managed to convince a sizeable number to do it too, even have someone working in law enforcement to cover for him.
Even thought the monster is human, and Gwen could at least try and explain it to Rhys, how could she? It disturbed her, and her boyfriend would only fret for her life.
The leader of the cannibals (played by Owen Teale) said this tradition lasted for generations implying their ancestors started it so it wasn’t his idea in the first place.
She was a Cardiff patrol cop. The only real excitement she likely ever had was giving someone a speeding ticket. Her force didn’t even carry gums.
You call that sound of mind? I call it a bold new frontier of snake fuckingly crazy.
If it's something that's been going on for many, many years then nobody I the village would question
I'm not vegan, but it's as normal as those who do eat the flesh of animals
To us, it's a normal aspect of everyday life
To vegans, it's abhorrent
The scariest part is that is that they had no goals no motivations nothing they did it because they amused by it and it pleases them to do these horrible things
Great episode one of my favorites
"Because it made me happy" always sends shivers down my spine.
The darkest sides of people. You hear about things that people just do to each other. Whether it be for war, their sides, religion, or survival. But to me the scariest thing about some of us is that people do terrible things just because. Because a means to an end. Or as this psychopath in this episode said perfectly, because it makes them happy. So twisted.
No aliens no monsters not even an alien gun or armour just humans and this is in the same universe as Doctor who scary :/
Made me feel sick when I first watched it. Only started watching Torchwood recently. Annoyed how much I missed out.
It was amazing how well it slotted into the Doctor Who series as both ran parallel to each other.
@@Trazynn yeah like how Jack leaves at the end of series 1 of Torchwood, was him going with the Doctor in doctor who series 3...
There’s something about the set, the stone work, wood and worn carpet that’s so common in farm houses and even pubs in England that makes it all so claustrophobic and tense.
It’s hard and oddly sharp, if you trip and fall the floor will hurt more than if you fell in your own home. Stone Walls will scrape your skin harshly if you brush against them too hard. The building screams solid but still retains its rough edges that would be smoothed in modern construction.
I’ve been in rooms like that, where it’s so quiet in a way I can’t quite explain. It feels old and used and filled with history…but that history could be anything.
I know many fans say series 1 was a bit naff, but if you look past the storylines and focus on the script itself a lot of it is incredible! Eve proved in this clip that she is an amazing actor and I'm chuffed she's managed to go on and do more stuff since.
Personally I think s1 pales in comparison to s2 and s3 but there’s some gold here. The first episode, this episode, the tenth and eleventh episodes are all good. I especially love how the latter two I mentioned are a lot more character driven, which is why this show is as good as it is. Unlike doctor who, it manages to portray character like we’ve never seen in this universe. Which isn’t doctor who’s fault because it’s not structured to give such in depth development but still. I mean one of my favourite ever characters in fiction at the minute is Owen and that’s just from me reminiscing on watching this show ages ago
I was watching supernatural for the first time recently and there's an episode JUST LIKE THIS. It was similar in so many ways down to even some of the lines, but they were both made in the same year... I wonder if it was a coincidence
🤔
It was a supernatural occurrence, obviously
Yeah I know what one your referring to, i'm only in season 2 of supernatural but I remember the one from season 1 your thinking of
The Benders Season 1 Ep 15
Bear in mind, UNIT blew up a Silurian base for doing less depraved stuff than what this village was getting up to.
Such a damn creepy ending to such an amazing episode.
People often attack Gwen for having the affair with Owen... but it makes a lot more sense when you consider how traumatised she is by what she saw, and her inability to share anything with Rhys. Torchwood basically sets them all up for being traumatised and isolated.
Owen plays off her vulnerability and Gwen is desperate for someone to talk to. Meanwhile, Jack just sort of lets it happen. He pushes for her to keep her normal life but doesn't give her any way to do that. So the affair happens.
I think the big issue with the whole storyline is it's never really resolved. At some point in season 2 Rhys should have properly found out. Maybe instead of their wedding episode. It should have been a tense, emotional episode where they should have worked through it and come out the other side closer. Not doing that was a disservice to both Gwen and Rhys.
Lets
her telling Rhys and then drugging him and making him forget... sickened me
@@MrTroutl This happens in Season 1 or 2?
I would also point out something...something that is endemic to the entire Torchwood Cardiff crew, and probably also contributes to the amount of sex that goes around the bunch.
They spend day-in, and day-out in close proximity to Jack Harkness...and since he basically lives at Torchwood Cardiff, the place is probably saturated with his libido-boosting pheromones.
Sooo...yeah...that might have also contributed to Gwen taking the option of having an affair with Owen when it came time to weigh her coping options.
@@GetRekt-bw6pu Yeah, I know. I just edited a few things. Believe it or not, I'm actually studying writing. However, I wrote this on my phone, probably late at night... My phone constantly autocorrects to the wrong word or grammar so I'm going to miss the occasional word.
There should be a Torchwood novel or audio drama where Rhys discovers the Gwen/Owen affair properly. It would be such an emotional story.
Sheesh Gwen was so emotional it was kinda insane
Im not a big fan of Chris Chibnall’s doctor who era but i must say his writing for this episode is astonishing!!!
So, I've been a fan of Doctor Who from a very young age and I am now a Young Adult who finally decided to give Torchwood a try, this episode almost made me sick, and I don't think I can stomach anymore of it.
This episode must being paying homage to the film *The Hill have Eyes*
The best doctor who related thing Chibnall has ever done because it’s got literally nothing to do with Sci Fi
Possibly my fav ep this series
Who needs Daleks or CyberMen or what have you when you have humans?
Who new Ser Alliser thorne was that twisted.
One of my absolute favourite episodes of Torchwood. It's impressive that despite being such a brilliant episode, it's not my favourite Chibnall episode in Torchwood (that would be the season 2 finale two-parter).
A man who knows his priorities in life
Owen Teale is a very under rated actor
Love this
I just watched this episode and it freaked me out so bad i literaly locked my door, i’m going to have nightmares about creepy villagers chasing me now, overall agood show though, i don’t think i’ll be going camping anytime soon, i’d still love to come visit wales though, i think it’s a beautiful country and i wish there were more shows set there
Best episode
Love it
For the watch
Seems fitting that one of the most disturbing episodes of Torchwood isn't from monsters or aliens but rather humanity itself
God bless Chris Chibnall
No dislikes that's what I like to see
Human beings are the scariest monster of all
We humans are the only animals to kill out of hate
He’s worse than ser alliser. Atleast he had a better motive.
??
@@GetRekt-bw6pu Game of thrones
To be fair to him, chibnalls writing is great, its the directors who let it down as they tell the actors who to say certain lines a certain way. Although no one ever seems to blame them
The more I’ve rewatched series 11 and 12, the more I’ve come to that realisation (about the directors). A lot of the direction is just plain awful. Jodie is made to look ridiculous at times due to it.
As for Chibnall‘s writing, he doesn’t fit the sci-fi themes. It’s probably why he’s had much better moments with Torchwood, because it’s far more human, and why his better Who episodes were more human driven. Even the Silurian 2-parter really focuses heavily on the human side of things, and you even get that a bit with the Silurians themselves.
I did it for the watch
In my opinion, the show was awful for a myriad of reasons that I don't have enough whiskey to list off, but this was sincerely one of the better scenes in the show. It was based on a sad reality of the human soul.
I'm sorry but if Chibnall can write this what is happening with Doctor Who?
yeah but doctor who can't really handle anything torchwood been through.
For The Watch...
See, Chibnall has great potential
Yeah sorry if she was gonna have an affair it should have been with jack not Owen
I used this line on my parole officer. Don't .
