They have armed officers, but those are specially trained ones and they don't casually walk around everywere. Theres are crazy video of a man with knives, and british police officers taze him and hold him in a door, despite the fact that this guy stabs like a maniac after the officer he is able to hold his arms so the stabs can reach him until the tazer disables him. In every country where police carries guns, this man would have been dead.

      No, only armed officers get firearms training (so those guarding high security locations and people and the very small and basically never used armed response units, which is like one cop car per city), the standard cop never uses a gun so they don't need training, what they are taught instead is deesculation and disarming, at most they are taught how to fire a taser gun.

    • @charlestownsend9280
      @charlestownsend9280 Před 4 lety +14

      @@123lard123 it's more that there is no need for cops to have guns because there are better ways of handling a situration (like deesculation or disarming) and because no one else has a gun so they don't need them. Police in the UK are more about being part of the community and calming things down (which is easier to do when not threatening to kill them, all that does is turn every incident into a shoot out), rather than shooting everyone. Considering how low the death rate is, how low the polices kill count is and how low the police death numbers are, i'd say that it works really well that way.
      As for trust we do have armed police who have to go through a lot of training (so that they don't hit other people instead or shoot someone when they shouldn't), so we do trust them to use guns but only when the gun is actually needed (so very very very rarely, like once or twice every 10 years).

    • @mwu2712

      Shouldn't they be taught basics of firearms. I know they don't shoot, but the idea of making a weapon "safe" (where the safety is, how to unload it etc) should be a necessity if they find a weapon in the course of an investigation.

    • @charlestownsend9280
      @charlestownsend9280 Před 4 lety +8

      @@mwu2712 maybe but guns are so rare in the UK that most cops have whole careers without seeing a single gun (if anyone wonders why people from the UK are so baffled by guns in america, that's why, we just don't have shootings, almost never, one tiny mass shooting every couple of decades and maybe the odd gang violance but due to guns being illegal it's hardsr for them to carry guns, so they don't). I'm guessing that all that would be taught to forensics and those who collect evidence from a crime scene and not for cops, maybe detectives know that (but they shouldn't be moving it anyway as it would be messing with a crime scene) but again it's such a rare thing that it isn't a normal event for our law enforcement.

      @@jwc00789 New York city has stricter gun laws than many others last I checked, and the bbc doesn't cover anywhere near all shootings in the US else we'd be here all day. Overall violent deaths in the US are much higher than here and our government realised 90 years ago that self-defence was no longer a valid reason to own a gun, last I checked most of us don't have most the neighbourhood out to murder us. And not only do the states still get knife crime (although sure, likely lower) but if you really think it's not easier to murder someone with a gun than a knife then you're majorly lacking common sense. But that was clear.
      Oh, and based on some of the shit I see in American movies and tv access to firearms is no guarantee of discipline and training. Evidently, shown by your police too.
